Indian musician AR Rahman has been known for his unique tunes and creativity. But recently, when he presented his opinion regarding communal discrimination in Bollywood, he had to face massive criticism. Amidst all this, AR Rahman gave clarification by posting a video on Instagram.

In this video AR Rahman clearly expressed his feelings and his viewpoint. He said, “For me, music has always been a way to connect, celebrate and honor people and culture. India is my home, my inspiration and also my guru. My intention was never to hurt anyone’s sentiments. I can understand that intentions are sometimes misunderstood. I hope that people will understand and realize my sincerity and true intentions.

In the video, Rahman said, “I am proud to be an Indian.” India has given me the platform where I can showcase my creativity with complete freedom. This opportunity gives me the opportunity to honor the voices of different cultures and connect them through music. India has always inspired me and made my work more meaningful.

AR Rahman also mentioned many memorable projects of his career. “I worked on the Jala Project, created a string orchestra with Naga musicians, mentored the Sunshine Orchestra and founded India’s first multicultural virtual band called Secret Mountain,” he said. Also, I collaborated with Hans Zimmer on the music of Ramayana. All these experiences further strengthened my musical purpose.

At the end of the video, musician AR Rahman expressed his gratitude towards India. He said, “My music will always honor the past, celebrate the present and inspire the future. Music has never been a medium to hurt anyone, rather it has always been a medium to connect people and respect cultural heritage.

AR Rahman recently said in an interview given to BBC network, “I have started getting less work in Bollywood now. Sometimes the power to take creative decisions lies in the hands of people who do not actually have creativity. Sometimes this may also be due to communal reasons, but this is not directly known. It is only known in the form of rumors that I was selected in some project, but then the company hired five of its other composers.”
