In his address from the Red Fort on the occasion of 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the need to develop indigenous fighter jet engines in India. Describing it as a big step towards self -sufficiency in the defense sector, he said that India would have to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and intensify its efforts in defense construction. The Prime Minister called upon the young scientists, engineers and all government departments of the country that the engine should also be completely indigenous for India’s ‘Made in India’ fighter jets.

PM Modi said that the sweat and soil of the citizens of India strengthen India’s self -sufficiency. He appealed to small traders to install indigenous goods boards at shops and give priority to the products made in the country. He said, “We will use it strongly, not in indigenous compulsion. This should be our mantra.”

Technical self -sufficiency from IT to EV
The Prime Minister said that in today’s IT era, the strength and cyber security of data is very important. He emphasized the need to develop technologies like operating system, cyber security and artificial intelligence in India. Along with this, while talking about the upcoming electric vehicle era, he said that everything required for EV batteries, solar panels and EV infrastructure should be made in India. He believes that the youth of the country can play a leading role in innovation and production in all these areas.

India construction of 24 LCA in a year
Nashik, which was still known for fighter jet assembly like MiG and Sukhoi. He is now going to be a new identity of India’s self -reliant defense production. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has started its third light Combat Aircraft (LCA) production line here. This production line is the first LCA construction facility outside Bangalore, which is a strategic point of great important step. Bengaluru already has two LCA production lines, whose joint annual capacity is 16 aircraft. Now with an additional 8 annual aircraft capacity of Nashik, India will be able to build a total of 24 LCA a year.

India defense production: The country’s defense sector is moving fast. India’s defense production has reached a record high level of Rs 1,50,590 crore in the business year 2024-25. This is 18 percent more than a total production of Rs 1.27 lakh crore a year ago. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh gave this information on Saturday. He said that since 2019-20, there has been a rise of 90 percent in production. During that time defense production was Rs 79,071 crore.

Defense Minister gave him credit for success

The Defense Minister wrote on its official X account, “The annual defense production in FY 2024-25 has increased to the high level of Rs 1,50,590 crore so far.”

He further wrote, “These figures reflect a strong growth of 18 percent against the production of Rs 1.27 lakh crore in the previous financial year and the amazing growth of 90 percent since 2019-20, when the figure was Rs 79,071 crore.”

He credited this success to the Department of Defense Production, Defense sector government companies and private companies. The Defense Minister termed the collective efforts of all these as ‘historical achievements’.

‘Operation Sindoor’ showed India’s strength in defense

In another development, Sameer Kamat, head of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), praised the success of India’s military campaign, ‘Operation Sindoor’. During this time it was found out how far India is in the defense sector, how advanced this technician is and how much its strategic foresight is.

In response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, India targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan in this military campaign, which started on May 7, 2025. He said that this operation got support from the technology used in the defense sector.

India defense sector: India’s defense sector is moving fast. In this sequence, on Thursday, the Defense Acquisition Council under the chairmanship of Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has approved 10 big defense deals worth about Rs 1.05 lakh crore. The biggest thing of this decision is that this entire purchase is going to be held under the ‘Buy Indian IDDM’ category so that defense manufacturing will be promoted in the country.

All things will be ready in the country

Let us know that all these weapons and systems will be ready in India under indigenly designed, developed and manufactured. With this, the entire 1.05 lakh crore rupees will not be spent in foreign companies and will be invested in government and private companies of India, which will develop the country itself.

What is coming for India forces?

The Ministry of Defense says that under this Maha-Deal, the Indian Army will get armored recovery vehicle, electronic warfare system, common inventory management system and surface-to-air missiles. Apart from this, DAC has also approved the purchase of moor mines, mine counter major vessels, super rapid gun mounts and submersible autonomous vessels for the Navy. This will reduce threats for Navy and business ships and strengthen their security.

Defense sector experture: The Swedish think tank Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said on 28 April that India has spent about nine times more money on defense in 2024 than Pakistan. The disclosure from SIPRI’s data shows that India is at number five in the world in terms of spending on the defense sector.

India and Pakistan spent so much on defense

In the year 2024, India’s expenditure in the defense sector increased by 1.6 percent, which stood at $ 86.1 billion. While Pakistan spent only $ 10.2 billion during this period. In fact, during the increasing tension between the two countries armed with heavy weapons after the terrorist incident in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April, it was found out which country has invested more money to strengthen the defense sector.

5 countries that spend the most on defense

The report shows that the US, China, Russia, Germany and India, among the countries spent on the world, have a total amount of US $ 1,635 billion. He has a 60 percent stake in the total global military expenditure.

Significantly, China’s expenditure on the army has increased by 7.0 percent to an estimated 314 billion US $. “Trends in World Military Expenditure 2024 with this study, it was told that China now holds a 50 percent share of total expenditure on the army in Asia and Oceania.

Russia shed money like water on defense

At the same time, Europe, including Russia, has also increased by 17 percent to US $ 693 billion. According to SIPRI estimated, in 2024, Russia spent around US $ 149 billion on the army, which is 38 percent higher than last year and doubles the figures recorded in 2015. This is equal to 7.1 percent of Total GDP of Russia and 19 percent of the total expenditure of the government. In 2024, Ukraine’s military budget has also seen a 2.9 percent jump, a total of 64.7 billion dollars, which is 43 % of Russia’s military expenses. It is 34 percent of GDP here.

Indian Army Prachand Helicopters Lch: Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has received an order to prepare 156 light fighter helicopters (LCH) for the Indian Army and Air Force. On security, the Cabinet Committee has approved this deal of Rs 62,500 crore. Now, to complete this work, Hal is planning to hand over work to private companies like Locen and Toubro and WAM Technology.

Ever since this defense deal has been done, there has been a stir in the defense sector because HAL will also join hands with private companies to complete this project. If sources are to be believed, HAL is planning to give work of about 25 thousand crore rupees to private companies. Actually, HAL wants to promote defense production by including private companies in the defense sector. Tenders will be issued soon for private companies regarding this.

62,500 crore has a defense deal

The public sector company HAL wants to complete this project just like LCA. In this project too, HAL gave different parts of the helicopter to private companies like fuselage and wings. Now the defense deal of 62,500 crore has been done, about 40 percent of the work will also be given to the private sectors.

HAL has orders worth about 2 lakh crores

HAL is the largest aerospace company in the country. It has orders worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore and is expected to get orders worth more than Rs 70,000 crore in the near future. By including private companies in this, defense production will increase and work will be quickly.

Eastern Ladakh and Siachen will be posted in glaciers.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited has designed these light fighter helicopters for campaigns in height areas. This is the only attacker helicopter, which is capable of flying and landing up to a height of up to five thousand meters, or up to about five thousand meters. These LCH are appropriate to deploy in challenging areas like Siachen Glacier and Eastern Ladakh. These helicopters are equipped with advanced weapons. These include air -to -air and air -to -ground missiles, rockets and turret guns. These LCH are capable of dealing effectively with enemy tanks, bunkers and air threats. Apart from this, they can also destroy air defense system.

HAL has delivered the army 15 LCH

The deal includes 90 helicopters for the Indian Army and 66 for the Indian Air Force (IAF), leading the IAF joint purchase effort. The Indian Army is dealing with HAL for this under ‘Make in India’, which aims to reduce dependence on foreign military supply and increase indigenous defense production capabilities. HAL has already delivered 15 LCH to the Indian Army.
