POK i.e. Pakistan Occupied Kashmir is not just a territory but a sensitive issue flowing in the veins of Asian politics. For years this region has been stuck between the strategies of India, Pakistan and China. Now imagine, if under any circumstances India takes back PoK, what will change? Will this change just one line of the map or will the balance of power of entire Asia be shaken? Its effects will go far.

Why is the issue of PoK so important?

POK is the area which has been occupied by Pakistan since 1947-48, whereas it is an integral part of India. This area is very strategically sensitive because many important mountain passes, rivers and borders are connected here. Apart from this, this region plays an important role in the security system of South Asia.

What will change if India takes back PoK?

If India reclaims PoK, it will not be just a matter of India-Pakistan border. This will have a direct impact on the geopolitics of Asia. First of all, Pakistan’s strategic position will be weakened, because a large and sensitive area will be lost. This can also have a deep impact on its internal politics and the situation of the army.

Why will China get the first big blow?

A large part of PoK falls near Gilgit-Baltistan, which is considered an important part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor or CPEC. CPAC is the backbone of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. If India has control over this area, then questions may arise on the security and future of CPAC. This may affect China’s investment strategy and its access to West Asia.

Why will it be a big shock for Pakistan?

Losing PoK would not only be a loss of land for Pakistan, but it would also be a major political and psychological blow. The issue of Kashmir has always been at the center of Pakistan’s politics. In such a situation, removing control over PoK can create huge pressure for the government, army and general public.

Possible role of America and Europe

America and European countries will definitely appeal for peace and restraint on any such major change. His emphasis will be on maintaining stability in the region. However, India is seen as a responsible regional power, so Western countries will try to balance the situation and not lead to direct confrontation.

Reaction from the Middle East and other Asian countries

Many countries of the Middle East have strong economic and strategic relations with India. Their economy and energy cooperation is linked to India. In such a situation, they can give a balanced response instead of adopting a very aggressive stance on this issue. Other countries of South Asia will also watch the situation carefully.

Impact on security and terrorism

If PoK comes under India’s control, the structure of cross-border terrorism may be affected. This will be considered a big change in terms of India’s internal security. However, there will also be a possibility of increasing regional tension, which will need to be handled through diplomacy.

Possible changes in Asia’s geopolitics

Overall, changing the status of PoK will affect the balance of power in Asia. India’s role and influence may increase, China and Pakistan’s strategies may have to be rethought, and global powers will start looking at the region more seriously.

India-China Relations: On India’s 77th Republic Day, Chinese President Xi Jinping has given a positive and friendly message regarding India-China relations. He said that India and China are not only good neighbors but also friends and partners. According to Xi Jinping, strong relations between the two countries are necessary for peace and prosperity not only in Asia but in the entire world.

According to China’s official news agency Xinhua, President Xi Jinping also wished President Draupadi Murmu on Republic Day. He said that mutual cooperation between big countries like India and China helps in maintaining global stability and strengthens the way to move the world forward.

Jinping said this

Xi Jinping said that China has always believed that it is in the interest of both the countries for India and China to move together as good neighbours, friends and partners. Explaining in simple words, he said that the relationship between India and China should be like a dragon and an elephant dancing together, that is, both should move forward together.

The Chinese President also expressed hope that in the coming time, both the countries will increase mutual dialogue, connect more with each other and work together. He also said that if both the countries understand and resolve each other’s concerns, then India-China relations can become stronger, balanced and stable.

Relations deteriorated after the 2020 clash

It is noteworthy that in the year 2020, there was tension in India-China relations after the death of 20 Indian and four Chinese soldiers in the skirmish on the Line of Actual Control (LAC). After this, both the countries had increased military deployment on the Himalayan border. However, since last year, efforts to bring relations back on track through high-level bilateral meetings and visits between the two countries have intensified. This statement of Xi Jinping is considered important in this context.

China has been enraged by the recent report of the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) regarding India-China relations. The report said that China wants to take advantage of the easing of tensions along the LAC with India to stabilize bilateral relations and prevent US-India relations from strengthening further.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said in a press briefing on Thursday (December 25) that China opposes the Pentagon’s comments regarding its national defense policy. He also clarified that China views its relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective. When Lian was asked whether China would try to stall US-India relations by taking advantage of the reduced tension with India in the disputed border areas? On this he said that China emphasizes on developing relations with India and not on targeting any third country.

Chinese Foreign Ministry retaliated
According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, China is ready to strengthen communication with India, enhance mutual trust and move bilateral relations towards stable, healthy and sustainable development. Let us tell you that this statement of China has come in the context of Pentagon’s ‘Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China’ report, in which it has been said that after the tension on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) has reduced, China is trying to stabilize relations with India, so that the deepening of the strategic alliance between India and America can be prevented.

In the Pentagon report, Arunachal Pradesh has been described as important as China’s core interests (Taiwan and the South Sea). Apart from this, China’s growing military relations with Pakistan have also been mentioned.

How are India-China relations now?
Border tensions between India and China have decreased in recent months. After the meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in October 2024, the two countries started high-level talks on border management. Steps like direct flights, visa facility and Kailash Mansarovar Yatra have been taken.

Ami Bera, member of the US House of Representatives, has made an important comment regarding the relations between India and America. He was speaking at the hearing of the Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives on South and Central Asia. During this, he openly expressed his views on India’s foreign policy, global role, H-1B visa issues, India’s proximity with Russia and balanced coexistence with China.

Ami Bera told that recently a senior member had a joint photo of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Some members objected to this picture, but according to Bera, this picture reflects India’s long-term strategy. He said that India will have to co-exist with China to some extent due to its geographical and strategic environment, but its real priorities and long-term interests clearly lie with the Western countries. According to him, India understands that America plays an important role in its economic and technological progress.

Concern over H-1B visa fees
Ami Bera also spoke on an important issue related to the American immigration system. He said that the fee of up to $100,000 on H-1B visa puts a huge burden on the companies and American companies also suffer losses due to this. According to him, President Trump has also understood that stopping technical talent from coming to America is not in the interest of the country. Bera also expressed the hope that in future such a visa system can be created so that Indian scientists and engineers can go to America without complications and American experts can visit India. He said that these are the people who do not have any security concerns and this would be an ideal step for technical cooperation between the two countries.

America’s concern on Russia-India relations

India’s close relations with Russia often become a topic of discussion in America. Ami Bera gave his clear opinion on this also. He acknowledged that US policymakers have some concerns about India’s close ties with Russia, but he also acknowledged that these ties stem from India’s historical and strategic circumstances. He said that India’s dialogue with Russia is important even today and it is this unique position that gives India a unique role on the global stage. Bera also added that President Biden is making genuine efforts to end the Ukraine conflict and India can play a mediator or bridge role in this process.

Preparation to bring Russia into the mainstream after Ukraine war

Ami Bera indicated that after the end of the Ukraine conflict, the US and its allies will have to think together about how to re-integrate Russia into the global mainstream. He acknowledged that India’s role could be very important in this goal, because India maintains dialogue with both Russia and the West.

China has shown a positive attitude towards the recent visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to India, saying that strong trilateral relations between India, China and Russia are important not only for regional but also global stability and peace. This statement of China has come at a time when relations between Russia and China are already strong and India-China relations are moving towards normalization.

‘India-China-Russia are important pillars of the Global South’- Ministry of External Affairs
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said in a press briefing that China, India and Russia are emerging economies and important voices of the Global South. He said that strong and lasting cooperation between these three countries will not only be beneficial for them but will also contribute to global security, development and prosperity. Guo said, ‘Keeping trilateral cooperation strong is in the interest of all countries and will prove beneficial for stability in Asia and the entire world.’

Towards improvement in India-China relations
China has also given positive signals on India-China relations, which have cooled down since the 2020 tension in Eastern Ladakh. Guo Jiakun said that Beijing is committed to making relations with India natural, stable and strong with a long-term perspective. He said, ‘We are ready to handle these relations with India from a strategic and long-term perspective, so that the people of both the countries can get real benefits.’

China’s reaction to Putin’s statement
Beijing was keeping an eye on the deepening Russia-India relations. In an interview given before his visit to India, Putin had described India and China as Russia’s closest friends and expressed confidence that both the countries can resolve their disputes on their own. Responding to this statement, China said that it is ready to pursue strong bilateral cooperation with both Russia and India. China’s state media gave prominence to these statements of Putin, in which he also rejected American criticism on India buying oil from Russia.

Many agreements during Putin’s visit to India
President Vladimir Putin came on an official visit to India on 4-5 December. This was his first visit to India after 2021. During this period, many important agreements related to trade, defence, energy and investment were signed. Both countries aimed to increase bilateral trade to $100 billion by 2030 and approved a long-term economic cooperation program.

China Online Visa Application System: After the strain in relations between India and China about five years ago, both the countries are now trying to move forward, leaving behind the old sourness. In this sequence, after the restoration of tourist visa for Chinese citizens, the Chinese Embassy in India has made another important announcement. Chinese Ambassador posted in India, Xu Feihong, said on Monday that the online visa system is being started by the Chinese Embassy in India this month.

china online visa application

This online visa application system will be officially launched on December 22, just before the New Year. Posting on social media platform X, the ambassador said that applicants will have to fill the online form and upload the required documents under this system. The designated website for this is: visaforchina.cn/DEL3_EN/qianzh.

Along with this announcement, the address and contact information of the Chinese Visa Application Service Centre, New Delhi has also been shared. Its address is – Concourse Floor, Shivaji Stadium Metro Station, Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Connaught Place, New Delhi-110001.

It is noteworthy that after the violent clash between the soldiers of the two countries in Galwan Valley in June 2020, tourist visas for Chinese citizens were banned. This incident had taken the relations between India and China to the lowest level.

However, after this, through several rounds of diplomatic talks and commander level meetings, both the countries took steps towards reducing tension. Due to continuous talks and agreements, the situation has gradually become normal and now both the neighboring countries are moving forward and trying to strengthen their mutual relations again.

India has expressed strong objection to China’s attitude towards the detention of an Indian woman from Arunachal Pradesh during transit at Shanghai Pudong Airport. This incident has come to light at a time when both the countries are making efforts towards normalizing their strained relations.

What is the matter?

According to government sources, the woman was stopped during a transit halt at Shanghai Pudong Airport and her Indian passport was declared ‘invalid’. India lodged its strong protest on this. The Indian Consulate in Shanghai has also intervened and helped the woman.

India has clearly told China that the woman was detained without any valid basis. Also reiterated that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India and the people here have full right to travel on Indian passport. India described China’s action as a violation of international civil aviation rules, especially the Chicago and Montreal Conventions.

The woman was stopped for about 18 hours

The woman, Pema Wangjom Thongdok, said that while traveling from London to Japan on November 21, she was stopped for about 18 hours in Shanghai transit, interrogated and repeatedly subjected to insulting behavior. Chinese immigration officials declared his passport invalid because Arunachal Pradesh was written as his birthplace. He was reportedly told that Arunachal Pradesh was part of China and was even advised to apply for a Chinese passport.

According to the passenger, his passport was confiscated, he was stopped from onward flights despite having a valid Japanese visa, and he was pressured to buy a new ticket. The woman also suffered financial loss due to this.

What did India say?

On this matter, India said that this action of China is an unnecessary hindrance in the ongoing efforts towards stabilizing bilateral relations. India described the incident as an insult to its sovereignty and sought accountability, compensation and an assurance from China that such behavior would not be repeated with travelers from Arunachal in future. At the same time, after the intervention of the Indian Consulate, the woman got permission to travel further late in the night.

India Resumes Tourist Visa For Chinese Citizens: The US side is said to be close to agreeing on a trade deal. It is expected that this will reduce the tariff rates, which will provide great relief to Indian exporters and they will be able to maintain competition in the American market. Meanwhile, India has also emphasized on strengthening relations with other countries as an alternative to America. Especially after the Doklam dispute, steps are being taken towards reducing the bitterness and normalizing relations with China.

Opened tourism doors for China

India has recently opened its tourism doors for Chinese tourists. Now Chinese citizens will be able to apply for tourist visa to India through Indian missions and consulates across the world. In July this year, India resumed issuing tourist visas for Chinese citizens. Earlier in May 2020, this facility was suspended after the military standoff started on the LAC in eastern Ladakh.

News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that earlier this week, the process of issuing tourist visas to Chinese citizens was restarted in Indian embassies and consulates around the world. After this, applications started being received in the Indian Embassy in Beijing and the Consulates of Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

What will be the impact on relationships?

In the last few months, India and China have agreed on several people-centric steps to stabilize relations and bring them back on track. These include starting the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, resuming direct flights, celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations and easing visa facilities. Direct flights between the two countries have also resumed in October.

Before the Chanakya Defense Dialogue to be held in the presence of the country’s top military commanders and strategic experts, General Dwivedi has clearly said that India is ready for a long fight under any circumstances and whether the enemy is Pakistan or its supported terrorists, the army has the ability to give a befitting reply to every threat.

General Dwivedi said that no matter how much Pakistan promotes terrorism secretly behind the scenes, the Indian Army keeps an eye on its every move. He said that there has been a huge decline in terrorism in Kashmir in the last five years and 61% of the killed terrorists were Pakistanis, which proves that the conspiracy to send terror from across the border is continuing. According to him, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir is changing rapidly and today the youth there are seeing a future with India.

Referring to Operation Sindoor, he said, “This was just a trailer. If needed, Pakistan will be taught how a responsible country behaves with its neighbour.” He also made it clear that India is not afraid of any kind of nuclear blackmail and whether the war lasts for four months or four years, the Indian Army is ready in any situation.

This big thing was said in the Red Fort car blast case

Referring to the blast at the Red Fort, the Army Chief said that deterrence is working. Even if any blank letter comes from the terrorists, the army will find out where it has come from.

What did General Dwivedi say on India’s relations with China?

On relations with China, he expressed hope that after the reduction in tension in Eastern Ladakh, both the countries are moving towards normalcy. He said that due to increased dialogue between the political leadership, the ground situation has improved rapidly. He said, “When diplomacy and political direction come together, defense diplomacy becomes smart power.”

Said this on Manipur violence

General Dwivedi also gave his reaction on Manipur violence. He said that Manipur is like heaven for him and the situation is becoming normal after the imposition of President’s rule there. He expressed hope that if the communities there resolve their mutual differences, the situation will improve.

Similarly, referring to the 43,000 refugees who came from Myanmar, he said that India is trying to send them back and if any of them is found involved in terrorist activities, strict action will be taken.

Direct flights between India and China are starting again from today. IndiGo flight 6E1703 will take off for Guangzhou from Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at 10 pm on 26th October. At the same time, Delhi-Guangzhou route will also be started from November 9. This step marks the formal return of air connectivity between the two countries after five years. This flight tonight is not only a journey in the sky, but also a sign of a new diplomatic beginning, where relations broken after Galwan now seem to be returning on the runway.

During his meeting with President Xi Jinping in Tianjin on August 31, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said that the resumption of direct flights is under consideration. After this, India turned the pages of diplomacy in such a way that now the direct flight is towards China. After the Galwan Valley clash in June 2020, relations between the two countries reached their lowest level since the 1962 war. After several rounds of military and diplomatic talks, both sides withdrew troops from many disputed areas of LAC.

The tension between the two countries had increased a lot. Then in October 2023, an agreement was reached on the last disputed points like Depsang and Demchok. Shortly after this, many decisions were taken to improve relations in the Modi-Xi talks in Kazan. In recent months, there were steps in the process of normalizing relations such as the resumption of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Now the resumption of direct flights is being considered a major link in this process.

Who will benefit from direct flights?

The commencement of India-China flights will provide relief to passengers, businessmen and students. Business delegations will get direct routes. Indian students going to China will save both time and money. Apart from this, there will be convenience in medical and religious journeys (Kailash Mansarovar). Because of this, there is hope of increase in import-export. The aviation sector estimates that if positive response is received, flights to various cities of China can also be started from Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai in the coming months.
