Rajnath Singh on Trump Tariff: There is a discussion worldwide about the 50 percent tariff imposed on India by US President Donald Trump. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has given a big statement amidst Trump’s tariff threats. He has said that there is no permanent friend or enemy.

Rajnath Singh said in NDTV Defense Summit 2025 that India will have to keep its national interests paramount under changing global conditions. He further said that today’s world is changing rapidly and new challenges are coming out every day. The Defense Minister said, “Whether it is an epidemic, terrorism or regional conflict, this century has proved to be the most unstable and challenging ever.”

Self -reliance is no longer an option, required: Rajnath

Emphasizing self -reliance, the Defense Minister said, ‘Today self -reliance has become not just a benefit but a need. Earlier it was considered a privilege, now it is mandatory for our existence and progress. He further said that India does not consider anyone enemies, but the interests of farmers and entrepreneurs are the most important.

The Defense Minister said that the changing land politics has made it clear that external dependence in the defense sector is no longer an option. He said that India’s defense exports in 2014 were less than ₹ 700 crore, whereas today it has reached about ₹ 24,000 crore. This means that India is now becoming not only buyers, but also defense producers and exporters.

Accurate operation with indigenous equipment: Defense minister

Emphasizing the ability of the army, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said, “Our forces made accurate attacks on goals with indigenous equipment, which shows that foresight, long preparations and coordination are mandatory for the success of a mission.”

Rajnath Singh, citing Operation Sindoor, said that it was not only a fight for a few days, but a long history of years of strategic preparations and defense preparations behind it. He said, ‘Just like a player wins in a few seconds in the race, but it is behind months and years of hard work, similarly our forces took effective action on the goals selected with years of preparation, hard work and indigenous equipment.’

Drdo bangalore lab: After Operation Sindoor in 2025, India has given top priority to self -reliance in its defense sector. The central government made it clear that India will not only make weapons for itself, but will also sell them worldwide. The recent DRDO Bengaluru lab tour of Dr. PK Mishra, Principal Secretary, Prime Minister Narendra Modi indicates both seriousness and boom in this direction. This lab mainly works on radar and electronic warfare technology.

The central government has so far removed more than 400 weapons and equipment from the import list. It simply means that now they will be made in India and will be used by the army. The major projects that came out after Dr. Mishra’s visit are going to take India’s defense policy to a new height.

Project Kusha is a very important project for India. This system can intercept ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, fighter jets and drones in the range of 150 to 400 km. DRDO is developing it in India with capabilities like S-400. Its operation is expected to start by 2028.

Rudram ‑2 and Rudram ‑3 missiles will target enemy radar, air defense system and communication centers. The range of Rudram ‑2 will be 250-300 km and Rudram ‑3 range will be more than 550 km.

India’s new strength in electronic warfare
The Claws laser system will be India’s first Directed Energy Weapon system. Its purpose is to eliminate dangers like drones, micro missiles, and mortar in the air itself.

DRDO stuck projects and their challenges
Technical or administrative screws are still stuck in some projects in India. It includes many types of things, which are as follows.

• GTX‑35 Cauvery Engine: The engine for AMCA is currently undergoing talks with the French Safran company.
• Aesar radar ‘Uttam’: The production capacity is still stuck on 24 units/year.
• Light Tank Zorawar: Cost is increasing due to engine import dependence.
• AI based tank: There is a delay in sensor-fusion software.

During the financial year 2024-25, the defense export of the private sector stood at Rs 15,233 crore, while the Defense PSU has exported a record of Rs 8,389 crore. There has been a huge increase of about 42.85 percent in exports only in Defense Publis Sector Undertagings, which shows the increasing demand for Indian weapons in the world.

Increased dominance in defense sector

Under the self -sufficient Bharat Abhiyan, the government is continuously emphasizing on the production of indigenous weapons in defense defense. India aims to increase the defense exports up to Rs 50 thousand crore by 2029. The weapons that India exports are- Akash, BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, Pinaka Rock. Along with this, 9 Vajra, BOT, Dornier 228 fighter aircraft and light fighter aircraft Tejas have also been well liked by the world.
