In the year 2025, many Indian legendary cricketers have retired one by one. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have retired from the Test, Varun Aaron and Piyush Chawla have also retired. Recently, Cheteshwar Pujara has also said goodbye to his cricket career. Often, there will be a question in the minds of people whether players suddenly declare retirement, or there is a process to retire.

How do cricketers take retirement?

Whenever an Indian cricketer retires, he first has to inform the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Apart from this, the player also has to warn the team management and the head coach with his decision. On many occasions, cricketers directly contact the Chief Selector and say that they have made up their mind to retire. However, it is not necessary that the player has to give this information to the Chief Selector. But it is necessary to inform the board about this.

The cricketer’s decision to retire is completely personal. No coach, staff member or BCCI official can force the players to retire. Players can declare their retirement in many ways. Cheteshwar Pujara recently informed about retirement through social media. Prior to him, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli also announced his retirement from the Test on social media.

Apart from this, players can also announce retirement in a press conference. Ravichandran Ashwin confirmed his retirement at the press conference during the Australian tour.
