The defense cooperation between India and the United States is about to achieve a new dimension amidst the tariff threats of US President Donald Trump. The deal of 6 additional P-8i Maritime Petrol Aircraft for the Indian Navy between the two countries is almost fixed. This deal is about 4 billion dollars. For this, a delegation of America will reach Delhi from September 16 to 19.

Important role of US delegation
This delegation will include officers of US Department of Defense and Boeing. In addition, officials of the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Navy International Program Office (NIPO), Maritime Petrol and Recognition Aircraft Program Office (PMA 290) and Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) will also participate in it. NIPO handles global maritime partnerships while PMA is helpful in 290 aircraft acquisition and support.

Indian Navy’s growing requirements
The Indian Navy currently has 12 P-8i aircraft. In view of China’s growing military influence in the Indian Ocean Region, the Navy needs 6 more aircraft to strengthen its surveillance and anti-Sabarine capacity. Apart from this, the Navy is also using MQ-9B drone, which will provide a total of 31 drones by 2029.

Technical characteristics and strategic importance
According to India Today report, P-8i aircraft are capable of long distance monitoring and detection of submarines. It can fly from a height of 41,000 feet and can cover a distance of up to 8,300 kilometers. It can also carry anti-ship missiles, cruise missiles, light torpedo and anti-sabmerine warfare charge. The MQ-9B drone will be helpful in the real-time surveillance of the Indian Ocean Region.

Indo-US relations are not affected
Recently, the high tariff imposed by the US on India for buying oil from Russia has not affected this defense agreement. In February, a joint statement released during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to America was clear that the deal is in the final stages.

The Indian Air Force is going to exercise about a three-day (till 19-21 August) of LoC adjacent to Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (August 19, 2025) amid the ongoing tension from Pakistan since Operation Sindoor. In this regard, the Indian Air Force has issued a notem.

This is the first time after Operation Sindoor that the Indian Air Force is going to do any exercise in Jammu and Kashmir. So far, the Air Force air exercises have been done in Gujarat and Rajasthan many times, but for the first time in the northern region.

IAF Did not give any information about exercise

No official information has been revealed by the Indian Air Force (IAF) about this exercise. But it is believed that Srinagar and Avantipura Airbase of Jammu and Kashmir can be involved in this exercise. A warning has also been issued for the areas of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh adjacent to Jammu and Kashmir in the notice to Airman (NOM) issued by the Air Force. In such a situation, it is believed that Ambala Airbase (Haryana) adjacent to Adampur, Halwara and Himachal in Punjab can also participate in exercise.

This poll will run from 1.30 pm on Tuesday (August 19) to Thursday (August 21) from 5.30 am. During this time, flying of any kind of civil or (of any other country) military aircraft in this area will be completely banned.

US Secretary of State expressed apprehension

At the same time, on Sunday (August 17, 2025), America’s Foreign Secretary (Minister) Marco Rubio feared a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Rubio had said that America, India and Pakistan are monitoring.

Pakistan’s 11 airbase in Operation Sindoor destroyed

The special thing is that since Operation Sindoor, many airbases of Pakistan have been closed and are not able to do the operation. Because the Indian Air Force had destroyed 11 airbase of Pakistan in its airstrikes. On August 16, the Pakistani Air Force issued a notice saying that Rahim Yar Khan Airbase is closed till 22 August. Because during Operation Sindoor, the runway of this airbase was destroyed by the Indian Air Force. Many feet deep pits were formed on the runway.

No fly zone declared 4,790 km in Indian Ocean region

Apart from the Air Force’s polls, India has also issued a notem for a long distance missile test on 20-21 August. In this poll, a no fly zone of about 4,790 km has been declared in the Indian Ocean region. The test will be conducted from the Odisha coast, in which a long distance missile will be fired from sites like Balasore and Abdul Kalam Island. It is estimated that this test may be for Agni-6 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) or hypersonic missile.

Referred to military tension between India and Pakistan
