IND A vs SL A: Young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi is currently on Sri Lanka tour with India A team. An ODI tri-series is being played here between India A, Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A. India A faced Sri Lanka A in the first match of the tournament played in Dambulla on 9 June, in which the Indian team registered a thrilling victory by 8 runs. Although Vaibhav’s bat did not play much in this match, but he attracted everyone’s attention with his excellent fielding. After being selected in Team India, he took an important catch for the first time.

Amazing in batting as well as fielding

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who was playing in Sri Lanka for India A, was selected in the Indian team on 6 June. Along with the tour of Ireland and England, he has also got a place in the T20 team of the Asian Games. No one ever doubted his batting talent, but questions were raised many times about his fielding, especially his catching ability. During IPL 2026, Mohammad Kaif had said that he had never seen Vaibhav Suryavanshi taking any catch. However, after that statement, Vaibhav took two catches in the IPL and now after getting a place in Team India, he proved that he can turn the match not only with batting but also with fielding by taking an excellent catch in a pressure-packed match against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla.

First catch after selection in Team India

Chasing the target of 277 runs, the opening pair of Niroshan Dickwella and Avishka Fernando looked in great form for Sri Lanka A. Both the batsmen were moving towards a century partnership by adding 93 runs. The pressure on the Indian team was clearly visible. In such difficult times, Ayush Badoni came to bowl and Vaibhav Suryavanshi took a brilliant catch of Avishka Fernando on his ball and changed the course of the match.

Avishka played a sharp shot on the 99th ball of Sri Lanka A’s innings, but Vaibhav showed lightning speed and secured the catch with both hands. This was his first catch after his selection in Team India on 6 June.

In this match, Vaibhav Suryavanshi scored 14 runs in 12 balls. Even though his batting was not very good, he remained dominant on the field because of his brilliant catches. Even outside the field, his popularity was seen in Sri Lanka. Long queues of fans were seen to get pictures clicked with Vaibhav. Compared to other players of India A, there was a different enthusiasm among the spectators to take photos with Vaibhav.
