The devastating floods in Pakistan’s Punjab, Sialkot and other areas have disturbed life. So far, more than 800 people have died. More than 12 lakh people are affected. 2.5 lakh people have been displaced. About 1,432 villages have been hit by floods. Crops have been destroyed, business is stalled and thousands of families are forced to live in relief camps. 700 relief and 265 medical camps have been set up by the government, but the situation at the ground level remains very serious.

During the flood -affected Sialkot tour, Defense Minister Khwaja Mohammad Asif made a peculiar statement. According to him, with the flood water released from India, piles of corpses, cattle and debris came to Pakistan. He said that this debris is hindering the relief work of the local administration. Asif further said that Sialkot is located under the waterways released from Jammu and whenever India releases water, there is regular floods. However, Asif also admitted that India had informed Pakistan twice before releasing water in rivers.

Social media ridicule and criticism
Khwaja Asif’s statement became increasingly viral on Pakistani social media. People criticized him and said that the government is accusing India to divert attention from its preparations and the failures of the infrastructure. Many people, while satirizing, wrote that the flood comes from the water and not from the corpses.

Indo-Pak Water Relations and Indus Water Treaty
This dispute has come up at a time when the Indus Water Treaty is already postponed between India and Pakistan. Water data was exchanged under the treaty, but India stopped it after the Pahalgam attack in April 2025. Despite this, India had shared information about bad weather and potential heavy floods to Pakistan in view of public safety.

Historical level flood
According to the Pakistani Irrigation Department, for the first time after 38 years, Ravi, Sutlej and Chenab rivers are in spate together. This has made the rescue work more difficult. In many districts, army and relief workers are campaigning round the clock.

Pakistan is constantly furious after India temporarily suspended the 1960 Indus Water Agreement. From the military officer of Pakistan to the leaders, leaders have been making statements. After Bilawal Bhutto’s recent Indus Water Treaty statement, now Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has also poisoned against India. He has said jackal, saying that Pakistan will not allow even a drop of water of its rights from India. Recently, PAK Army Chief General Asim Munir had also said that if India creates a dam, Pakistan will drop it with missiles. He threatened the nuclear attack and said, if we are drowning, half the world will be drowned. Apart from this, former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto has also made rhetoric on the matter related to the Indus Water Agreement.

Meanwhile, India has started the tender process for the National Hydro Electric Power Project on Chenab River near Indus village in Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan is afraid that India may stop water from this project and will have a serious impact on agriculture, irrigation and power generation. Although India’s attitude is clear, this project comes under international standards and India’s jurisdiction. Pakistan’s concern is also increasing with the fact that India is already controlled by the Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers and now if India is active on other rivers of the Indus basin, then its water crisis will become serious.

Shehbaz Sharif Warns India of “Serious Consequences” If the Indus Water Treaty is Touched… BeCause in Pakistan’s WorldView, Water is off-Limits But Exporting MILITANTS MILITANTS IS FAIR GAME.

Pahalgam terrorist attack
After the terrorist attack on April 2025 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, the Government of India took a major step and temporarily suspended the 1960 Indus Water Agreement. This decision was taken in the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting, which was aimed at teaching Pakistan a lesson to protect terrorism. After this decision, there is a stir at both political and military leadership levels in Pakistan.

Possible crisis for Pakistan
The Indus, Jhelum and Chenab rivers have 80% irrigation and agricultural production of Pakistan. These rivers meet 70% of its water needs. In case of water stopping, sowing and harvesting will be affected both in both kharif and rabi season. There will be a shortage of drinking water in big cities like Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. The textile sector, which holds 60 per cent of the total exports of Pakistan, will also be seriously affected. Pakistan’s 33% of the electricity comes from hydropower, which will also be affected.

1960 Indus Water Agreement: Background
India has got control of Ravi, Vyas and Sutlej under the 1960 Indus Water Agreement in the World Bank’s mediation. Pakistan was given control of Indus, Jhelum and Chenab. Now, the settlement of the agreement and the introduction of new projects is likely to change the balance.

Oic in support of Pakistan: The two -day meeting of the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC) held in Istanbul, Turkey once again became a platform of Pakistan’s partisan diplomacy. The Council of Foreign Ministers of the 57 Muslim countries OIC’s Foreign Ministers (CFM) in its common statement said to continue the Indus Water Agreement (IWT) between Indo-Pak, on the other hand, on the other hand, made unilateral comments about India’s military action and Kashmir policy. OC in his shared statement made it clear that it fully supports Pakistan’s stand and expects maximum restraint from India.

OIC said about ‘not letting’ Indo-Pak Indus Treaty ‘break’
In the formal statement released after the meeting, OC bluntly said that both sides should strictly follow the Indus Water Treaty between India and Pakistan in 1960. The statement said, “This historic agreement should not be broken under any circumstances. Both sides should continue to follow it.” This comment has come at a time when India strictly strictly strictly strictly taken its stand on the Indus Treaty after the Pahalgam terror attack and indicated to stop Pakistan’s water. Pakistan had strongly objected to this and threatened like war. There has been a conflict between the two countries on this issue for three months.

OC accused India of military growth
OC’s CFM said in a statement, “We are deeply concerned about the growing military activities in South Asia. The military attacks carried out by India at many places in Pakistan can increase regional instability.” OC has urged both sides to avoid stimulating actions and exercise maximum restraint. This is clearly aimed at India, as Pakistan is a permanent member of OC and has been using it as a diplomatic weapon against India for a long time.

Kashmir also in the face of Pakistan
In this meeting of OC, another concern for India is that the organization also repeated Pakistan’s side completely on the Kashmir issue. The statement said, “We support the rights of self -determination of the people of Kashmir, in line with the proposals of the United Nations Security Council, the OC stance and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.”

This statement is against the policy of India in which Kashmir is considered an integral part of India and the mediation of a third party is rejected.

Important meetings in Türkiye, Pak Army chief was also with
This meeting of the Islamic Cooperation Organization was also discussed because Pakistan Army Chief General Aseem Munir also reached Türkiye along with Pakistan Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. Munir met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan there, which is being considered a strategic strategic move on the other side of the official agenda of the meeting. It is believed that this meeting also affected the language of the last statement of OC, in which a sharp stand was taken against India.

Growing diplomatic challenge for India
This latest trend of OIC is going to do diplomatically uncomfortable for India. On the one hand, India is presenting itself as a global leader and development partner on international forums, on the other hand, it is constantly facing opposition due to Pakistan’s partisan advocacy in organizations like OC. Old and stable agreements, such as the Indus Water Agreement, are also now being brought to the center of geopolitical confrontation, causing disturbance in South Asia.
