Team India has been placed in Group A of the tournament. Apart from India, teams from Pakistan, America, Namibia and Netherlands are present in this group. India’s first match is against America on 7 February at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. After this the team will face Namibia on 12th February at Arun Jaitley Stadium. The match between India and Pakistan is to be held in Colombo on 15 February. The match between India and Netherlands will be played on 18 February at Narendra Modi Stadium. There are 4 groups in the T20 World Cup 2026 and the top 2 teams of each group will get a place in the Super-8.

Abhishek Sharma Retired Out In Warm Up Match: Team India played against South Africa last night i.e. on 4 February in its only warm-up match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. In this match, Ishan Kishan started the Indian innings with Abhishek Sharma. Against South Africa, Abhishek Sharma scored only 24 runs in 18 balls and then he left the field and returned to the pavilion. India won the toss and batted first and scored 240 runs for 5 wickets and restricted the Proteas team to 210 runs.

Why was Ishan Kishan retired?

In the warm-up match of the T20 World Cup 2026 played between India and South Africa, Ishan Kishan scored a explosive half-century and after that he retired out and returned to the pavilion. Ishaan decided to go out in 5.4 overs. During this period, he scored 53 runs in just 20 balls with the help of 2 fours and 7 skyscraper sixes. This is a common practice in warm-up matches so that more players can get a chance to bat or bowl and other players of the team can also get match practice.

Why did Abhishek Sharma retire out?

Abhishek Sharma was not in his rhythm during the practice match against South Africa. It is very rare to see that the teammate opening the innings with him scores a half-century and he is not able to score even 25 runs. However, this was seen in the warm-up match against South Africa. Ishaan scored a brilliant half-century in 20 balls, while Abhishek scored only 24 runs in 18 balls. After hitting 3 fours and 1 six in this innings, Abhishek decided to return from the field to the pavilion, because Abhishek was not able to time the ball.
