Political lobist Jason Miller met US President Donald Trump at Washington DC amid tariffs dispute between India and the US. Miller is the same lobist who was appointed by the Government of India to strengthen his diplomatic access to the US administration a few months ago.

Miller shared his picture with Trump from the White House and wrote, “I spent a brilliant week in Washington. I met many friends and the most important moment of the week was to see the President in action.” Even though the official agenda of this meeting has not come out, time is very important. In fact, at present, Indo-US trade relations and tariffs are once again in discussion and the economic strategies of both countries are being closely monitored.

Miller, close to Trump and in controversy

Jason Miller has been close to Trump for a long time and was his leading media spokesperson in the 2016 election. He was to be made a White House Communication Director, but had to retreat due to personal controversies and allegations. He was accused of sexual harassment and controversies related to relationships. Despite this, he remained under Trump’s political realm and was a prominent advisor in both 2020 and 2024 election campaigns. In the year 2020, he founded the SHW Partners LLC and registered as a foreign lobist.

Miller’s contract with the Government of India

According to public documents, Jason Miller’s company Shw Partners LLC was appointed by the Government of India on a one -year contract in April 2025.

Contract amount: $ 1.8 million (about ₹ 15 million)

Monthly fees: $ 1,50,000

Work: Help in strategic counseling and government relations for India with US government, Congress, think tanks, educational institutions and other stakeholders.

Why is this important meeting?

There is a tension between India and America about tariffs at this time. In such a situation, Jason Miller’s meeting with Trump and the Government of India make him a lobist is considered very important from diplomatic point of view.

Amidst the ongoing tariff controversy between India and the US, the Ministry of External Affairs has dismissed some fake news spreading on social media. The fact check unit of the ministry posted on ‘X’ and clarified that India is not reviewing the exempted things and no such plan is being made that any step will be taken in this direction in response to the 25 percent fee levied by Trump.

Reports of review of Indo-US agreements are also wrong
In another post, the fact check unit of the Ministry of External Affairs also termed the report as fake, claiming that India is reviewing its bilateral agreements with the US and considering suspending them if America’s “hostile economic policies” continue.

After 25% tariff of Trump, both countries are trying to trade agreement
According to the report of Hindustan Times, sources said that in response to 25 percent tariffs, both India and America are making serious efforts to create a profitable business agreement with mutual consent. A source said, “We are currently talking through virtual mode and the rest of the issues will be resolved during the US team’s visit to India this month.”

US team will reach New Delhi on August 24
America’s business talks team is coming to New Delhi to discuss the sixth round on August 24. During this time, emphasis will be laid on advancing the ongoing trade talks between the two countries.

Trump imposed 25% tariff on India, resentment over relations with Russia
Last week, US President Donald Trump announced on ‘Truth Social’ and implemented 25 percent tariff on India. This tariff has come under effect since August 1. Along with this, an additional fine has also been imposed, due to which India is said to have purchased oil and military equipment from Russia, while the Ukraine War is still going on.

Trump’s sharp attack on India
In a post, Trump wrote, ‘Remember, even though India is our friend, but we have done very little business with them for years, because their tariffs are the highest in the world and their non-economic trade barriers are the most complex and painful.’ The next day, in another post, Trump attacked India and Russia directly and said that the two countries should ‘sink together with their dead economies’.
