IndiGo Flight Disruption: IndiGo, one of the largest airline companies in the country, is once again under the scanner regarding safety and compliance with rules. Aviation regulator DCGA has warned the airline against negligence in the rules related to handling of dangerous goods. DCGA’s investigation has revealed some cases in which prescribed security procedures were not followed.

After this action, the discussion regarding the safety of passengers has intensified. However, DCGA has not yet imposed any fine in this matter, but has warned to improve the rules and has sought an action taken report from the airline.

40 year drought ends! India-New Zealand prepared ‘Vision 2030’, there will be trade worth Rs 35000 crore, what agreements were made?

What is the whole matter?
The investigation conducted by DCGA has found some deficiencies in IndiGo’s engineering storage and handling process of dangerous goods. The investigation revealed that in some cases, rules and standard operating procedures for handling dangerous goods were not completely followed.

The airline also mentioned an incident in which a problem related to dangerous goods sent in flight came to light. After this, DCGA showed strictness regarding safety rules and instructed IndiGo to make improvements.

When did DCGA take major action against Indigo?

1. July 2026
DCGA found in a special audit that IndiGo did not fully follow certain safety rules and SOPs related to handling of dangerous goods. After this, a warning letter was issued to the airline and a report was sought after making improvements within a month. No fine was imposed in this case, only a warning was given.

Profit up to 83% in 1 year! Huge returns in foreign markets, Indian investors’ luck shines in these countries

2. January 2026
DCGA imposed a record fine of Rs 22.20 crore on IndiGo for cancellation and delay of thousands of flights in December 2025. The investigation found that there were serious deficiencies in operation planning, crew management and regulatory preparation. DCGA also asked for a bank guarantee of Rs 50 crore from the airline so that such a situation does not happen again in future.

3. October 2025
DCGA had imposed a fine of Rs 20 lakh on IndiGo for lack of compliance with the rules related to pilot training and Category C airport operation. The airline later said it would challenge this order.

4. December 2025
During the flight cancellation crisis, DCGA issued show-cause notices to senior officials including the CEO of IndiGo. Apart from this, special monitoring was kept on the airline’s flights, officers were deployed at the airport and operation control center and regular reports were sought from the company. This action later became the basis for a fine of Rs 22.20 crore.

Gold and silver both became cheap, know what is the rate of 18K, 22K, 24K in your city today

How much impact on the safety of passengers?
Following safety rules is considered very important in the aviation sector. Especially small negligence in proper identification, packing and transportation of dangerous goods can create a big danger. DCGA continuously monitors the airlines so that there is no gap in the rules related to passenger safety. The warning issued to Indigo is also a part of this monitoring.

A major incident related to Indigo airline has come to light on Friday (June 26, 2026) at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in the country’s capital Delhi, where passengers are accusing the airline of keeping them captive inside the plane and during this time many passengers present in the flight have also complained of suffocation.

Actually, passengers had boarded Indigo flight 6E-2614, which flew from Delhi to Ranchi from Terminal-2 of Delhi Airport, but the plane did not take off for a long time. During this period, even the AC was not switched on in the flight cabin. Due to which many passengers sitting in the plane started suffocating.

What allegations did passengers make against Indigo Airline?

The passengers allege that they were kept inside the plane without AC for more than an hour. Passengers say that whenever they complained about this to the cabin crew, they were repeatedly asked to wait for just five more minutes, but then there was no change in the situation and due to cold and lack of air in the closed cabin of the plane, people started suffocating.

According to sources, Indigo Airline said that there was some technical glitch inside the plane and the ACs were not working.
Aviation News: There is a war going on between Iran and US since February. The effect of which is being seen in many countries around the world. The situation is such that oil, gas and operational industries are being hit by inflation. Fuel prices are increasing, passenger numbers are decreasing, gas prices are increasing. In this way, this war is having a deep impact on every industry. There is a lot of fighting especially in the aviation industry.

The condition of aviation industry is bad
Aviation industry was performing very well in the last few years, this sector was getting a lot of boom. But due to the Iran war, the pace of this sector has come to a slight halt. These days many domestic and international airlines are going through difficult times. In such a situation, flights of many important airlines are being reduced. At the same time, the number of passengers is also being seen less on many important routes.

Also read: Hormuz Crisis: War flares up again between Iran and America, Hormuz is completely closed, know what effect it will have on your pocket now?

The biggest decline occurred on these routes
Seats at five of the country’s nine busiest airports have decreased in the first quarter of financial year 2027 as compared to last year. According to data from UK aviation analytics company OAG, the biggest decline has occurred on these routes:

There has been a reduction of 3.57 million seats in Hyderabad, due to which the maximum decline of 12% has been recorded.

Seats in Chennai have reached 2.48 million and there has been a decrease of 8%.

A decline of 2-3% was seen in Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Kolkata.

There was no change in Guwahati and Bengaluru.

So there has been an increase of 9.6% in Delhi and 6% in Pune.

Also read: Gold Price: Amid rising prices in India, know in which countries the cheapest gold is available, why there is this difference.

Effect of expensive ATF
Just as the prices of petrol and diesel are increasing across the country, similarly the prices of jet fuel i.e. ATF are also increasing. Due to which the flights have been reduced. Due to increase in fuel prices, flight fares have also been increased. This is also a big reason due to which passengers are avoiding traveling by flight. When the number of passengers is less, then the airlines also have less cost for maintenance, in such a situation there is no option left except canceling the flights.

Let us tell you that according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), between February and June, ATF prices have seen an increase of more than 52% globally. After which it became $146.25 per barrel.

IndiGo News: Taking a major decision on Tuesday, Indigo Airline has announced that it will temporarily stop its flight services to Manchester, UK from 31 August 2026. The company has cited restrictions on international air routes and rising costs as the main reasons behind this step.

Direct flights were running from Delhi and Mumbai

At present IndiGo is operating direct flights from Delhi and Mumbai to Manchester, but after the closure of the service, flights will not be available on these routes. The company has also said that after the closure of the Manchester service, it will also return the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft leased from Norse Atlantic Airways. This aircraft was an important part of the airline’s international operations.

Petrol-diesel will become costlier by Rs 2.5 more! Report released, prices have increased by 7.5% in four times

Dreamliner aircraft will also be returned

The company has also said that after the closure of the Manchester service, it will also return the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft leased from Norse Atlantic Airways. This aircraft was an important part of the airline’s international operations. IndiGo had started flights to Manchester in July 2025, which was part of its international expansion plan, but this service could not continue for long due to rising costs and airspace restrictions.

passengers will be affected

Due to closure of Manchester flight, passengers will face inconvenience and will have to resort to alternative routes. This may affect the travel plans of passengers. IndiGo will now focus on its other international routes and plans to strengthen its network. The company may also consider new routes in the coming time. The decision also reflects the impact of rising costs and restrictions on the global civil aviation sector, which is affecting many airlines.

IndiGo News: The country’s largest airline IndiGo has decided to temporarily stop flight services on some of its international routes. The company said that this decision has been taken in view of the possible decline in passenger demand and increasing operating costs.

Flights on these routes will remain canceled
According to the airline, flights operating to Langkawi, Krabi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Siem Reap are going to be cancelled. These flights will remain suspended from 1st July or 3rd July 2026 to 30th September 2026. During this period, no regular flight service will be available on these routes.

What did IndiGo administration say?
A statement has come from IndiGo on this matter, in which it has been said that the passenger demand for these routes in the coming quarter is likely to be less than expected. Not only this, fuel, airport fees and other operating expenses have also increased, due to which this decision has been taken. However, the airline has clarified that this decision is temporary and services on these routes can be restarted once demand improves.

The company is currently operating more than 1800 international flights every week and its services on other major foreign routes will continue as normal. In such a situation, this decision is expected to have limited impact on the total international network of the airline.

Indigo: The country’s largest airline company IndiGo has taken a big decision. Under this, the airline will temporarily stop its services to Manchester, United Kingdom from August 31. Behind this the company has cited increasing challenges and rising expenses regarding operations. This step has been taken at a time when the airline is struggling with financial pressures and operational disruptions related to restrictions on international airspace.

Problems increasing due to closed airspace

Due to the ongoing geopolitical tension in West Asia (Middle East), many countries have closed their airspace. These include countries like Iran, Kuwait, Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, which have imposed restrictions on their airspace in view of security risks. To avoid restricted airspace, planes have to fly over safe countries. Due to this, the distance of flights going to India and Europe increases significantly.

Difficulties faced by the company

The airline currently connects Manchester with both the cities of Delhi and Mumbai. These services were started in July last year. This was a part of IndiGo’s efforts to strengthen its long-haul international network. In a statement, the airline said, “Due to the ongoing restrictions in international airspace, the duration of flights has increased significantly and the cost environment also remains challenging. For these reasons, IndiGo has to temporarily stop operating its flights to and from Manchester from 31 August 2026.”

Overall, the company is facing many problems like increasing time in long distance flights, rising prices of aviation turbine fuel and transportation expenses due to foreign exchange fluctuations.

Will return the leased flight

As part of the restructuring of its long-haul operations, IndiGo will also return the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner leased from Norse Atlantic Airways. This decision will be difficult for the company. The company has already suffered a loss of Rs 2536.9 crore in the January-March quarter of financial year 2025-26, which is a big turnaround from the profit of Rs 3067.5 crore recorded in the same period a year ago.

Air India: The country’s two largest airlines – IndiGo and Air India are going to cancel about 250 of their domestic flights daily from June. The reason behind this is the skyrocketing prices of Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF- Jet Fuel) and decline in travel demand. This is putting pressure on the functioning of the airlines.

This reduction in flights is expected to continue from June to August, i.e. even in the summer months. Generally between June and August, the demand for air travel decreases after the summer holidays in schools end. Airlines companies are taking this step to balance this decrease in demand and increased expenditure on fuel. In such a situation, if your flight gets canceled in the meantime, you will be given the option of free date change, alternative route or full refund.

Record jump in jet fuel

Amidst the war between America and Iran and the ongoing tension in the Middle East, the supply of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz has been affected. Due to this, the price of jet fuel (ATF) has increased from Rs 80000 per kilometer to Rs 1 lakh per kilometer in many cities of India. Due to this, fuel has become costlier by about 25% for domestic flights and by almost 100% for international routes.

Which airlines are reducing flights by how much?

Air India is cutting its domestic flights by about 22% during June and July. The airline operates around 500 domestic flights daily, and this cut would mean around 110 fewer flights per day and around 800 less per week.

Similarly, Indigo is also going to cut its domestic flights by 5-7% and international flights by 17%. Including these two, approximately 250 flights will be canceled daily between June and August.

ATF Tax Relief: India’s two largest aviation hubs Delhi and Mumbai have made a major reduction in VAT on Aviation Turbine Fuel i.e. ATF. This decision is expected to provide relief to airlines from rising costs, especially at a time when global fuel prices, weak rupee and operational expenses are rising rapidly.

How much tax reduced in Delhi and Mumbai?

If we talk about tax, Delhi has reduced VAT on ATF from 25 percent to 7 percent. This relief has been implemented for six months. Whereas Maharashtra has reduced VAT on ATF for domestic flights in Mumbai from 18 percent to 7 percent. This decision has come at a time when airlines were struggling with rising fuel prices and had warned the government about increasing costs.

AITWA’s big decision: FAF implemented in freight rates, freight will increase if diesel becomes expensive

Fuel crisis increases the difficulties of airlines

The aviation sector is currently facing a huge fuel crisis. The Federation of Indian Airlines (FIA), which includes companies like Air India, Indigo and SpiceJet, had warned the government that many routes were becoming economically unprofitable due to rising fuel costs. According to FIA, earlier fuel cost used to be about 30 to 40 percent of the total expenses of airlines, but now it has increased to 55 to 60 percent.

impact of global stress

The impact of ongoing tensions in the Middle East and supply disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz was also visible on jet fuel prices. A large part of the oil and LNG supply around the world passes through this route. While at the end of February 2026, the price of jet fuel was around $99 per barrel, by May 2026 it increased to around $263 per barrel.

Why are Delhi and Mumbai so important?

According to figures disclosed by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport handled around 8 crore passengers in 2024-25, while Mumbai Airport handled 5.55 crore passengers in 2025 and recorded a movement of more than 3,31,000 aircraft. Most of the domestic and international flights in the country operate from these two cities. This is the reason why the effect of reduction in tax on fuel will be visible on the entire aviation sector.

Increasing consumption of ATF

The demand for ATF is continuously increasing in India. According to government data, about 764 thousand metric tons of ATF was consumed in the country in February 2026. Whereas in 2025, domestic airlines will carry about 167 million passengers. Amidst such huge demand, even a little relief in fuel prices can prove to be a big saving for airlines.

Gold loan craze is increasing amid rising gold prices, know which state is on top?

Increasing financial pressure on airlines

Airlines are already facing many financial challenges. Increasing lease rentals, shortage of aircraft, technical problems in engines, maintenance expenses and weakness of rupee against the dollar have increased the problems of the companies. Its effect is also visible on the performance of companies. Air India has stopped some international flights like Chicago, Newark and Shanghai, while the number of flights on many routes has been reduced. On the other hand, IndiGo’s net profit fell by about 77.6 percent in the third quarter of FY 2026.

There may be a reduction in fuel tankering

The reduction in ATF tax may also impact the fuel strategy of airlines. Till now many airlines adopted fuel tankering strategy. That is, she used to get more fuel filled at low tax airports so that she does not have to take fuel again at expensive airports. However, this increased the weight of the aircraft and affected the fuel efficiency. Experts believe that due to lower taxes in Delhi and Mumbai, the need for such strategies will reduce.

Will air tickets be cheaper?

There is less possibility of passengers getting cheap tickets immediately after the tax cut. Fares in Aviation Sector: Fares in the sector are not determined only by cost, but demand and supply also play a big role in it. At present, passenger demand remains strong, while flight capacity is limited due to shortage of aircraft and technical problems. In such a situation, airlines will first try to reduce their financial pressure.

States will suffer revenue loss

This decision will also cause loss of revenue to the state governments. Delhi government estimates that it may suffer a loss of around Rs 985 crore due to VAT cut. Maharashtra is expected to suffer a revenue loss of Rs 550 to 600 crore annually. After this, both the governments believe that this step will help in maintaining their cities as strong aviation hubs.

Demand to bring ATF in GST intensifies

Amidst this entire issue, the old demand of the aviation industry has once again intensified that ATF should be brought under the ambit of GST. At present, different VAT is applicable on ATF in different states and airlines are not able to avail the benefit of input tax credit. The industry believes that if ATF is included in GST, fuel costs can be stabilized across the country.
