India Semi Final Qualification Scenario: If the Indian cricket team wants to reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026, it will have to overcome the challenge of West Indies. In 4 matches, the Indian team has won only once, on the remaining 3 occasions the Caribbean team has won. If these head-to-head figures are considered as the basis, then in the T20 World Cup, the Indian team wins over West Indies only on 25 percent of the occasions.

Their first encounter in the T20 World Cup took place in 2009, when West Indies won by 7 wickets in the Super 8 match. The next year i.e. in the 2010 World Cup, they faced each other in the Super-8, this time also West Indies won and took a 2-0 lead in the rivalry. In 2014, India finally got its first victory over West Indies.

India will not forget the 2016 semi-final defeat

In the semi-finals of the 2016 World Cup, West Indies defeated India by 7 wickets and broke its dream of becoming champion. Team India would not have forgotten the wounds of that defeat. This was their last encounter in the T20 World Cup till now.

In international T20 cricket, India and West Indies have come face to face 30 times, out of which Team India has won 19 times. West Indies has won 10 times while one of their matches could not yield any result.

Team India Semi Final Equation if South Africa Wins: The Super-8 match between South Africa and West Indies is being played at Narendra Modi Stadium. In this match, South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. West Indies’ batting collapsed like a house of cards and lost 6 wickets in the first 10 overs. The equation of the semi-finals is such that if West Indies loses today, India’s chances of qualifying will increase, but even if South Africa wins, India can be out.

Will Team India be out?

Currently, the Indian team does not have any points in the points table of Super-8. Whereas South Africa and West Indies have 2 points each. If West Indies wins today, it will have 4 points while Africa will have two points in 2 matches. If India wins over Zimbabwe today, it will also get 2 points equal to South Africa.

After that, if India and South Africa win their respective last matches of Super-8, then the three teams India, South Africa and West Indies will have four points each. In that situation, the decision of India going to the semi-finals will be based on net run-rate. If India wants to improve its net run-rate, it will have to win its next two matches against Zimbabwe and West Indies by big margins.

• If India wins both the matches, but NRR remains low then it is out.
