Earthquake in Afghanistan: Eastern Afghanistan caused a 6.0 magnitude earthquake, killing at least 812 people and injuring 2,817. Relief work is going on fast. This information has been given by government spokesperson Jabihullah Mujahid. According to the Taliban official, it is the deadliest earthquake of the last decade. The affected areas require immediate hospitals, shelters, food and clean water.

The intensity of the earthquake in Afghanistan measured 6.0 on the Richter scale. According to the US Geological Survey, the earthquake center was 27 km away and at a depth of eight kilometers. The country is located on many seismic fault lines, causing more danger of earthquake and landslides to it.

India came forward to help

Foreign Minister of India Dr. S. Jaishankar today spoke to Afghan Foreign Minister Maulvi Aamir Khan Muttki and expressed his condolences on the loss of life in Afghanistan. Dr. Jaishankar told on social media that India has sent tents for a thousand families in Kabul today. He said that the Indian mission has brought 15 tonnes of relief material from Kabul to Kunar district. The minister also assured that more relief materials will be sent from India from tomorrow. Dr. Jaishankar prayed for the early recovery of the injured people and said that India stands with Afghanistan in this difficult time.

Relief work and challenges
Soon after the earthquake, the rescue team is engaged in relief work. Relief work is being interrupted due to closure and landslides in remote mountainous areas. The health centers and hospitals of the affected areas are under heavy pressure. Many people are not able to stay in their homes due to security concern and are forced to sleep in the open.

Joy Singhal of the International Red Cross and Red Crisant Society told Al Jazira that her teams immediately started relief work in the affected communities. However, many remote hills and low -populated areas have not yet been helped. The number of tents is also not enough and it is becoming difficult to reach the landslide area. Afghanistan has been sensitive to earthquakes in eastern and western parts. Last year, more than 1,000 people died in the earthquake in the western part. On 7 October 2023, there was a 6.3 magnitude earthquake in the country.

The C-130J aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) flew from Hindon Air Force Station and reached Myanmar with relief material. This aid package includes tents, sleeping bags, blankets, food prepared food, water purifier, hygiene kit, solar lamps, generator sets and essential medicines such as paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, gloves and straps. India has always been ready to help neighboring countries during natural disasters and this time it has also played its responsibility.

According to the National Center for Sisamology (NCS), on Friday (March 28) at 11:50 pm, Myanmar caused a 7.2 magnitude earthquake which caused panic in the entire area. The center of this earthquake was at a depth of 10 km from the ground, which increased the chances of coming out of the afterchox. A few minutes later Indian time, another earthquake of 6.4 magnitude occurred, which further increased the damage.

Shocks also felt in Thailand, people came out of their homes

The tremors of this powerful earthquake were not limited to Myanmar only but were also felt in many other areas including Bangkok in Thailand. According to eyewitnesses and local media reports, many buildings started shaking in Bangkok due to earthquake tremors, due to which people immediately came out of homes and offices. In the viral video on social media, it was seen that the water of the swimming pool came out like waves and in some places small buildings were damaged. This earthquake has created an atmosphere of fear in the whole of Southeast Asia.

Earthquake in Myanmar havoc

This earthquake caused huge havoc in Myanmar. Several buildings collapsed due to earthquake in several cities including the capital NAPEDO and Mandalay. A 30 -storey skyscraper under construction in Chaturchak district fell completely in which 43 laborers were trapped. According to the report of The Nation News, rescue teams have been deployed to save the workers working in this building. In a video, a bridge on the Iravadi river of Myanmar is seen collapsing due to the tremors of earthquake, which has completely stalled the traffic.

Prime Minister Modi expressed concern

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over this devastating earthquake and said that India will provide all possible help to Myanmar and Thailand. He tweeted on the social media platform X and said, ‘I am concerned about the situation caused by the horrific earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. I pray for the safety and goodness of all the people there. India is ready for all possible help in this difficult time. India has already sent relief during natural disaster in Nepal, Türkiye and other countries and this time too it has proved its friendship and sensitivity.

Relief and rescue operations continue

Relief and rescue operations are going on fast after this earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. Local administration and international agencies are engaged in assessing the damage. Disaster management teams are engaged in removing people trapped in the debris and providing treatment to the injured.
