In today’s time, if the youth are asked which degree is considered best for a good job, then most of the people immediately answer MBA. For years it has been believed that after doing MBA, career paths open up faster, salary is good and job prospects are also more. But this year’s India Skills Report 2026 has surprised everyone.

This report made it clear that the picture of job giving degrees in India is now changing. The MBA which remained at the top for many years has now slipped back. Now a different field has taken its place. This field is computer science and IT. This report has been jointly released by big organizations like ETS (Educational Testing Service), CII, AICTE, Association of Indian Universities and Taggd. In such a situation, the credibility of the report increases even more.
Fast growing new employment opportunities in India

The report states that job opportunities for youth in India are continuously increasing, especially in sectors that are directly related to technology and digital skills. Today, huge investments are being made in areas like AI, cloud computing, cyber security, data analytics and digital technology. Companies want to have employees who understand new technology and can keep themselves updated with the changing times.
Why has the demand for computer science and IT graduates increased?

According to the report, youth with computer science and IT background are getting maximum jobs. The reason for this is the rapidly increasing use of AI and automation in companies, expansion of digital platforms, increasing need for data, emphasis on strengthening cyber security. Companies want such youth who are good not only in coding but also in engineering and data handling, that is, in today’s world, those who have technical and analytical skills are in highest demand.

In which sector are most jobs available?

IT sector is providing maximum jobs. According to the report, 35 percent freshers are getting jobs in the IT sector. This data shows that technology-related careers in India will remain strong for many years to come.

This report has given the biggest blow to MBA graduates. While last year the employment percentage of MBA people was 78 percent, this year it has come down to 72.76 percent, that is, the demand for MBA has reduced, and the first choice of companies is now not just management, but technology and analytical skills.

Big opportunity for commerce graduates also

It has also been told in the report that commerce has now become not just an ordinary degree but a strong job option. The demand for youth related to business analytics, finance and operation management in companies is continuously increasing. A very interesting trend was seen in the report. The employment rate of ITI graduates is 45.95 percent.

The employment of those with Polytechnic Diploma is 32.92 percent, which means that now many job opportunities are opening up not only for the youth with big degree but also for the youth with skill based education.

Read also Now education will move beyond books… CBSE has made ‘skill education’ mandatory from 6th to 8th, children will learn real life tasks.

If anything is changing fastest in today’s world, it is Artificial Intelligence (AI). Every sector, be it banking, manufacturing, healthcare or education, everything has now become digital and AI. In such a situation, the question arises that which country is emerging as the biggest AI hub of this new era. AI, digital skilling and the learning power of youth have made them leaders in the new skill economy. If this speed continues, then in the coming years this country can become the number one country in the world in terms of AI talent. In such a situation, let us know which country has the highest AI talent and at what position India stands in this matter.

Which country has the highest AI talent?

According to the India Skills Report 2026, India is now one of the leading countries in the world in terms of AI skills. This report has been prepared by ETS in collaboration with CII (Confederation of Indian Industry), AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) and AIU (Association of Indian Universities).

In this report, data was collected from more than 1 lakh candidates and more than 1000 companies. In India, AI is now being considered as a baseline skill, that is, just as it was necessary to know how to operate a computer or use the Internet, now knowledge of AI has also become necessary for almost every digital job.
AI and skilling increased employability
According to the report, India’s employability i.e. the ability to get employment has increased from 54.81 percent in 2024 to 56.35 percent in 2025. This means that now more people than ever before are getting skilled as per the needs of the industries. The three big reasons behind this are rapid training in AI and digital skills, increasing participation of youth from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, increasing role of women, whose employability rate has reached 54 percent, which is more than that of men.
Where does India stand in this matter?
According to the report, the number of AI professionals in India will reach 12.5 lakh by 2027. More than 90 percent of employees are now using generative AI tools in some form or the other. Also, 70 percent of companies in the IT sector and 50 percent of companies in the banking, finance and insurance sector (BFSI) have started using AI-based systems for recruitment.

According to the report, in the next financial year 2026-27, the hiring intent of companies has increased from 29 percent to 40 percent. Most jobs are expected to be created in sectors like technology, banking and fintech, manufacturing, renewable energy, health care. Also, BFSI and fintech sectors alone can create 2.5 lakh new jobs by 2030.

Changes in education and policy

Gig and freelance work force is continuously increasing in India. This figure is estimated to reach 2.35 crore by 2030. Project-based hiring grew by 38 percent last year alone. Now, while 72 percent of jobs are permanent, gig and third-party jobs have increased to 16 percent. This means that the Indian economy is gradually moving towards a flexible work model.

At the same time, new initiatives of AICTE like Project PRACTICE and AI and Climate Sales have given a new shape to technical education. Now education is not limited to books only but the focus is on project-based learning, collaboration with industry, and stackable certificates. The report says that if India has to maintain its skill power in the future, then it will have to link policy, education and industry together.
