Trump had announced a fee rates for about 70 countries in a government order. 25 percent of the counter -duty on India became effective from Thursday. In addition to the 25 percent fee announced last week, President Trump on Wednesday imposed a 25 percent fee for the purchase of Russian oil on India, which has increased the total fee on India to 50 percent, which is one of the highest charges levied by the US on any country. This additional fee will be effective after 21 days i.e. from August 27.

Amidst the opposition’s vigorous protests, Goyal said, “The effects of the recent developments are being investigated.” He further said that his ministry is collecting feedback from exporters and industry groups and will take all necessary steps to protect and advance our national interests.
