As violence spread in Bangladesh, protesters attacked the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chittagong late on Thursday night. Diplomatic tensions have increased further since former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power in last year’s rebellion. The security forces dispersed the huge crowd that was trying to storm the High Commission building.

Indian visa services suspended

According to the information given by the Central Government, due to a recent security incident at the Indian Visa Application Center (AHCI) located in Chittagong, Indian visa related operations at the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) Chittagong will remain suspended from 21/12/2025 till further orders. An announcement on reopening of the Visa Center will be made after reviewing the situation.

Uproar after the death of Osman Hadi

In recent days, protests have erupted near the Indian High Commission in Dhaka as well as subsidiary high commissions in Chittagong, Khulna and Rajshahi in Bangladesh, with demonstrators taking to the streets following the deadly attack on Usman Hadi last week. On Thursday, the India Visa Application Center (IVAC) in Dhaka, which was temporarily closed due to security concerns due to anti-India protests, resumed operations.

Anti-India protests continue

Located in Dhaka’s Jamuna Future Park (JFP), IVAC serves as the major integrated hub for all Indian visa services in the capital. Dozens of protesters attempted to march towards the office of the Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Rajshahi and demanded the deportation of all the killers, including Sheikh Hasina. Similar anti-India protests have been taking place in Dhaka and other places for some time.

Drinking water supply closed
The vendors who supply clean drinking water are also not able to give water to the mission. Due to this, employees have to resort to local tap water, which is not safe for drinking without special filtration.

Supply of newspapers also closed
To prevent the flow of information, local newspaper vendors have been instructed not to sell the newspaper to the mission. Indian authorities have considered it a prime step to keep diplomatic employees separate from local news.

Impact on Vienna Convention and Indo-Pak relations
Government sources said that all this weakens the violation of Vienna Convention as well as the delicate fabric of India-Pakistan relations. This strategy of Pakistan is part of the tricks to pressurize instead of traditional dialogues.

The organization has said that on April 23, their workers will hold a public meeting in front of the Indian High Commission and will raise their voice against the Waqf law. Along with this, they will also submit a memorandum to the officials of the High Commission.

The party’s rich Maulana Mamunul Haq said that the BJP government in India has been targeting Muslims for a long time. He has left his radical Hindu supporters on Muslims. During this time, the land of Muslims is being forcibly captured. Temples and other buildings are being built there by snatching the properties of their private and Waqf.

He said that even after this his greed did not end. Now the Waqf Amendment Bill of 2025 has been passed, which has given legal approval to these land occupations. We have already expressed our opposition and displeasure against these decisions. Muslims of India are protesting against this law. This bill interferes with the religious rights and rules of Muslims. Maulana Mamunul Haq said that the entire Muslim world should raise voice on the violence against Muslims in India.

‘The issue should be raised on international forums’

He said that the government of India and some media there are repeatedly propagating that minorities are being tortured in Bangladesh. In fact, due to the silence and indifference of the Bangladesh government about the violence on Muslims in India, India gets a chance to spread wrong information.

He said that the Bangladesh government should express its concern against the killing and atrocities of Muslims in India and oppose it. Also raised this issue vigorously in international forums such as the United Nations.

Relationship between India and Bangladesh is not better

In August last year, when the then Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and the interim government was formed under the leadership of Nobel Peace Prize winner Mohammad Yunus, since then activities against India in Bangladesh have increased significantly. There have been many incidents of violence against Hindus in Bangladesh in the last eight months. Along with this, many protests have also been seen against BSF near the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Mohammad Yunus has started strengthening relations with anti -India countries China and Pakistan. He also made a controversial statement about the north-eastern states of India in Beijing, the capital of China, on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised him to speak thoughtfully during the BIMSTEC conference in Bangkok recently. At the same time, former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina accused Mohammad Yunus of pushing the country towards terrorism.
