Today is the second day of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India. In the morning he went to Rashtrapati Bhavan, then paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat and then had talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. While giving a joint statement, both the leaders gave many examples of friendship.

PM Modi said- Putin irrigated relations
PM Modi said in celebration of Putin’s visit to India, ‘Today I am very happy to welcome President Putin to the 23rd summit of India and Russia. His visit is taking place at a time when our bilateral relations are passing through several historic milestones. Exactly 25 years ago, President Putin laid the foundation of our strategic partnership. 15 years ago in 2010, our partnership got the status of Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership.

PM Modi further said, ‘For the last two and a half decades, he has continuously nurtured these relationships with his leadership and vision. His leadership has given mutual relations new heights in every situation. I am deeply thankful to President Putin, my friend, for this deep friendship and his efforts for India.

Putin said that important talks took place between us
Putin also expressed happiness on coming to India. He said, ‘I am heartily thankful to President Draupadi Murmu and PM Modi for this warm welcome. We have discussed in the spirit of friendship and partnership.

Both the leaders described their friendship as very strong
PM Modi described his friendship with Putin as a pole star. PM Modi said, ‘In the last 8 decades, there have been many ups and downs in the world, humanity has had to go through many challenges and crises, but even in the meantime, the friendship between India and Russia has remained like a pole star.’

At the same time, Putin said, ‘The relations between the two countries are very old and deep. These are not just words, there is a very strong and true basis behind them. The friendship between India and Russia is not just in name, but they are trustworthy to each other.

Agreement on economic cooperation program
PM Modi said, ‘Today we discussed all aspects of cooperation to further strengthen this foundation. It is our common responsibility to take economic cooperation to new heights. To make this a reality, today we have agreed on an economic cooperation program till 2030. This will make our trade and investment diverse, balanced and sustainable.

He further said, ‘Today President Putin and I will get a chance to attend the India-Russia Business Forum. I am confident that this platform will give new strength to our business relations. This will also open new doors for export, co-production and co-innovation.

India-Russia will cooperate on agriculture and fertilizer sectors
PM Modi said, ‘Both sides are trying to end the FTA with the Eurasian Economic Union soon. Our close cooperation in the field of agriculture and fertilizers is essential for food security and betterment of farmers. I am happy that taking this forward, both the parties are now trying to produce urea together.

India-Russia together against terrorism
Modi said, ‘India and Russia have been standing shoulder to shoulder in the fight against terrorism for a long time. Be it the terrorist attack in Pahalgam or the cowardly attack on Crocus City Hall, the root of all these incidents is the same.

He said, ‘India firmly believes that terrorism is a direct attack on the values ​​of humanity and the unity of the world against it is our greatest strength. India and Russia have close cooperation on UN, G20, BRICS, SCO and other forums. We will continue our dialogue and cooperation on all these platforms.

Putin said, ‘PM Modi and I have created a close working dialogue. We met during the SCO summit and we ourselves are overseeing the Russia-India dialogue.

30 day tourist visa will be issued for Russian citizens
Modi said, ‘In October this year, lakhs of devotees took blessings of the holy relics of Lord Buddha at the International Buddhist Forum. I am happy that we are soon going to launch 30-day free e-tourist visa and 30-day group tourist visa for Russian citizens.

India-Russia business increased by 12% in 1 year
Putin said, ‘Last year the two-way trade between India and Russia increased by 12%. This is a new record in itself. This figure may look slightly different in different sources, but on average it is about US$64 billion. We are estimating that this year also the level of business will remain equally strong. Both the countries are ready to take this trade to 100 billion dollars.

Nuclear plant being built with the help of Russia
Putin said, ‘Russia and India together are building the largest nuclear power plant in India. This is Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant (Tamil Nadu). This is not India’s but Asia’s largest nuclear project. A total of 6 reactors are being built in this plant. Each reactor will generate 1000 MW electricity. That means, once the entire project is ready, 6000 MW (6 GW) electricity will be available from here. Three out of six reactors have already been connected to India’s energy network. The remaining 3 reactors (Units 4, 5 and 6) are in different stages of construction.

PM Modi said, ‘Energy security has been a strong and important pillar of India-Russia partnership. Our decades-long cooperation in the field of civil nuclear energy has been important in realizing our shared priorities of clean energy. We will continue this win-win cooperation.

Apart from this, many discussions took place between the two leaders, in which issues like critical minerals, connectivity, Vladivostok corridors and cultural cooperation were discussed.

In the end, PM Modi said, ‘I am confident that in the times to come, our friendship will give us the strength to face global challenges and this trust will further enrich our common future.’

India has taken a big step in the aviation sector with Russia. Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) and Russia’s public joint stock company United Aircraft Corporation (PJSC-UAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Moscow on Monday (27 October). Under this, Sukhoi Superjet SJ-100 civil commuter aircraft will be manufactured in India.

This twin-engine, narrow-body aircraft has a capacity of about 100 passengers and has a range of about 3000 kilometers. It has been specially designed for domestic flights. It is reported that till now more than 200 such aircraft have been built around the world and more than 16 airline operators are using them.

‘Make in India’ will get strength

According to experts, manufacturing of SJ-100 in India could prove to be a game-changer for the country’s regional air connectivity scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik). This will be of great help in connecting small cities and towns of the country with the air network. After this agreement, HAL has got exclusive rights to manufacture SJ-100 aircraft in India. This project will not only give new heights to India’s civil aviation sector but will also strengthen the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

Employment opportunities will increase

Apart from this, this project is expected to give international recognition to India’s aviation manufacturing sector. This will not only be a technological achievement for HAL, but it will also give a new direction to India’s self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat). Thousands of employment opportunities will also be created in spare parts, maintenance and supply chain related to aircraft manufacturing.

After the already strong partnership with Russia in the defense sector, this cooperation in civil aviation will further deepen the relations between the two countries. The SJ-100 aircraft can completely transform the regional travel sector in India, especially in areas where air services are limited.
