Indian Railways is bringing a big relief for the passengers! From January 2026, now you will not have to pay any cancellation charges for changing the date of confirmed ticket. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has announced this new facility, under which you can reschedule the date of your journey – without canceling the ticket. Till now, if for some reason the date of journey had to be changed, then first the ticket had to be canceled and then the new date. Tickets had to be booked for which a cancellation charge of more than 25% had to be paid. There was no guarantee of getting a new ticket, due to which passengers had to face a lot of trouble. With the new facility, passengers will be able to get tickets directly on the new date on the basis of seat availability. Yes, if the price of the new ticket is higher, then the difference will have to be paid. This change will provide relief to lakhs of passengers postponing their journey in emergency, and they will not have to spend a lot of money on tatkal tickets again and again. This facility of Railways is another strong step towards Digital India.

Now in the railway journey too, luggage rules like airlines have been implemented. A new rule has been implemented at Kanpur Central, Mirzapur, Aligarh, Prayagraj and Tundla stations in which the weight and size limit of luggage has been fixed. AC first class is allowed to carry 70 kg, 50 kg in AC Second, and 40 kg in Sleeper/Third AC. The General Coach has a 35 kg limit. If there is more goods than the fixed limit, you will have to pay fine and 6 times extra charge. Indian Railways Has Now Introduced Airline-Style Luggage Rules. New regulations have been enforced at stations like Kanpur Central, Mirzapur, Aligarh, Prayagraj, and Tundla. Each Travel Class Now Has a Luggage Weight and Size Limit – 70 kg for account class, 50 kg for ac second, and 40 kg for sleeper/third accountgers. For General Class Travelers, The Limit is 35 kg. If your luggage exceds the allowed limit, you may face a penalty and be charged up to six times the standard fee if not pre-booked in time.

If you travel long distances in mail/express or AC trains, your fare may be a bit expensive from 1 July 2025. But there will be no change for passengers traveling by local train daily. The Ministry of Railways will increase the fares of non-AC trains along with AC, which may be applicable from 1 July 2025.
