Meanwhile, Iranian forces have opened fire on an Indian flagged oil tanker passing near the Strait of Hormuz. After this incident came to light, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has summoned Iran’s Ambassador to India on Saturday (April 18, 2026), so that a formal protest can be lodged over this incident.

Iran’s Ambassador to India Dr. Mohammad Fatahali was called for a meeting at the office of the Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday (April 18, 2026) at 6:30 pm. During the meeting with the Iranian Ambassador, India expressed protest over the incident of firing on an Indian tanker in the Strait of Hormuz.

Two Indian ships were returned from the strait before the firing.

According to the information, a big Indian oil tanker was carrying about 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil on Saturday (April 18, 2026), during which this Indian tanker was targeted by the Iranian Navy in the north of the Gulf of Oman. At the same time, shortly before this incident, news also came out that two Indian ships, including Jag Arnav and Sanmar Herald, were forced to return from the Strait of Hormuz.

The Indian Navy is trying to find out more information about this incident, because none of its ships are present in the Strait of Hormuz. However, India has two destroyers, a frigate and a tanker deployed in the Gulf of Oman.

Conflict once again intensifies in the Strait of Hormuz

In fact, the British Navy said on Saturday (April 18) that Iranian gunboats fired on some ships trying to cross the Strait of Hormuz. It was also said that some merchant ships received a radio message from the Iranian Navy, stating that the strait had been closed again and no ships were allowed to pass through.
