• A person can carry a maximum of Indian currency up to Rs 25,000.
• This rule has been implemented under a notice issued by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Thursday.

Which notes are still banned?

• Old Indian notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 issued before 2016 will still be banned in Nepal.
• Taking these notes to or from Nepal does not come under the scope of permission.

• Nepalese citizens cannot bring Indian currency to Nepal from any country other than India.
• Similarly, taking Indian currency from Nepal to any other country except India is not allowed.
• According to the government, this new rule will be applicable only to people traveling and doing business between India and Nepal.

What are the rules regarding foreign exchange?

• Nepalese citizens and foreign travelers can bring up to US$5,000 or its equivalent in foreign currency into Nepal without customs declaration.
