An AIIMS study found azoospermia (absence of sperm in the sample) and OATS syndrome, such as lower than normal sperm count, mobility or size, were the most common causes of male infertility among men.

When should one get tested?

Experts advise couples that if they are unable to conceive even after trying for a year, then men should also get themselves tested immediately. For correct assessment, three different semen reports at an interval of 2 to 3 days are considered necessary. In the normal report, volume more than 2 ml, count more than 20 ml, motility more than 50 percent and normal forms more than 30 percent are considered standard.
