A big drop in the prices of premium British whiskey brands may soon be seen in India in the coming days. The main reason for this is the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to India to finalize the trade agreement between India and Britain, in which special attention is being given to British-made whiskey.

In fact, India is the largest consumer of Scotch and whiskey in the world in terms of quantity. British whiskey brands like Chivas Regal, Ballantine, The Glenlivet, Glenfiddich and Johnnie Walker are in great demand in the Indian market. In such a situation, the huge demand for Scotch whiskey in India has been driven by the rapidly growing middle class and changing tastes towards luxury imported products.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to London in July this year, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) was signed between India and Britain, which promises to make expensive liquor cheaper. This agreement will not only affect foreign brands, but the prices of IMFL (India-Made Foreign Liquor) brands sold in the Indian market will also come down.

After three years of talks, India-UK After CETA signature on

This trade agreement between India and Britain comes after three years of difficult negotiations, which were further intensified by circumstances like US President Donald Trump’s tariff tension. At present, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is on a tour of India. Along with him have also come members of the Scotch Whiskey Association and executives of big companies like Diageo, the manufacturer of Johnnie Walker. The purpose of this visit of the British Prime Minister to India is to strengthen India-UK relations in trade, fintech, defense and other areas. However, the liquor sector is garnering the most headlines in this agreement, in which the agreement regarding Scotch whiskey is being seen as a big success.

Annual sale of whiskey in India can reach one billion dollars

According to Downing Street estimates, annual sales of Scotch whiskey in India could reach $1 billion. This will create more than 1000 new jobs in Scotland, benefit the UK economy by 190 million pounds every year and bilateral trade between the two countries could increase to 25.5 billion pounds ($34 billion) by 2024. With this step, consumers in India will be able to get premium whiskey at affordable rates.

The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) has been signed between India and the United Kingdom (UK) and it will get a direct benefit to the Indian buyers who are dreaming of buying an imported luxury car and bike. Till now, up to 100% import duty on imported vehicles in India was done, which caused their prices double.

Rolls worth 12 crores will be available in 6 crores now

Under FTA, a new quota system will now be implemented, in which only 10% import tax will be levied on vehicles made in UK in fixed number. This will make the vehicles quite cheap. For example, Rolls Royce Cullinan, which is now about 12 crores, can now be found for about 6 crores. At the same time, Bentley Bentayga, which is currently priced at Rs 6 crore, can now be found around Rs 3 crore.

Made-in-UK brands will get direct benefit

FTA will directly benefit from the brands that are manufactured in the UK and which are already present in India. Many vehicles of companies like Jaguar and Land Rover are assembled in India, but high-end models are imported from UK. McLaren, who entered the Indian market in 2022, can now get McLaren 750s worth 5.91 crores for about 3 crore. Let us know that expenses like GST, registration and insurance will still be separate in these prices.

Imported bikes will also be cheap

Now not only cars, but bike lovers will also get a big benefit from this trade agreement. Price of premium motorcycles coming from UK such as Triumph Rockt 3 Storm and Triumph Tiger 1200 can be less than Rs 22.49 lakh and Rs 19.39 lakh. Along with this, Indian companies like Royal Enfield, TVS and Norton will be able to increase their exports in the UK, which will further strengthen the global impact of India’s automobile industry.

Even though customers are very excited by this FTA, it is not yet clear when and how the duty cut will be applied. For this reason, many customers have temporarily put their booking on hold. Dealers are worried that if there is a delay in implementation of duty cut, sales may be affected.

India uk fta: The free trade agreement was approved after a three -year long conversation and tireless hard work between India and Britain on Thursday. On the one hand, while PM Modi said that India will get a big market, on the other hand, the British media also praised the India-UK FTA. Along with this, it said that this will increase the pace of GDP and will get a big market in the world as fast as India.

Describing it as a historic agreement, the British government said that it would ensure thousands of jobs and exports. Almost all the UK media has termed the free trade agreement as a successful step after Brexit. Let us know what the British media said on this deal-

Praise in British media

On the Indo-UK FTA, The Times said that this agreement is worth hard work. This is because it gives Britain a huge market, which can be the second largest market after China by 2050. During the British Raj, he reminded of Gandhiji’s boycott of foreign textiles and the historic event of buying Khadi, and said that India became the fifth largest economy in the world, leaving behind Britain behind in 2022.

Brexit is succeeding

The Daily Express of Britain has read the Kasi of India and UK Free Trade Agreement and wrote that this agreement between the two countries will give people in favor of living in the European Union in their cornflakes. Because it has been possible only after leaving the EU, which shows that Brexit has been successful in really.

How to benefit GDP-

In fact, after this agreement, now the customs rates on Indian products in Britain will now be reduced from 15 percent to 3 percent. With this, bilateral trade between India and Britain aims to reach about $ 120 billion by 2030. However, it will take a year to implement.

But The Financial Times say that the British Automobile Sector is disappointed with FTA. Due to this, Indian import duty on petrol and diesel cars will be reduced by only 10 percent by 2031. Apart from this, strict boundaries (quota) will also be applicable on the sale of British cars in India, which will decrease gradually by 2046.

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to United Kingdom (UK), India signed the much awaited trade agreement (FTA) with Britain on Thursday (July 24, 2025). Britain’s Prime Minister Kir Stmper welcomed PM Modi at Checkers House. During this time, India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and his British counterpart Jonathan Reynolds signed the agreement.

With this deal, both countries will start a new chapter in bilateral relations. This agreement will increase investment in both countries and will also create new employment opportunities for the common people. Under this agreement, there will be a direct impact on the pockets of the people of the country, because under the FTA, medicines, clothes, electronic to fashion items will become cheaper. However, some things will also be expensive by this.

What things will be cheap

Textile and fabric business will benefit

The tariff of 8 to 12 percent of the currently 8 to 12 percent tariffs on clothing and home textile products exported from India to Britain will now be abolished. With this agreement, India’s textiles will become more competitive than countries like Bangladesh and Vietnam.

Gemstone, Jewelery and leather industry

Since this agreement, leather goods with high value products such as gold and diamond jewelery will now be duty free in Britain and no additional fee will have to be paid on it. This step will specially benefit India’s MSME and luxury brands and will strengthen India’s presence through Britain in Europe’s markets.

Engineering goods and auto parts

Britain will now abolish import duty (import duty) on machinery, engineering tools and auto parts built in India. This will emphasize India’s participation in the Industrial Supply Chain of UK and Europe

IT and Professional Service

The recognition of professional qualifications and visa rules will be relaxed in areas such as Engineering, Architecture and Accounting from FTA. With this, the professionals of India will be able to work easily in the UK and after this agreement, there is a possibility of becoming about 60,000 new jobs in the next five years in areas like IT, Finance, Law and Health Services.

Medicines and medical devices

With the free trade agreement, Indian pharmaceutical companies will benefit from the ease of regulatory process in Britain and medicines will be cheaper. This includes especially generic medicines. This will also make access to NHS easier and the approval process of medicines for India companies can also be intensified.

Food processing, Tea, Spices and Marine Products

Many agricultural and food exports in India, including sea products like basmati rice, shrimp, premium tea and spices, will be abolished. This will benefit business related trade in states like Assam, Gujarat, Kerala and West Bengal.

Chemicals and Specialty Materials

FTA will emphasize exports from major industrial hubs of Gujarat and Maharashtra on low tariffs on agrochemicals, plastic and special chemicals. India aims to double its chemical exports with Britain by 2030 under this agreement.

Green Energy and Cleintech

The agreement will open the way for joint ventures of India and Britain in the field of renewable energy including solar energy, green hydrogen and electric vehicles (EV) infrastructure. This is expected to increase Britain’s investment in India’s clean energy field and will also give emphasis to develop new innovative techniques jointly.

Alcoholic beverages (benefits Britain)

The FTA deal between India and Britain will now have the pleasure of alcoholics. Because in the next 10 years, India will reduce the 150 percent tariff on Scotch whiskey to 30 percent. This will greatly increase the British market share in India and liquor enthusiasts in India and people involved in hotel business will get liquor at affordable prices.

India-uk free trade agreement: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Britain on a tour of two days (23-24 July 2025). During this time, the trade agreement between India and Britain will be finalized in May. It is expected that the deal will be formally signed during this period.

PM Modi will go on a four -day tour of Britain and Maldives from Wednesday. In the first phase, he will go to Britain on July 23-24 and in the second phase will be on a tour of Maldives on 25-26 July. He will attend the Independence Day celebrations in Maldives as ‘Chief Guest’.

Negotiations on the deal started in 2022

This trade agreement between India and Britain is considered very important. India is the fifth largest economy in the world and Britain is the sixth largest economy in the world. In January 2022, the first conversation on this agreement began. In three years, 14 rounds of talks have been completed so far. This agreement will boost the trade of both countries. This will promote India’s export, leather and engineering goods exports. Also, UK products like whiskey, automobile and medical devices will also benefit.

What will be the benefit of India?

In FY 2024, UK worth $ 12.9 billion (about 1.12 lakh crore rupees) was exported from India. These included products such as leather, footwear, james and jewelery, textiles and clogging, furniture, sports goods, chemical, transport/auto components. In Britain, these products of India are charged with a duty fee of up to 4-16 percent. In such a situation, if the tariff is less then India will benefit more.

Both countries benefit from the deal

Scotch whiskey from Britain and Jin’s import duty will be initially reduced to 75 percent and 40 percent by 10th year. At the moment, it is 150 percent. Under the quota of both sides, the tariff on the automobile of Britain will be reduced from 100 percent to 10 percent, which will benefit companies like Tata-JLR.

Whiskey is ordered from Britain to India worth more than 20 million pounds (Rs 2,310 crore) every year. Tariffs on internal combustion engine (ice) vehicles will be gradually reduced in the long term. Tariff on luxury cars will also be reduced from 100 percent to 10 percent under the quota of both sides. UK companies will get special discounts under the ‘Make in India’ policy. Every year business will grow between the two countries.

Export of both countries will increase

This deal is expected to increase around 60 percent (15.7 billion pounds – 1.81 lakh crore rupees) in Britain’s exports to India. With this, India’s exports to Britain are also expected to increase 25 percent (9.8 billion pounds – 1.13 lakh crore rupees). India is the 12th largest trading partner in Britain, while Britain is the 14th largest trading partner in India.

Total is a turnover of Rs 195,937 crore (Rs 1.95 lakh crore) between India and Britain. India’s exports to Britain are Rs 123,055 crore (Rs 1.23 lakh crore), while goods worth Rs 72,882 crore are exported from Britain.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will leave on important tour of Britain and Maldives from July 23 to July 26. The purpose of this visit is to give a new strength to India’s diplomatic relations and expand the business partnership. Also, PM Modi will sign the Indo-Bitten Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in the first phase tour of Britain on 23-24 July.

This historic agreement will pave the way for reduction of tariffs on 99 percent of Indian exports. This will give Indian companies a market in Britain, while the Indian market will open for British products like whiskey and cars. This agreement is the result of strict talks that have been going on for the last three years, which aims to make the business environment more favorable for both countries. FTA will not only deepen business relations between India and Britain, but will also strengthen security and strategic partnership.

PM Modi will reach Maldives on 25-26 July

Prime Minister Modi will reach Maldives on 25-26 July, where he will be the chief guest of the 60th National Day celebrations. The visit will be PM Modi’s first bilateral visit under the rule of President Mohammad Mujju. This tour is considered to be very important in view of the recent tension in India-Maldives relations. Circumstances such as the ‘India Out’ campaign and the current government’s inclination towards China had caused bilateral relations. His visit will be an important step towards restoring the trust between the two countries and strengthening mutual cooperation.

An opportunity to repeat India’s ‘NeighBourhood First’ policy

The tour is an opportunity to repeat India’s ‘NeighBourhood First’ policy, under which India wants to have a close and balanced relationship with its marine neighbors. Prime Minister Modi’s last visit to Maldives took place in June 2019. At the same time, President Mujju visited India in October 2024 and indicated to improve relations. In such a situation, this visit of Prime Minister Modi can prove to be a new direction to bilateral cooperation.

India may soon make a social security agreement with Britain in a free trade agreement (FTA). On Wednesday (July 02, 2025), a source gave this information.

According to sources, from now on, the Social Security Agreement (SSA) will be an integral part of all the free trade agreement to be interacted in the future. The source said, ‘UK is believed to have agreed to the social security component under FTA talks. It will be thought out further.

Social security agreement is a mutual system between two or more countries, which decides that the employee working abroad does not have to contribute to the security coverage fund, but he gets full benefit of employment period for pension calculation. Employers also avoid making double social security contribution on behalf of their employees.

Permission to issue coverage certificates

For Indian employees posted abroad or foreign appointment abroad, it is necessary to take coverage certificate (COC) from the Retirement Fund Body EPFO. This prevents the payment of social security contribution in the countries deployed.

Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has been allowed to issue coverage certificates to employees deployed in countries who have signed an agreement with India.

Appeal to include SSA

Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandavia told reporters here that he has requested the Ministry of Commerce to include SSA in all FTA talks in future. He said, ‘We are doing this to promote social security of all people.’

Currently, India has done SSA with 22 countries including Canada, Japan, Australia, Germany, Sweden and Brazil. Citizens of all these 22 countries get equal benefits for being deployed in India.
