America has released its National Security Strategy during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India (4-5 December). The special thing is that in this strategy America has laid emphasis on strengthening relations with India. Also, instead of taking a stand alone against China in South China, it has been asked to cooperate with countries like India and Japan.

After Operation Sindoor (6-10 May), relations between India and America have turned sour. US President Donald Trump has once again taken the credit for ending the war between India and Pakistan in the National Security Strategy-2025.

Trump’s tariffs create rift between India and US

India has made it clear that Operation Sindoor was stopped on the request of Pakistan and not with the mediation of Trump. In such a situation, Trump had held India’s closeness to Russia responsible for the Ukraine war. Trump had expressed his displeasure over India buying oil and weapons from Russia. Angry Trump had imposed 50 percent tariff on India. Due to this, there appeared to be a rift in the relations between India and America.

America realized its mistake!

India responded to America’s anger with restraint and also maintained closeness with Russia. Strategic relations between India and Russia have become stronger due to Putin’s visit. From the new National Security Strategy it appears that America has understood its mistake and efforts are being made again to establish stronger relations with India.
The US National Strategy states that ending the war in Ukraine and building stable strategic relations with Russia is a priority. The special thing is that US President Donald Trump has cited India’s strong military and trade relations with Russia as a major reason for the Ukraine war not stopping. In such a situation, the world is surprised by America’s changed strategy.

America is troubled by China’s dominance

America is also feeling troubled by China’s increasing dominance in the Indo-Pacific region, but it is proving difficult for America to stop China on its own. This is the reason why cooperation has been expected from India in the National Security Strategy.

The world is surprised by America’s latest strategy because questions have also been raised about Europe and NATO. It has been said in the strategy that the world should not feel that NATO is doing its ‘expansion’. The real reason for Russia’s attack on Ukraine is actually considered to be NATO’s expansion. Putin had opposed Ukraine being made a member of NATO.

After the announcement of US President Donald Trump’s announcement to the H-1B visa fees to $ 1 lakh annually, there was a huge panic in the Indian community. Its effect was also seen at the airports, where many passengers got off the aircraft due to fear.

Afratifari at San Francisco Airport

Indian passengers had boarded a flight in Emirates at San Francisco International Airport. Then the news of increasing H-1B visa fees spread. After this, the passengers panicked and started demanding to get off the plane. In the viral video on social media, it can be seen that dozens of passengers were pleading with ground staff to go out of the aircraft. The chaos increased so much that the flight left for about three hours late.

Companies issued warning
After the news, big companies like Microsoft, Amazon and JP Morgan advised their employees. He said that those who are outside America should return immediately. At the same time, those who are already in America were warned to avoid international travel. Currently, the H-1B visa fee ranges between $ 2,000 to 5,000. But if the new policy is implemented, this fee will be 1 million dollars annually. This decision will have the most impact on Indian IT professionals, as more than 70% of the H-1B visa holders are Indians.

H-1B visa is valid for three years
The H-1B visa is given for three years and it can be extended by three more years, but it can be very difficult for Indians to work and stay in the US when the new fees are implemented.

Trump signed government order
Trump on Friday signed a government order under an important development, which would affect Indian professionals working on H-1B visas in the US. Under this order, immigrants working in ‘Special Business’ will not be allowed to enter the US for not paying US $ 100,000 with H-1B applications. This order will be effective from 21 September 2025 at 12:01 pm.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has increased the annual fee to US $ 1 lakh by imposing a huge economic burden on H-1B visa holders and employers. The move is going to have a direct impact on Indian IT companies, professionals and global technical giants. Experts believe that companies will now reduce new applications and the trend of outsourcing may increase. Also, this change can also bring new opportunities for Indian cities.

What did the former CFO of Infosys say?
Mohandas Pai, former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Infosys, dismissed the notion that companies use H-1B visas to send cheap workers to the US. He said that the average salary paid by the top 20 H-1B employers to employees is already more than US $ 1 lakh. Pai described President Trump’s statements as ‘absurd rhetoric’.

India can get benefit
Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that this increase in H-1B visa fee will harm America’s innovation ecosystem. But he also added that this will now move towards the laboratory, patent and startup of the next wave towards India, especially towards cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. According to him, the closure of America’s doors for global talent will give new pace to the technical cities of India and India can become the center of innovation.

Impact on Indian IT companies and global giants
Sajai Singh, partner of JSA Advocates and Solicitors, said that this decision of America will prove to be expensive for those Indian IT companies and professionals who are very dependent on the H-1B visa. He warned that this would affect the business model and earnings. An IT industry expert said that Indian technical companies get around 8,000 to 12,000 new H-1B approval every year. This effect will not be limited to Indian companies only, but will also have on multinational companies like Amazon, Google and Microsoft.

NASSCOM expressed concern
Industry body NASSCOM issued a statement on Saturday, saying that increasing the H-1B visa application fee to $ 1 lakh will adversely affect Indian technology service companies. According to NASSCOM, this may disrupt the commercial continuity of projects running abroad. NASSCOM also expressed concern that the time limit of September 21 is extremely short and this has increased uncertainty among professionals and students around the world.

NASSCOM further said that Indian and India-centric companies are already emphasizing local appointments in the US and reducing their dependence on H-1B. He assured that these companies comply with all H-1B procedures in the US, give prevalent salary, contribute to the local economy and also share innovation with education and startups.

After the huge tax tariff levied by the US on India, now US President Donald Trump has changed his stand. Trump has now talked about his friendship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing his relations with India as strong.

On Wednesday (September 17, 2025), a day after congratulating PM Modi on his birthday, Trump told reporters with British Prime Minister Kir Stmper, ‘I am very close to India, I am very close to the Prime Minister of India. I recently talked to him and wished him a happy birthday. We have very good relations.

Criticism of European countries buying oil from Russia

Trump’s comment came at a time when he criticized European countries buying oil from Russia and said that such steps weaken efforts to isolate Moscow amidst the current conflicts. Despite expressing his displeasure over Russian oil trade with India, Trump highlighted his close ties with Modi and suggested that reducing global oil prices would be forced to compromise Russia.

Trump said, ‘I came to know that European countries were buying oil from Russia, but I banned them. China is currently giving a huge tariff to America, but I am ready to do other things, but when I am fighting for the people I am buying oil from Russia. If oil prices are low then Russia will compromise very easily.

Donald Trump eager to meet Prime Minister Modi

President Trump made this statement during a meeting with British Prime Minister Kir Starmer. Trump said that he is eager to talk to his very good friend Prime Minister Modi in the coming weeks and he is confident that both countries will reach a successful agreement. Meanwhile, the future of trade talks between India and the US remains uncertain.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday (September 11, 2025) that today India is one of the top relations countries in the world of America and America is going through an ‘extraordinary change’ in this regard with India. Rubio introduced him during the hearing of the name of the US nominated Ambassador Sergio Gore in India before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Rubio said that he has known Gore for a long time and the country he has been nominated, ‘I would say that he is one of the countries with top relations in the world of America today’. Last month, President Donald Trump had said that he was appointing the President’s Office Personnel Director Gor as the next US Ambassador to India and a special messenger for South and Central Asian Affairs.

‘Will have to work together with India’

On confirmation of the appointment, Gore (38) will be the youngest US ambassador in India. Rubio said that in the 21st century, the story will be written in the Hind-Pacific region. In fact, it is so important that we have changed the name of Combatant Command of the Indo-Pacific region, India is in its center.

He said, ‘We are going through an extraordinary change in our relations with India. Some very important issues are coming in front of us, on which we have to work together with them. We also have to work on those who affect the events happening in Ukraine, as well as the events happening in this region.

‘Selection of gore is absolutely suitable’

Rubio described the selection of Gore for the post of Ambassador as perfect and said, “It is important that America should be represented by a person who gets the trust of the President of America, who is close to him.”

US President Donald Trump described Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a good friend and great Prime Minister amidst a tariff controversy with India. He said that there is special relations between India and America and sometimes moments of stress can come, but the relationship between the two countries will remain strong.

Prime Minister Modi, reacting to Trump’s comment, wrote on X (Twitter) that he deeply appreciates the positive evaluation of the feelings and relationships of the US President and fully supports it.

Deeply Appreciate and Fully Reciprocate President Trump’s Sentiments and Positive Assessment of Our Ties.

Why India and America relations deteriorate?

Recently, the US has imposed up to 50 percent tariffs on imports coming from India. In August, the Trump administration imposed 25 percent tariff. After this, an additional 25 percent fee was also imposed on India for buying oil from Russia. These decisions have caused sourness in business relations between the two countries. However, India and America are still ally at the strategic and diplomatic levels.

Modi’s emphasis on strategic partnership

PM Modi said that there is a positive and visionary widespread global partnership between India and America. The partnership of the two countries is constantly strengthening with the cooperation in defense, technology, energy and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific sector. This is the reason that despite business tension, both leaders are giving priority to personal relations.

Indo-US relations balance of friendship and stress

The relations between India and America have never been very stressful. Even though there is a difference of opinion on business or policy, both countries are important partners of each other in a strategic point of view. Both countries cooperate in the fight against security and terrorism. To maintain power balance in the Asia-Pacific region, it is very important for the two countries to live together.

US President Donald Trump made a big announcement on Tuesday (August 5, 2025) and said that I will put heavy tariffs on India within 24 hours. Describing Russia as war machine, he said that India is giving him fuel.

Trump said in an interview to CNBC, ‘India has not been a good business partner because they do a lot of business with us, but we do not do business with them. So we had compromised on 25 percent tariffs, but I think I will increase it a lot in the next 24 hours because they are buying oil from Russia.

Trump threatened again after India’s reply

This statement of the US President has come at a time when he said a day earlier that he will increase the tariff on India. He had said that India is buying oil from Russia and selling it on profit. On this statement of Trump, India criticized the US and European Union for export of crude oil.

Critic countries also do business with Russia: India

The Ministry of External Affairs said, ‘India’s import is a need due to the status of the global market. The countries criticizing this trade with Russia themselves, while such business is not even a significant obligation.

India responded to America

The Ministry of External Affairs said that the US itself is doing business with Russia. At the same time, on the other hand, India-Russia is raising finger on business. Despite strict sanctions and tariffs last year, the US traded about $ 3.5 billion with Russia. Mea said that the US still imports uranium hexafloride from Russia for its nuclear industry, paladium, fertilizer and chemical for the industry of electric vehicles.

Russia came in support of India

In the midst of Trump’s tariff threats, Russia said in support of India that no sovereign country can be given the right to choose its business partner and it can be threatened. A Kremlin spokesman said, ‘It is illegal to force any country to close trade with Russia. Such pressure against Russia’s business partners will be understood as a threat.

Also read- ‘Do not make pressure on Russia’s trade partner, we will understand it threat’, Putin came out in support of India’s tariff threat

Trump tax bill: US President Donald Trump’s most ambitious tax and spending scheme is now moving towards final voting in the lower house of the US Parliament (House of Representatives). There has been a tremendous tussle in America’s politics about this bill. Trump considers it to be the basis of his potential second term, but he has had to struggle a lot in getting it passed. Trump himself called this bill “One Big, Beautiful Bill”.

The bill includes disputed proposals such as cutting social welfare programs and adding additional national debt of three trillion dollars. Many MPs of the Republican Party have also opposed it with Democrats.

NRI and Indian professionals get big relief
The biggest relief in this controversial bill is for Indian migrants. Around 45 lakh Indians living in the US were relieved when the proposed tax rate on international money transfer was reduced from 5% to just 1% in the latest draft of the bill. This will provide great relief to those Indians who transfer money at their home.

In the revised draft released on June 27, it was clarified that this tax would be applicable only to those who are residents of America but are not American citizens. It also includes professionals and foreign students working on green card holders, H-1B and H-2A visas.

Which transactions will not be taxed?
An important change in the bill has also been made that certain types of money transfer will be completely released from this tax. According to the draft, if the money is being sent from the US bank account or the transaction is being done by debit/credit card, then there will be no tax on it.

Tax will be applicable only to the money sent through cash, money order or cashier check. This will directly affect millions of overseas Indians who send money to their families in India through traditional mediums.

How did the bill change and why there is dispute?
The bill was passed by the House of Representatives in May, but after just one vote in the Senate, he was sent back to the lower house with some amendments. The most important change of these was about money transfer tax. Those opposing the bill say that this will increase the national debt of America even more and will weaken social welfare schemes. But Trump is calling it a big step towards America’s economic strength.

Us baseline tariff: The future of 10% baseline tariffs imposed on imports from all countries on April 2 by the Trump administration has now become the focal point of negotiations deciding the initial outline of the Indo-US trade agreement. According to experts associated with the case, this issue is being raised prominently in the ongoing conversation between New Delhi and Washington.

India objected to objection, demand to remove tariffs from America
According to sources associated with the negotiations, Indian negotiaters have demanded from the US side that not only 10% of the baseline tariffs should be removed, but also the proposed 16% additional fee from July 9 should not be applied. India’s attitude is clear that if America does not remove this fee, it will also have the right to continue the counter tariff equally on American goods.

Fifth round conversation is going on in Delhi
On June 4, a high -level delegation led by US trade representative Brendon Lynch reached Delhi. This is the fifth face to face between the two countries on this issue. This team will now remain in Delhi till June 10, whereas earlier it was described as a journey of only two days.

“Tariffs should be removed together from both sides”
A senior official said, “The ideal situation will be that as soon as there is an interim agreement, 10% baseline tariffs applied to Indian goods and 16% fees from July 9 should be abolished together. Otherwise India will also have the right to continue a total tariff on America’s goods.”

Modi-Trump’s joint announcement referred to
The meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump in Washington on 13 February and a shared statement emphasized the need for ‘Mutual Beneficial’ and ‘Fair Trade Terms’. In this sequence, under ‘Mission 500’, a target has been set to bring bilateral trade to $ 500 billion by the year 2030.

“Equality, balance and public acceptance is necessary”
Another official associated with the talks said, “Both countries are sovereign – one oldest democracy and the second largest democracy. America is the largest economy and India is the fastest growing economy. In such a situation, any agreement should be balanced, justified and acceptable for people.”

India has also indicated that it is ready to open its market for American goods, provided America also respond in equal way. An official said, “Our business is mutually complementary, not competitive.”

India objected to America-UK deal
Citing Britain’s experience, India made it clear that it will not adopt any model in which tariffs remain. Britain got some exemption in the ‘Economic Prosperity Deal’ (EPD) received from the US, but 10% baseline tariff is still applicable.

Deal race before July 9
The two countries want to finalize an ‘Early Harvest Deal’ before July 9, so that the large tariff can be relieved before it is implemented. After this, work on full bilateral trade agreement (BTA) is likely to be completed by September-October 2025.

Goyal’s visit to America was also important
During this period, India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also lived in the US from 17 to 22 May, where he held important meetings with his counterpart US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik and US Trade Representative Jamison Greece. The impact of these meetings is now clearly visible in the ongoing conversation in Delhi.
