The continuously increasing cold and dense fog in Delhi is beginning to have an impact on air operations. Delhi Airport officials said that due to dense fog and low visibility at Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday (December 15, 2025), there are a lot of problems in aircraft operations. Due to this, a total of 228 flights were cancelled, while five flights were diverted.

According to Delhi Airport officials, out of the total 228 flights that were cancelled, 131 flights were scheduled to depart from Delhi, while the destination of the other 97 flights was Delhi Airport i.e. they were included in the incoming flights, but on Monday (December 15) morning, visibility became very low due to dense fog in the national capital New Delhi. Due to this reason all flights had to be cancelled.

At the same time, keeping in mind the problems being faced by passengers due to the operation of aircraft, the Ministry of Civil Aviation issued a travel advisory on Monday (December 15, 2025). In this, the Ministry requested all the air passengers to check the latest updates regarding flight status from their airlines before leaving their homes for the airport.

There was chaos at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) in the country’s capital Delhi on Friday (November 7) when a sudden technical glitch in the air navigation system affected the operations of the entire airport. Due to this disturbance at IGI, which is counted among the busiest airports in the world, about 800 flights were delayed and thousands of passengers had to wait at the terminal for hours.

According to sources, this technical flaw in the Air Traffic Control (ATC) system was so serious that both flight landing and takeoff were affected for some time. Many planes were kept in holding patterns in the air, while some had to be diverted to nearby airports. The problem was resolved at around 9 pm, after which flight movements gradually started becoming normal. It is a matter of relief that there was no major accident with any aircraft.

Passengers expressed displeasure

Expressing their displeasure, the passengers said that they were not informed about the situation for several hours. At the same time, passengers of many domestic and international flights were stopped at the gate as runway operations were temporarily stopped.

Where did the problem come from?

The Airport Authority and DGCA immediately deployed technical teams to handle the situation. The failure was related to the navigation data server, causing disruption in communications and navigation systems. During this time the airport staff tried to solve the problems of the passengers.

Advisory issued at around 11:55 pm

In an advisory issued at around 11:55 pm, Delhi Airport Management said, “All flight operations have now become normal. Passengers can travel without any worries.”

Flight operations were severely affected on Friday after a major technical glitch in the AMSS system at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, due to which more than 200 flights were delayed. Earlier it was told that this has affected Mumbai Airport also, however later Mumbai Airport Authority said that advisory was issued to the passengers by mistake.

AMSS failed at Delhi airport

As soon as the AMSS system crashed at Delhi Airport, the air traffic control had to leave the automatic mode and work manually. Due to this, the data of each flight had to be processed manually. Distance calculations of the planes also had to be done manually and coordination had to be done through voice communication, due to which the operation of flights became much slower than usual.

Delay of more than an hour at Delhi airport

At present, there is an average delay of 62 minutes i.e. more than an hour in the departure of flights at Delhi Airport. According to data from Flightradar24, this delay has increased after a technical glitch in the air traffic control system. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has said that its teams are busy fixing the AMSS (Automatic Message Switching System), which supports ATC data. There are approximately 1,500 flight movements daily at Delhi Airport. Under normal conditions, 60-70 flights take off and land per hour. In such a situation, due to automation failure, the backlog of flights increased rapidly and the delay extended for several hours, the effect of which was seen in the entire network.

Mumbai Airport issued clarification

Mumbai Airport (MIAL) said that the advisory issued earlier was issued by mistake and was a human error. The airport clarified that all flight operations here are running completely normal and smoothly.

What is AMSS system?

AMSS is the system that sends flight plans, weather information, and other technical data between ATC and airlines. Once it fails, controllers have to enter all the data manually, which makes operations extremely slow and significantly affects flight time.

AAI issued advisory

Airport Authority of India issued a statement saying that due to AMSS malfunction at Delhi Airport, flight operations are getting delayed and the controllers are processing all the plans manually. Technical teams are continuously working on restoring the system. Passengers have been advised to stay in touch with their airlines and keep checking updated schedules.

Advisory issued for the convenience of passengers

Authorities have requested passengers to keep checking flight information from their respective airlines, be prepared for possible delays and follow instructions given at the airport. The situation is being monitored in both Delhi and Mumbai so that the system can be normalized as soon as possible.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad has demanded to change the name of Delhi. It has been asked to change the name of Delhi to Indraprastha. Vishwa Hindu Parishad has written a letter to Delhi Government Minister Kapil Mishra demanding that the name of Delhi be changed.

It has been said in the letter from VHP that, to connect the national capital with its ancient history and culture, the name of Delhi should be changed to Indraprastha. Apart from this, VHP has made other demands in the letter. In the written letter, there is also a demand to change the name of Indira Gandhi Airport to Indraprastha Airport.

VHP demands changing the name of Delhi

Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Delhi state secretary Surendra Kumar Gupta has written a letter to Delhi government minister Kapil Mishra. In this letter, a demand has been made to change the name of the national capital Delhi. It has been said in the letter that the name of Delhi should be changed to connect the capital with the ancient history and culture of India. Delhi should be named Indraprastha.

Let us tell you that for many days there has been an uproar regarding changing the name of Delhi. This demand has been made many times by Vishwa Hindu Parishad. Praveen Khandelwal, MP from Chandni Chowk, had said a few days ago that, in the coming times, we will not listen to the Delhi government but to the Indraprastha government, this is our aim.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad put forward many demands

In the letter written to Minister Kapil Mishra, a demand has also been made to change the name of Indira Gandhi International Airport. The name of the airport should be changed to Indraprastha Airport. Whereas Delhi Railway Station should be changed to Indraprastha Railway Station and Shahjahanabad Redevelopment Corporation should be changed to Indraprastha Redevelopment Corporation.

Regarding changing the name, it was said in the letter that the name of Delhi should now be changed. Because the capital connects to the old history and culture.

Air india flights canceled: The operation of Air India has derailed since the plane crash held on Thursday (June 12, 2025) in Ahmedabad. On Tuesday (June 17), 9 flights from Dubai, London and America were canceled to Dubai, London and America, which has increased the troubles of passengers. Among the canceled flights, 6 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which fell victim to an accident in Ahmedabad.

The flights from London to Amritsar and Air India from Bangalore to London were canceled. After the Ahmedabad plane crash, AI 171 was closed by AI 171, after which its name was changed to AI 159.

Passengers had to land in Kolkata due to flight malfunction

Air India flight from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi to Paris was also canceled on Tuesday, as there was some problem in the aircraft during the investigation before the flight. Apart from this, the engine of Air India, going from San Francisco to Mumbai, also caused technical fault in the engine, due to which the passengers had to get off the aircraft in Kolkata on Tuesday.

These flights of Air India were canceled due to technical reasons

Flight AI 180 from Air India’s San Francisco coming to Mumbai came to Kolkata, but could not go to Mumbai from there and had to be canceled.

How many flights were canceled in 3 years?

The cancellation of Air India flight is not new. In the Rajya Sabha, on 25 November 2024, the government was given data for cancellation of flights from 2022 to 2024. According to government data, 122 of the 87191 of Air India in 2022 were canceled after a technical fault.

In 2023, 181 of 105999 flights were canceled after a technical fault. Out of 110351 flights in the year 2024, 107 flights were also canceled for this reason. In 2024 itself, 936 of Indigo’s 492746, 305 of Spice Jet’s 35208 and 41 of Akasa Air’s 33204 flights were canceled due to technical fault.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) of Delhi, the capital of India, has now joined the list of top airports in the world. Airports Council International (ACI) recently released 2024 air connectivity rankings, which includes Delhi Airport in the top 10 hub airports in the Asia-Pacific and Middle East. This list shows which airport flights are available for how many cities and how easy transit is.

Delhi gets only space from India

Only Delhi Airport has got a place from India in this list. This means that Delhi Airport has now become India’s most important center for international flights.

How many cities are connected to Delhi Airport?

Delhi Airport is currently connected to 153 cities. It has 81 domestic cities (such as Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata) and 72 foreign cities (such as Tokyo, Washington, Bali, Montreal, Chicago)

What has been changed at the airport?

New buildings and facilities have been added at the airport. Now holding international flights from international has become easier and faster than before. Biometric machines have been installed for e-visited passengers, which takes less time for immigration.

 Dial’s CEO said?

Videha Kumar Jaipuriyar, CEO of Dial, a company running Delhi Airport, said to the media, “& ldquo; It is a matter of great pride for us that Delhi Airport is being counted among the top hubs in the world.” We will give better facilities in the coming time. & Rdquo;

The number of transfer passengers doubled

The number of passengers transferred from Delhi Airport has doubled in the last 10 years. Every year about 40 lakh people go abroad by catching domestic flights from Delhi. India’s 88 percent long distance flights and 56 percent international flights fly from Delhi.

 Delhi will be built & lsquo; Global Gateway & Rsquo;

Airport operator says that now India’s airlines are also using big ships, which is making Delhi a big air transit hub in the world. This success of Delhi Airport is not only from Delhi but from all over India. Now it has become easier to go to any corner of the world from India and now Delhi is becoming its center.

World Busiest Airports: If you have recently passed through Delhi Airport, then you must have felt its speed, technology and beauty. Now the whole world is accepting the same thing. Actually, Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) of Delhi has now come in the list of top 10 most busy airports in the world.

Where did Delhi Airport reach from where

In 2019, Delhi Airport was ranked 17th in Airports Council International (ACIE). Then reached 13th position in 2021 and in 2023 at number 10. Now it jumped in 2024 and has secured 9th position. This is a historical achievement.

According to reports, 7.7 million passengers traveled from Delhi Airport in 2024. A total of 9.5 billion passengers traveled airwarts worldwide in 2024, which is 9 percent more than 2023. Meaning people are now flying on a large scale again.

What are the reasons behind this flight of Delhi Airport?

There are many reasons behind this jump of Delhi Airport, in which infrastructure makeover, global connectivity and commitment to the environment are prominent. Actually, smart techniques like new terminals, expansion of runway, face recognition and automated baggage system make it special at Delhi Airport.

Apart from this, flights are available from Delhi directly up to more than 150 international destinations. That is, the world is getting closer now from Delhi. At the same time, Delhi Airport has also won the sustainability front. Renewable Energy, Carbon Neutral Gols and International Certification have made it more luxurious.

Another honor to Delhi Airport

In early 2024, Delhi Airport was also voted the Best Airport of Asia-Pacific for the 7th time. Getting the Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Award shows that Delhi Airport is number one not only in the crowd, but also in quality.

Smart Police Booth: In the country’s capital Delhi, a big step has been taken keeping in mind the technology and security. The country’s first state-of-the-art “Smart Police Booth” was dedicated to passengers from Sunday at Terminal-3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).

This revolutionary initiative was inaugurated by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena. This initiative is not just a facility, but a symbol of the new thinking of Delhi Police. Such thinking that wants to attack crime by making technology a weapon and gives citizens a comfortable, accessible and safe environment.

Passengers will get 24×7 smart security

Now there is no need to visit the police station for any problem at the airport. The facilities present in this booth allow passengers to register an e-FIR, report missing goods and get essential information, that too through interactive touch screen panel. This booth is not just an information center, but also a real-time security monitoring unit, where important areas of the terminal are being monitored through CCTV cameras. Computers, printers, scanners, high-speed internet and trained policemen everything is hi-tech and high-speed here.

Strong steps towards Digital India

During the inauguration, the Lieutenant Governor said that this smart booth is not just a post, but a glimpse of future policing. This initiative is the best example of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Digital India’ and ‘Smart Policing’ vision on the ground. Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora presented a plant as a memory to the Lieutenant Governor, which was a symbol of commitment to both the environment and security.

Women safety and empowerment also priority

On this occasion, trainers who have imparted self -defense training were also honored, who are working closely with the Delhi Police to make women employees working around the airport self -reliant. This step is not only limited to law and order, but also in the direction of social empowerment.

Smart Police Booth A Vision, A Change

This smart police booth of Delhi Police is a clear indication that security is no longer limited to patrol and gun, now it is an era of data, digitization and efficiency and this era has started today from IGI Airport. This can show a new direction not only to Delhi, but the police system of the entire country. It is expected from this initiative of the capital that in the coming time, such smart booths will be seen in other airports and public places in the country.
