Foreign Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has met Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand. Both the leaders have expressed hope to further strengthen the bilateral partnership. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also posted about this on social media platform X. This meeting of the two leaders took place in Niagara on the sidelines of the G-7.

S. Jaishankar said in a social media post that he congratulated Anita Anand for hosting the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ meeting and appreciated the progress in the implementation of the new Roadmap 2025. He said, ‘We hope to further strengthen our bilateral partnership.’

Anita Anand has also posted on Instagram, in which she said that the two leaders discussed cooperation on trade, energy, security and people-to-people ties. The Ministry of External Affairs said on Tuesday (November 11, 2025), ‘The participation of the External Affairs Minister in the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting reflects India’s continued commitment to work with international partners to address global challenges and strengthen the voice of the Global South at international forums.’

Canada has invited Australia, Brazil, India, Saudi Arabia, Mexico, South Korea, South Africa and Ukraine for the G-7 meeting. Canada had said only last week that the G-7 summit would discuss global economic and security challenges, including maritime security and prosperity, economic resilience, energy security and critical minerals.

Dr. S. Jaishankar’s visit to Canada comes a month after Anita Anand’s visit to India, when both sides unveiled an ambitious roadmap to boost ties in the areas of trade, critical minerals and energy.

In their meeting, the two Foreign Ministers agreed to initiate ministerial discussions on bilateral trade and investment at the earliest, keeping in mind global economic realities and each other’s strategic priorities.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has given a big statement on Saturday (November 1, 2025) regarding relations with India. PM Mark Carney said that Canada is making positive progress in strengthening its relations with India. He also emphasized that Canada is working on building new partnerships abroad amid tariff pressures from the United States.

This comment of PM Mark Carney comes at a time when US President Donald Trump ended all trade talks with Canada last week, saying that Canada’s behavior has been completely unacceptable. At the same time, the Canadian Prime Minister has also talked about reducing dependence on America.

APEC Canadian Prime Minister spoke in South Korea after the summit

Speaking to reporters after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held in South Korea, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said, ‘We are building new partnerships with countries around the world and the best place to do this is the Asia-Pacific region, which accounts for 60 percent of the global economy.’

Talks are continuing with India – Carney

Along with this, he also mentioned the free trade agreement with Indonesia, the ongoing negotiations with Philippines and Thailand and the important turn in relations with China. PM Carney said, ‘We are making progress with India also. I did not meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi directly at the APEC summit, but our Foreign Minister and other ministers are talking to India.

He said, ‘We are working first on the domestic front to increase the strength of our country. We are forming new partnerships abroad so that our dependence on America can be reduced. This is not something that will happen overnight, but we are moving very fast.

The relations between India and Canada have always been based on economic, cultural and safety cooperation, but a statement by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a year ago, made a big rift in these relationships. Trudeau accused India of involvement in the murder of Khalistani Hardeep Singh Nijjar. This statement was a serious diplomatic challenge for India. India described these allegations as completely baseless and absurd.

Canadian intelligence officials Nathali Drin and David Morrison, leaking information to the Washington Post, accused India’s Home Minister Amit Shah of targeting separatists. India had lodged a strong protest on this and the matter became a cause of disbelief in the relationship between the two countries. In this period, the relations between India and Canada became so stressful that business and diplomatic dialogue almost came to a standstill. The rhetoric between the leaders of the two countries worsened the situation.

How did the initiative to improve relationships?

The situation appeared to change in 2025 when Canadian National Security Advisor Nathali Droin and Deputy Foreign Minister David Morison arrived in India. Here he met NSA Ajit Doval of India. This meeting was not just a formal dialogue, but it is considered to be a serious attempt to reduce the tussle in relationships. Security, energy and business were made primary agenda during the meeting. India clearly said that concrete steps should be taken on the extradition of Khalistani extremism and terrorists sitting in Canada. At the same time, Canada also assured to share intelligence information and strengthen anti -terrorism cooperation. In this way, the conversation created a positive atmosphere and raised hopes of improving relationships.

India-Canada relations will improve in future?

This NSA level conversation is being seen as a turning point in the relationship between the two countries. If India and Canada are united on security issues, then business and energy cooperation can also get new pace. India’s big concern is that Canada take strict steps on Khalistani activities and do not give political asylum to the terrorists. At the same time, India is a big economic and strategic partnership for Canada. If this conversation continues in this positive direction even then in the coming years, the relationship between the two countries can return to the old trust again.

The Sikh for Justice has threatened to capture India’s consulate and also forbade Indians to go to that area. However, the Canadian government and the Government of India have not yet issued any official statement.

However, this incident definitely raises the question of how safe the embassy and consulates of any country are in foreign countries. Let’s know how the security of an ambassador of a country is.

How does the embassy security work?

Actually, Embassy is protected through a dual security system. For this, local police and central armed forces take responsibility for the security of Embassy. This responsibility increases further for places with disturbance. The hosts work closely with the security officials of the embassy to maintain the country’s law enforcement agency security and to prevent any threat.

It consists of security personnel who take care of the necessary documents, equipment and safety of the people inside the ambassador. Along with this, advanced surveillance system, metal detector and X-ray machines are used to investigate all the people coming to Embassy. Apart from these regular security checks, the Regional Security Officer of Embassy is trained to detect and deal with security dangers.

Preparation and additional measures for emergency

While the relationship between India and Canada was recently shown to improve, now a new incident has shocked these efforts. In the British Columbia province of Canada, radical Sikh elements have opened a symbolic “embassy” called Republic of Khalistan.

This alleged embassy has been established in a part of Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara located in Surrey. The inauguration of this embassy coincides with the preparations for the ‘Khalistan referendum’ organized by a banned organization called ‘Sikhs for Justice’ (SFJ). Indian security agencies are keeping a close watch on this development.

Impact on India-Canada diplomacy
The dialogue between India and Canada recently may be affected again. During the G7 Summit, the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the new Prime Minister of Canada Mark Karney was considered to be the beginning of the improvement in relationships. But opening the symbolic embassy of Khalistan in Surrey can weaken this effort.

Controversy arose after Nijjar’s death
Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused the Indian government in the murder of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, which was completely rejected by India. However, in recent times, both countries indicated improvement in relationships.

India’s old objection
India has been continuously telling Canada not to allow its land to be used for anti-India activities. Especially India’s concerns about the activities of Khalistani organizations have been for decades. From the Air India bomb blast in 1985, India has warned Canada many times on this issue.

Canadian Intelligence Agency report
Canadian intelligence agency CSIS first admitted in its report in June 2025 that Khalistani, who was living in Canada, has been involved in violent violent activities with political purpose. The report said that no such attack was found in 2024, but Khalistani elements are active towards funding, making plans and carrying out violence on foreign land.

Four arrested in Nijjar murder case
Four people were arrested in May 2024 in the case of Nijjar’s murder and accused of conspiring to murder and murder. This case is still under investigation.

India-canada relations: Canadian top intelligence agency CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) has publicly acknowledged for the first time in its 2024 annual report that Khalistani extremist Canada mainly uses Canada to promote violence in India, raise funds and make plans. It has been claiming that Canada has become a safe haven for pro -Khalistan extremists.

The biggest feature of this report is that Canada has accepted the Khalistan movement in terrorist context for the first time using the word ‘extremism’. This is the first time after the 1985 Air India bomb blast that so many clear words have been used at the government level against Khalistanis. The report includes CBKE (Canada-Based Khalistani Extremists) in PMVE (Politically Motivated Vioilent Extremism) category.

India repeated many times
India has been saying for many years that pro -Khalistani leader like Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was killed in 2023, has been openly involved in anti -India activities in Canada. The Government of Canada has given encouragement and tolerance to such elements under the guise of political freedom and expression. Now that CSIS has officially confirmed Indian concerns, the Indian government can present it as a validity of its diplomatic status.

Pakistan also accused
In this report, not only the Khalistani elements, but also Pakistan is considered responsible for foreign intervention in Canada. Reports of National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentaryians (NSICOP) and Public Inquiry Into Foreign Interference (PIFI) have also held Pakistan responsible for influencing Pakistan’s democratic institutions.

India-Canada Relations
Recently, the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Karney in the G7 Conference (2025, Canada) gave a positive indication towards the re -re -regulation of diplomatic relations. The two leaders have agreed to re -talk about the restoration of the new High Commissioners and the stalled business issues.

India-canada relations: Canadian intelligence agency CSIS (Canadian Security Intelligence Service) has released a report on Wednesday (18 June 2025), in which he has poisoned India, making serious allegations against India. The report said that international repression plays a central role in India’s activities. Indian agents, their proxy and officials in Canada are involved in activities that try to merge Canada policies with the interests of India. This statement has come to light when Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney talked about improving relations with each other just 1 day earlier.

CSIS has included many things in the report. The report claimed that India is trying to suppress in Canada. Especially against those who support Khalistan. He described China as the biggest intelligence threat, but CSIS also took the names of India, Russia, Iran and Pakistan. The Canadian intelligence agency alleged that Indian agents and proxy adopt a strategy to influence the politics of Canada and communities.

The CSIS Public Report 2024 is now live.

We Encourage all canadians to consult it as we work togeether to protect canada’s #NationalSecurity,https://t.co/xrugeqcsxd pic.twitter.com/9mxdh3uya6

India’s response and trend
Although there is no official response from New Delhi after this report, India has a permanent attitude that the pro -Khalistan organizations and rallies in Canada are against India’s sovereignty. Canada gives an open exemption to Sikh separatists, causing frequent stress in bilateral relations.

Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar murdered
Tensionful relations between India and Canada have been formed since the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Hardeep Singh Nijjar was murdered in Canada on 18 June 2023. Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau blamed the Government of India for the murder. India dismissed these allegations outright and accused Canada of promoting Khalistani activities. After this incident, the two countries expelled each other’s top diplomats and the ties were badly affected.

G7 Summit 2025: The first formal meeting was held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the new Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney at the G7 conference held in Canada, Canada. During this time, the two leaders agreed to the restoration of the High Commissioners in the capitals. He called mutual cooperation very important. The conversation promised cooperation on issues like international terrorism and foreign repression. Modi described the meeting as very important, while Carney called it respectable. This meeting proved the first strong step towards ending diplomatic deadlock and restoration of confidence.

The meeting with the PM of India and Canada has agreed to work on huge possibilities in the fields of mutual technology, education, agriculture and energy security. Carney himself has expressed the possibility of cooperation in the AI and energy sector. Apart from this, clear and strong diplomatic understanding on sensitive issues like Khalistan can prove to be helpful in ensuring safety of the field. Let us know that Mark Carney invites Modi to G7 and ignoring the objection of Khalistan supporters make it clear that the new government is seeing India as a strategic partner.

PM Mark Carney and Modi’s statement
During the meeting with Carney, PM Modi said that relations between India and Canada are very important in many ways. Many Canadian companies have investment in India. The relations between India and Canada are dedicated to democratic values. For this, we have to strengthen democracy and humanity. At the same time, the Canadian PM said that it is a great respect for Prime Minister Modi to host in G7. I think India is coming in G7 since 2018 and this is a proof of the importance of your country, your leadership and the importance of those issues. Together we want to deal with energy security, energy change, AI Future International Support and Fight against Terrorism and other issues. We can work together, it is a great respect for me to be here.

Relationship between India-Canada in recent times
Relations between India and Canada have not been normal in recent times. Especially on 18 September 2023, when the then Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau accused India of involvement in the murder of pro -Khalistan Hardeep Singh Nijjar, tension between the two countries reached the peak. Due to this dispute, India expelled six Canadian officials. Canada also abolished the diplomatic exemption of officers including the Indian High Commissioner. Until October 2024, no High Commissioner was deployed in both countries. This development created an atmosphere of instability and mistrust in the decades -old relationship.

India-canada relations: Jasdeep Singh, founder of Sikhs for America, openly expressed his opinion on the Khalistan movement and the increasing tension between India-Canada. His statement came when the doors of new possibilities are opened in Canada with the change of power.

Jasdeep Singh believes that the tenure of Justin Trudeau proved to be fertile land for the Khalistani influence, but now the situation is about to change the situation under the leadership of Prime Minister Mark Karney. He described Trudeau as a weak Prime Minister, whose policies were inspired by the anti -India agenda. He said that I think the Khalistani effect will no longer be there. The percentage of Khalistani population is very small and most Sikhs love India and Punjab.

Attack on Khalistani movement

He did not call Khalistan supporters Sikhs because according to him these people do not work on the principles of Sikhism. This is an important religious and social approach as it makes it clear that the Khalistani movement does not support the Sikh community as is promoted many times. He paid special attention to matters such as human trafficking in the US and Canada, promises of false political refuge, and misuse of youth. JC said that the so -called Khalistani leaders like Pannu are using false promises to the youth coming from Danki route.

PM Modi’s visit to Canada
Jessie welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to be invited to the G7 Summit on behalf of Canada and called it a new beginning for India-Canada relations. This is the right decision. India is the fourth largest economy. It was a mistake to ignore him. This statement indicates a new era in diplomatic relations between two countries. The time has come to leave behind the kind of stressful relations that were formed during the Trudeau government.

G7 conference participation
PM Modi will be on an official visit to Canada on 16-17 June. This tour will become a platform for reconstruction of India-Canada relations. The cooperation of Sikh diaspora will strengthen this new chapter. JC claimed that a network of illegal activities is spread under the Khalistani movement in the US, which is now being closed. Jessie believes that the support to these radical elements will end under the new American and Canadian leadership. This will also have a positive impact on the immigrant policy in North America.

Message of solidarity for Indians living outside India
In the last part of the article, Jessie advised Indians settled abroad to remain united. He described religious unity and love for India as the identity of Indian migrants. Hindus are our brothers, we respect all religions. We should remain united, not a victim of these divisive tricks.
