The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is going to execute an important international commercial mission on Wednesday (December 24, 2025). The American company’s next generation communication satellite ‘Bluebird Block-2’ will be sent into space from the launch pad in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The launch is scheduled for Wednesday (December 24) at 8:54 am. Under this mission, ISRO will place the satellite in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) through its heavy rocket LVM3.

The American company’s satellite ‘Bluebird Block-2’ has been specifically designed to provide 4G/5G high-speed cellular broadband directly to smartphones around the world. This mission is part of a commercial agreement with US-based AST Spacemobile (AST & Science, LLC). The company is developing the first and only space-based cellular broadband network that will work directly on smartphones without any special equipment and is designed for both commercial and government uses.

Successful launch of satellite will benefit 6 billion mobile users

According to AST Spacemobile, after the successful launch of this satellite, about 6 billion mobile users around the world will be able to benefit from better connectivity. The company has already launched five satellites from Bluebird-1 to Bluebird-5 in September 2024, which have made continuous internet coverage possible in America and some other countries.

The company is planning to launch many more such satellites in the future to further strengthen its network and for this has partnered with more than 50 mobile operators around the world. According to ISRO, this is a dedicated commercial launch, which is being done under the agreement between New Space India Limited (NSIL) and AST Spacemobile. New Space India Limited is the commercial arm of ISRO based in Bengaluru.

Mission reflects the height of India’s space technology on the international stage

The Bluebird Block-2 mission is part of a constellation of satellites to be deployed in Low Earth Orbit (LEO), which aims to provide direct mobile connectivity through satellite. This mission not only reflects the global commercial capabilities of ISRO, but also gives new heights to India’s space technology on the international stage.

Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO)’s communication satellite CMS-03 (GSAT-7R), weighing more than 4,000 kg, was successfully launched and installed in space on Sunday (November 2, 2025). This CMS-03 satellite is the most advanced communication satellite of the Indian Navy so far, which has been launched from the Satish Dhanav Space Center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

ISRO said that this satellite weighing 4,410 kg is the heaviest satellite to be launched from Indian soil in Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). This satellite was launched through the LVM3-M5 rocket, which has been named ‘Baahubali’ for its heavy lifting capacity.

ISRO had posted the information

ISRO said in a post shared on social media platform X on Sunday (November 2, 2025), ‘Launch day of LVM3-M5. India’s heavy-lift spacecraft will be launched today on Sunday (November 2) at 5:26 pm on CMS-03. At the same time, an ISRO official had told PTI during the day on Sunday (November 2), ‘The 24-hour countdown started at 5:26 pm on Saturday and is continuing smoothly.’

He said LVM-03 is ISRO’s new heavy lift launch vehicle and will be used to place 4,000 kg spacecraft in GTO in a cost-effective manner.

The satellite has been completely designed in India

This satellite of the Indian Navy has been completely designed in India. Construction has also been done. This satellite will establish fast and secure communication between naval ships, aircraft, submarines and maritime operations centres. Along with this, the Indian Navy will also keep an eye on every action of the enemy in the maritime area.

This three-stage launch vehicle consisting of two solid motor ‘strap-ons’ (S200), a liquid propellant core stage (L110) and a cryogenic stage (C25) provides ISRO complete self-sufficiency in launching heavy communication satellites weighing up to 4,000 kg to GTO. LVM-03 is also called Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) MK3 by ISRO scientists. ISRO said that LVM3-M5 is the fifth expeditionary flight.

Then there will be document verification and medical examination of the candidates. After this, joining of the final selected candidates will be done. In this, basic pay will be given as per the post, in which monthly salary ranging from Rs 19,900 to Rs 1,77,500 will be given.

A historic moment is coming for India, when the Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will write a new chapter in space. Shubhanshu will be the first Indian to step on the International Space Station (ISS). Shubhanshu Shukla was born on 10 October 1985 in Triveni Nagar of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. He grew up in an ordinary family and made discipline and hard work a part of life since childhood.

He did his early studies from City Montessori School in Lucknow. He was then selected in the National Defense Academy (NDA) of Pune, from where he obtained a degree of Engineering (B.Tech). But it was not in his nature to stay here, he went ahead and also did M.Tech from IISc in Bengaluru.

Great military career

In 2006, Shubhanshu started his service in the Indian Air Force. He is an experienced fighter pilot and has so far flown many fighters and transport aircraft like MiG-21, MiG-29, Sukhoi-30 MKI, Jaguar, Hawk, Dornier and AN-32. In March 2024, he was ranked of Group Captain.

First step towards space

ISRO selected Shubhanshu in 2019 for astronaut training for the Gaganyaan Mission. He took rigorous training for about a year at the Yuri Gagarin Training Center in Russia. In February 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi included him among the four possible astronauts of Gaganyaan. Although the Gaganyaan Mission will be launched in 2025, Shubhanshu is being sent to space under the Axiom-4 mission before that. His call will sign in this mission – ‘Shux’.

Representation of both science and culture

A total of 60 scientific experiments will be done in the AXIOM-4 mission, out of which 7 are prepared by ISRO. Shubhanshu will take active participation in 5 of these, who are associated with NASA’s Human Research Program. Shubhanshu believes that this mission is not just his personal journey, but is representing the expectations and dreams of 140 crore Indians. He is also going to carry India’s culture, diversity and yoga in space. Shubhanshu is lovingly called ‘Gunjan’ in the family. His wife is a dentist and he has a four -year -old son. Shubhanshu follows strict diet and exercise routine to keep himself fit.
