IndiGo Airlines Crisis: Irregularities in Indigo Airlines flights continued for the eighth day. On Tuesday, the airline canceled a total of 422 flights from six major airports of the country. According to PTI report, out of these canceled flights, 152 flights were canceled at Delhi airport alone and 121 flights were canceled at Bengaluru. 58 flights in Hyderabad, 41 in Mumbai and more than 50 in Chennai were cancelled. Due to continuous flight cancellations, there was a lot of trouble and confusion among the passengers.

In view of the continuous disruption in flights, the government has intervened. The Civil Aviation Ministry has ordered a 5% reduction in IndiGo’s flight services during the winter programme. Along with this, instructions have also been given that if the airline does not follow the approved schedule, its slots will be made available to other airlines. The government says that Indigo has failed to handle its expanded schedule, so it became necessary to take this step.

Indigo – the country’s largest domestic airline

Gurugram-based Indigo Airlines is the largest airline in India’s domestic aviation sector with more than 65% market share. On Monday, the company had canceled more than 560 flights from six airports. DGCA also informed that the airline has increased its flights by about 9.66% compared to the winter schedule 2024, while an increase of 6.05% has been made compared to the summer schedule 2025. But the company was not able to handle this expansion smoothly, resulting in massive flight cancellations.

IndiGo CEO Peter Elbers said in a video statement released on Tuesday that the company’s operations are now slowly getting back on track. He said that full ticket fees are being refunded to passengers of canceled or delayed flights and refunds have also been sent to lakhs of customers. However, he did not give any clear information about the compensation, whereas as per the rules, if the information is not given within two weeks, the airlines have to compulsorily compensate the passengers.

Passenger problems and luggage situation

Peter Albers also said that most of the luggage stuck at airports has been delivered to customers’ homes. The team is working to send the bags that are still left soon. The company says that in the first phase their aim was to take the stranded passengers to their destination and after that the refund process was started.

According to the CEO, while the company was able to operate only 700 flights on December 5, the number of flights gradually increased in the following days to 1,500 on December 6, 1,650 on December 7, 1,800 on December 8 and more than 1,800 on December 9. By Monday, IndiGo was operating flights to all 138 destinations in its network and on-time performance was also returning to normal.

IndiGo Crisis: Due to the crisis on the country’s largest airline IndiGo, the government was forced to take action. Amidst the continuous cancellation of flights, increased fare prices and problems faced by passengers, the government even issued a show cause notice and fixed the fare cap. Meanwhile, rating agency Moody’s said that Indigo Crisis may have a major negative impact on the company in the coming days.

Negative impact on Indigo

The recent widespread disruption in flights may cause huge financial losses for the company due to revenue loss, fines and other compensation due to cancellation of flights. Moody’s Ratings said in a report released on Monday that the airline was not able to plan effectively for the new aviation rules implemented more than a year ago, due to which it is now suffering the consequences.

According to the rating agency, this situation is also negative for the reputation of Indigo. The chaos worsened amid the extremely busy winter flying season. The process of flight cancellations that started on December 2 reached its peak on December 5, when IndiGo had to cancel more than 1,600 flights. The airline has not yet been able to fully restore normal operations and more than 500 flights were canceled on Monday as well.

Damage to company reputation

Rating agency Moody’s further said that these irregularities could damage the company’s reputation, as IndiGo may face revenue loss, refunds, compensation to affected passengers and possible penalties by the DGCA. The agency cited the airline’s major lapses in planning, monitoring and resource management as the main reason for this, even though the industry was informed about the new rules long ago.

A new controversy related to flight safety has come to light in India. The Airline Pilots Association of India (ALPAI) has written a letter to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) objecting to increasing the Flight Duty Time Limit (FDTL) for Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. DGCA has recently changed the rules related to duty time limits for Dreamliner aircraft with two-pilot crew. According to the new rules, 10 hours of flight time has been reduced to 10 hours 30 minutes and 13 hours of duty has been reduced to 14 hours. The association says that this change is a matter of serious concern and may increase fatigue.

ALPAI, in its letter to DGCA, said that the already imposed limit of 10 hours was enough to increase fatigue. The pilots argued that there is no shortage of pilots in the country, hence there is no point in extending the deadline. However, the letter said that the Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) on Flight Duty Time Limit was based on scientific and international research, aimed at preventing performance degradation due to pilot fatigue. The policy was made in line with the recommendations and guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). ALPAI accused DGCA of Commercial airlines have focused more on convenience than safety.

FAA instructions and seat recline problems

In their letter, the pilots have also mentioned the recent directive of the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) FAA-2024-0218. Under this directive, the ability to recline the captain’s seat in the Boeing 787 aircraft has been banned for safety reasons. ALPAI said that this seat recline restriction makes it difficult for pilots to rest during long flights. This has a direct impact on their performance. In view of this situation, many airlines in the world have decided to include additional pilot crew in their Boeing 787 aircraft to reduce the risk of fatigue, but in India, DGCA on the contrary increased the duty period of the two-man crew, which according to ALPAI is not the right step.

comparison with international standards

Experts associated with the aviation world say that this change made in India’s FDTL standards is contrary to global standards. In America, Europe and Australia, flight duration and duty time are decided on the basis of fatigue. In these countries, three or four pilots are usually employed on long flights so that each crew can get adequate rest in between. Aviation experts believe that the two-pilot system in long-haul flights like Boeing 787 is risky in terms of safety. There is already additional pressure on pilots due to the recent increase in flight schedules in India and expansion of international operations.

Indian airlines are in discussion nowadays after the Air India aircraft accident. Sometimes due to technical fault in flight, sometimes due to delay. Meanwhile, another video of the flight on social media is becoming fiercely viral. However, this time the issue is neither delayed in flight nor technical fault. This time a flight is in discussion because an aunt has created a ruckus during the flight.

This video is spreading like fire on social media, in which a middle -aged aunt is raining heavily on the passengers traveling with them. His mercury has reached the seventh sky, which is not taking the name of being reduced even after all the efforts of all passengers from air hostesses. In the viral video, aunt is seen removing her anger on her son, who was sitting silently.

Khamkhan beaten poor

There is no information about which airlines this video is cutting on social media. However, it can be seen in the video that an Indian flight is packed with travelers. Passengers are waiting to fly, then an aunt comes as a disturbance in this flight. She confronts her co -passengers, after which there is a lot of uproar. Seeing the matter growing, the air hostess also comes in the middle and calm the matter, but the aunt comes in her rage avatar and shouts loudly. During this time, his son sitting in the next seat calls him to calm the case, but an angry aunt does not even notice that his son has no mistake in this and he gives five-six slap on him. After this, the poor person sits silently.

Indian airlines: Indian airlines may have to bear an additional expenditure of Rs 77 crore every week for international flights operated from northern cities of the country amidst increased tension with Pakistan. Due to the prohibition on the airspace, this will happen due to increasing consumption of aviation fuel and long flight duration.

Expenditure more than Rs 306 crore

An analysis of the PTI-language about the estimated expenses, as the number of foreign flights and flight periods increased, showed that the additional monthly operating costs of the airlines could be more than Rs 306 crore. The tension between India and Pakistan has increased due to Pahalgam terror attack. Meanwhile, Pakistan said on Thursday that it would prevent Indian Airlines from using its airspace.

Time is taking more than 1.5 hours

Adopting an alternative flight route is taking an additional time of up to 1.5 hours for international flights from Delhi and North Indian cities. Due to this, consumption of aviation fuel has also increased. A senior official of the airline industry, which has widespread experience in the commercial sector, said that North America’s 16 -hour flight will now take about 1.5 hours more. This 1.5 -hour additional flight will cost around Rs 29 lakh.

Similarly, on a nine -hour flight for Europe, it will take an additional time of about 1.5 hours and the cost will increase by about 22.5 lakh rupees. The official said that in the case of flights in West Asia, the extra time will be around 45 minutes and due to this the cost will increase by about five lakh rupees.

Airlines operate more than 800 flights in the week

According to the aviation analysis firm Sirium, Indian aviation companies are going to operate more than 6,000 flights unilaterally for various international destinations in April. According to these data, Indian airlines operate more than 800 weekly flights from North Indian cities to foreign destinations including North America, Britain, Europe and West Asia.

In this way, there are more than 3,100 flights on both sides in a month, and this number is around 800 on a weekly basis. According to the analysis, the total additional monthly expenditure will be around Rs 307 crore and Rs 77 crore on weekly basis. These figures are based on coarse estimates.

Pakistan airspace: India has taken some strict steps regarding the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir, so Pakistan has also retaliated on it. One of these is Pakistan’s closing its aircraft for Indian airlines. That is, Indian aircraft will not be able to fly over Pakistan and go to another country.

Aircraft have to take support of alternative route

However, due to this decision of Pakistan, Indian airlines have to bear an additional expenditure of about Rs 77 crore a week to operate their flights. Due to the closure of Pakistan’s air space, aircraft have to resort to an alternative route for the journey of many countries. Due to this, there is more expenditure on fuel and time is also taking more time. On the basis of the number of international flights from North India and the increased deadline, the news agency PTI said that the operational cost can sit more than Rs 307 crore in the month.

The journey is taking so many hours

Citing a senior airline executive, PTI said in its report, “International flights are now taking an extra time of 1.5 hours to go to North America. In such a situation, every flight can increase the cost of up to Rs 29 lakh due to untouched technical halt. This includes fuel, landing and parking charges.

European routes are also taking an extra time of 1.5 hours, which can increase the cost of up to Rs 22.5 lakh per flight. While the flights going to the middle East are delayed by 45 minutes, due to which an extra operation of about Rs 5 lakh per flight is sitting.

More than 6000 international flights

Data from Aviation Analytics firm Syrium shows that Indian aviation companies operate more than 6,000 international flights on the monthly basis. Of these, about 800 weeks of flights start from North Indian cities like Delhi and go to North America, Europe, Britain and Middle East.

Of these, about 1900 flights of the month are operated using Naro Body Aircraft (A320s, A321S, B737s) for the Middle East. According to PTI estimates, an extra cost of Rs 90 crore is sitting alone every month. For Europe and North America, wide body aircraft can cost the remaining 217 crores on long distance journey.
