After the cancellation of a large number of Indigo flights and the sudden increase in ticket prices, the Aviation Ministry has taken a big step and imposed a maximum limit on the fares of domestic economy class flights. This decision has been taken for the safety of passengers and to stop excessive fare collection.

Government imposed cap on domestic flight fares
Amidst the IndiGo crisis and rising air fares, the government has set a maximum limit on domestic flight fares. This rule has come into effect immediately from 6 December 2025. The new prices are as follows:

1000–1500 KM ₹15,000
More than 1500 KM ₹18,000

The government has clarified that these fare limits do not include Airport Development Fee (UDF), Passenger Service Fee (PSF) and taxes. Also, this rule will not apply to business class and flights operating under the UDAN scheme.

IndiGo announces relief for passengers
Indigo has announced that cancellation charges will be completely waived on all tickets traveling from 5 December 2025 to 15 December 2025. IndiGo has also said that no additional charges will be levied on rescheduling and refunds will be automatically sent back to the passengers’ original payment mode. Passengers will not have to take any additional action for this process.

The situation of flight cancellations still continues
Although the situation is improving at some places, the process of cancellation of flights is still going on across the country. More than 1,000 flights remained closed on Friday and 550 flights were canceled the previous day. Improvement is visible in Delhi, but problems still persist in other airports like Thiruvananthapuram and Ahmedabad, where 9 and 19 flights were cancelled.

Government said- operations will be normal soon
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has said that flight operations are rapidly returning to normal and the chaos is expected to end to a large extent by Sunday. He said that a committee has been formed to investigate the causes of the problem, which is reviewing airline operations, scheduling and compliance with rules.

Indigo flight reached Raipur from Delhi. On Wednesday (June 18), the gate was locked for about 40 minutes. Former Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, MLA Chaturi Nand and Mayor Meenal Chaubey of Raipur were riding in the plane. The gate was locked due to the technical issue. The flight lands in Raipur at 2.25 am. After 40 minutes of hard work, all the passengers came out safely by opening the gate. IndiGo has regretted the statement.

On this, a statement issued by the Indigo spokesperson said, “” Indigo aircraft 6313, which was going from Delhi to Raipur on 18 June 2025, was late due to a minor technical problem in opening the aircraft door. The gate was opened after necessary investigation following safety procedures. We regret this inconvenience and appreciate the patience and understanding of our passengers. The safety of passengers and following the rules is our top priority. ”

What did the mayor of Raipur say?

Meenal Choubey, Mayor of Raipur Municipal Corporation of Chhattisgarh, claimed that the passengers kept sitting in the aircraft for more than 30 minutes due to not opening the door of Indigo aircraft who arrived at Raipur Airport. Choubey said that after landing at Raipur Airport at Raipur Airport at 2.20 in the afternoon, the door of the aircraft number 6 E-6312 remained closed for more than 30 minutes.

The mayor said, “When we asked the reason for the delay in opening the gate, the crew told us that there is some technical problem.” Choubey said, “The crew members of the aircraft were constantly trying to open the gate. After 30 minutes, we asked them to seek the help of people from outside (crew members). Then the people present on the ground opened the gate from outside, then we were able to leave. ”

Along with this, he told, “I went to Panchkula in Haryana to attend the conference of Mayor across the country. From there I reached Delhi and boarded the plane for Raipur. When the aircraft door did not open after reaching Raipur, we did not get scared, but even after the Ahmedabad incident, even small disturbances remind us of the tragedy.

Former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said at Swami Vivekananda Airport in Raipur that the passengers had to wait for 40 minutes, as the door remained closed. Baghel also reached Raipur from Delhi by this aircraft. Baghel told that the passengers came out safely after the door opened.
