A 25-year-old Indian student died while six others were injured in a road accident near Chicago in America. This was confirmed by the officials on Monday (May 18). According to the police, the accident occurred late Saturday night (US time) on the Interstate 65 highway near Crown Point in Lake County, Indiana.

Gadusu died due to serious injury

According to local media reports, the deceased student has been identified as Navya Gadusu. The Lake County Coroner’s Office confirmed that he was pronounced dead at 12:16 a.m. Sunday. Officials said Gadusu died due to serious injuries sustained in the accident. The Indian Consulate in Chicago expressed grief over the death of the student who lost her life in this accident and said that it is in constant touch with the victim’s family.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Indian student Navya Gadusu in a road accident near Chicago,” the embassy wrote in a post on social media platform X. We express our deepest condolences to his family and friends in this difficult time. The Embassy is in contact with the family of the deceased. We are also in touch with friends and community members who are assisting those injured in the accident.

Indiana State Police explained the reason for the accident

According to Indiana State Police, the accident occurred around 11:15 pm on Saturday night. Investigators reported that a red minivan carrying seven adults was traveling at a very slow speed of approximately 10 to 15 mph behind another vehicle, which reportedly had some technical failure.

Police said the driver of another car coming from behind did not understand the slow speed of the minivan and tried to turn left in an attempt to avoid the collision. However, officials said that the vehicle hit the left side of the mini van hard, causing the van to go off the road and fall into a ditch.

Officials clarified that the vehicle suffering from technical failure, which the minivan was following, was not involved in the collision. Additional information released during the investigation revealed that the minivan was equipped with only two front seats. Indiana State Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
