Milk prices have been increased in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir Dairy Farmers Association (JKDFA) has decided to increase the price of milk by Rs 5 per liter. The new rates have come into effect from June 1. The association says that this decision had to be taken in view of the increasing expenses and inflationary pressure on the farmers and suppliers associated with the dairy business.

JKDFA President Sandeep Singh Chib announced this increase on the occasion of World Milk Day. He said that the expenses on animal fodder, medicines, transportation and other necessary expenses are continuously increasing.

In such a situation, it was becoming difficult for dairy farmers to work at the old prices. For this reason, a uniform increase of Rs 5 per liter has been made on all categories of milk.

According to the new rates, full cream milk will now be available at Rs 72 per liter in Jammu city. The price of cow milk has been increased to Rs 62 per liter. Whereas toned milk will be available at the rate of Rs 60 and double toned milk at the rate of Rs 54 per liter.

The association said that milk prices in other areas of Jammu and Kashmir division may vary depending on local conditions and supply system.

Rural and urban areas will be affected

Before this increase in Kashmir Valley, the average price of milk was around Rs 54 per liter. In rural areas, milk is usually sold around Rs 50 per liter, while in cities and big towns its price ranges from Rs 55 to Rs 60 per liter. In such a situation, the new increase is likely to affect consumers in both rural and urban areas.

This increase in milk prices has happened at a time when common people are already facing the brunt of inflation. The prices of fuel, food items, medicines and other essential goods are continuously increasing.

• Full Cream Milk (Gold) was earlier available at Rs 65 per liter, now after the increase in prices it will be available at Rs 67.
• Sudha Shakti milk which was available till now at Rs 57 per liter will now be available at Rs 59 per liter.
• Sudha Cow Milk was till now Rs 54 per litre, which will now be available at Rs 56 per litre.
• Sudha Healthy (Toned) milk which was earlier priced at Rs 52 per liter will now be available at Rs 54 per liter.
• Sudha Smart (Double Toned) will be available at Rs 28 per half litre.

Why was the increase made?
Amul and Mother Dairy were the first to increase the prices of milk products. After which now Sudha Dairy of Bihar has also increased the prices of milk. This decision has been taken due to the increasing cost of production, rising prices of animal feed and distribution expenses. This was also approved by the previous government, but it was not implemented due to the Election Code of Conduct being in force at that time.

He further said that after the new government took charge, the board discussed this issue again. The situation regarding the minister of the department was not clear, so a meeting was held directly with the Chief Minister. After getting approval from the Chief Minister, the final decision to increase the price of milk has been taken.

• Price of Amul Tea Special 1 liter milk increased from Rs 63 to Rs 66.
• Buffalo Milk: Price of 500ML milk increased from Rs 37 to Rs 39.
• Amul gold price increased from Rs 34 to Rs 35
• The price of 500 ml milk of Amul Shakti will increase from Rs 34 to Rs 35.
