Political lobist Jason Miller met US President Donald Trump at Washington DC amid tariffs dispute between India and the US. Miller is the same lobist who was appointed by the Government of India to strengthen his diplomatic access to the US administration a few months ago.

Miller shared his picture with Trump from the White House and wrote, “I spent a brilliant week in Washington. I met many friends and the most important moment of the week was to see the President in action.” Even though the official agenda of this meeting has not come out, time is very important. In fact, at present, Indo-US trade relations and tariffs are once again in discussion and the economic strategies of both countries are being closely monitored.

Miller, close to Trump and in controversy

Jason Miller has been close to Trump for a long time and was his leading media spokesperson in the 2016 election. He was to be made a White House Communication Director, but had to retreat due to personal controversies and allegations. He was accused of sexual harassment and controversies related to relationships. Despite this, he remained under Trump’s political realm and was a prominent advisor in both 2020 and 2024 election campaigns. In the year 2020, he founded the SHW Partners LLC and registered as a foreign lobist.

Miller’s contract with the Government of India

According to public documents, Jason Miller’s company Shw Partners LLC was appointed by the Government of India on a one -year contract in April 2025.

Contract amount: $ 1.8 million (about ₹ 15 million)

Monthly fees: $ 1,50,000

Work: Help in strategic counseling and government relations for India with US government, Congress, think tanks, educational institutions and other stakeholders.

Why is this important meeting?

There is a tension between India and America about tariffs at this time. In such a situation, Jason Miller’s meeting with Trump and the Government of India make him a lobist is considered very important from diplomatic point of view.

S & P Global Rating on India GDP: Despite a long -running conversation on India’s trade deal with America, no positive results could come out. On the other hand, US President Donald Trump not only imposed a 25 percent base tariff on India, but also announced an additional 25 percent tariff as a penalty due to buying cheap oil from Russia. Although this additional tariff has not been implemented yet, it has to be effective from August 27.

Report on India’s economic strength

Meanwhile, a report has come, which reflects India’s growing economic strength, and the US President may also be surprised to see. Yiforn Fukha, director of S&P Global Rating, says that India’s tariff will not affect India’s economic growth, because India is not a trade-oriented economy.

He said on Wednesday that the scenario of India’s ‘Sovereign rating’ will remain positive. The rating agency S&P had increased India’s sovereign rating ‘BBB-‘ to ‘positive’ in May last year, citing strong economic growth.

Why will there not be an effect?

When asked by the director of S&P Global Ratings, whether the tariff imposed will negatively impact India’s positive scenario, he said that he would not think it would have any effect on India’s economic growth, because India is not a very much trade-oriented economy.

He further said that if we look at India’s dependence on America in the context of exports compared to GDP (GDP), then it is about 2 percent. S&P estimates that in the current financial year 2025-26, India’s GDP growth rate will be 6.5 percent, which is equivalent to the previous financial year 2024-25.

India’s manufacturing PMI: Despite global uncertainties, there has been a significant increase in India’s manufacturing sector in July. The PMI index remained over 58 for the second consecutive month. The figure was 58.4 in June, which increased to 59.1 in July- this is the highest level of the last 16 months.
Manufacturing sector boom

Seasonally adjusted HSBC India Manufacturing Purchase Manager Index (PMI) increased from 58.4 of June to 59.1 in July. This is a sign of the strongest improvement in the region since March 2024. The PMI extending above 50 of the index indicates expansion in production activities, while the figure below 50 indicates contractions.

Key points in HSBC report

HSBC Chief Indian Economist Pranjul Bhandari said that the manufacturing sector growth in July was at 59.1, which is more than 58.4 in June. This increase became possible due to new orders and strong increase in production.

Sale and production at record level

According to the survey, the total sales increased at the fastest speed in about 5 years. As a result, manufacturing growth reached a 15 -month high. The survey also stated that Indian manufacturers are convinced about the increase in production in the next 12 months. However, the overall positive spirit has come to its low level in the last three years.

Pressure on cost and prices

According to the survey, the cost of raw materials increased rapidly in July. The prices of items such as aluminum, leather, rubber and steel increased, causing the cost pressure to increase. Due to the high demand situation, companies have also increased the prices of their products. The SBC India Manufacturing PMI is prepared by S&P Global based on the answers to the questions sent between about 400 manufacturing companies.
