Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a two-day visit to Israel on 25 and 26 February. In this meeting between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Prime Minister Modi, the progress made in the strategic partnership between the two countries will be reviewed. Apart from this, cooperation in different areas including defence, security, agriculture, trade and economy will be discussed.

PM Modi visits Israel after 9 years

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Israel after almost 9 years. He will leave for Jerusalem from the capital Delhi on the morning of 25 February. He will meet with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the evening of 25 February. Both the leaders will also have dinner together. There will be a meeting with the delegation on 26th February. The Prime Minister will also meet Israeli President Isaac Herzog. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Israel. Earlier he had gone to Israel in July 2017.

Israeli PM ready to welcome

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also seems eager to host Prime Minister Narendra Modi. By posting on social media platform X, he had mentioned strong relations with India and called PM Modi his closest friend. In return, Prime Minister Modi also mentioned the close relations between India and Israel and said that he was eager to visit Israel.

Why is PM Modi’s visit to Israel important?

PM Modi’s visit to Israel is taking place when tension in the Middle East is at its peak. The war in Gaza may have ended but reports of sporadic clashes still emerge. Apart from this, tension has also increased between Iran and America. There is speculation that the US may soon start military action against Iran. There is a possibility of Israel also being involved in this. A large number of Indians also live in the Middle East, so if a war breaks out, they may be affected.

Agreement may be reached on ‘Iron Dome’

There is also a possibility of many big defense agreements between India and Israel. According to Consul General of Israel in India, Yaniv Revach, there has been an increase in this between the two countries in recent times. The proposal to transfer the technology of ‘Iron Dome’ air defense system may be approved. The success rate of Iron Dome is considered to be 90 percent. Which is considered effective against drone attacks, missile and rocket attacks.
