On July 29, an Indian couple was harassed by some youths and made racial comments in the parking lot of Lansdowne Place Mall in the city of Pieterbaro, Canada. Apart from this, he also threatened. The video of the incident became increasingly viral on social media, in which three youths sitting in a pickup truck are seen abusing the couple’s car.

The debate started when the Indian couple questioned the youths about the loss of their car. In response, the youth allegedly used derogatory words. The boys said that you are rubbish people, you are big nose. However, the limit was reached when a young man also threatened to kill the victim.

The video threatened and derogatory language
In one part of the viral video, a young man makes fun of the Indian person and says, “Hey, you know that it is not illegal to kill you by coming in front of your car.” Did I touch you Yes or no? Answer my question. You are an Indian bastard.

Police action arrested 18 -year -old accused
After investigation, Peterbaro police arrested an 18 -year -old youth from Kavratha Lex. He was accused of killing or threatening to kill physical harm and was released on undertaking. The accused is to appear in court on 16 September. Under the Canadian law, no hate crime was accused in this case, however, the police confirmed that the case would be considered in the court.

Police chief statement
Peterbaro Police Chief Stuart Bates said that anyone who has seen the video of the case will understand that such behavior is not acceptable in our community or in any community. He appreciated those who informed the police and urged the local people to report cases related to Hate Behavior. Bates insisted that such reporting is important in investigation and possible allegations.

Increasing concern in Canada over racial attacks
This incident can raise concerns about safety and racial discrimination among the Indian community living in Canada. If a person has come to Canada after 24 June 2020 and he has claimed asylum after more than a year, then he will not be approved now. This rule will apply to both students and temporary residents, whether they returned out of the country and returned again.

Claims of those who come illegally from America canceled
If a person comes to Canada from an authorized port through the US border and claims refuge after 14 days, then his case will not be accepted.

The claim will be heard only when he is present in Canada
It has been clarified in this law that the decision of asylum will be taken only when the claimant is physically present in Canada. The claim will not be heard while outside.

IRCC right to share students’ information
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will now get the right to share information related to students and documents with the country and regional agencies.
