Reasons For Male Infertility: In the last few years, cases of infertility among men are increasing rapidly and its direct impact is visible on young couples thinking of starting a family. People believe that infertility is only a women’s problem, but men are responsible for about 40 percent of the total infertility cases in the country. Along with this, the reasons related to women are also around 40 percent, while 10 percent such cases have been seen in which the problem is on both sides and the remaining 10 percent remains completely unexplained.

Why is infertility increasing in men?

The biggest cause of male infertility is decreasing sperm count, its motility and morphology. A 2022 global meta-analysis found that between 1973 and 2018, men’s average sperm concentration declined by a massive 51.6 percent. The World Health Organization has also changed its scale and has now considered 15 million sperm (ml) as the lower limit of normal limit, whereas earlier this limit was considered to be around 40 million (ml).

What do experts say?

Experts say that today not only sperm count but also its quality has become a big challenge. With increasing age, the ‘biological clock’ in men also shows effect, due to which the quality of sperm DNA decreases and the health risks for the future child can also increase. Late parenthood, stress, irregular lifestyle, smoking, alcohol, poor eating habits and long working hours cause severe damage to sperm.

What came out in the study?

Apart from this, recent studies have found that air pollution, microplastics, nanoplastics and chemical exposure are having a serious impact on the male reproductive system capacity. Chemicals like BPA, phthalates and many pesticides disrupt the natural balance of hormones and reduce testosterone, which affects sperm production. PM2.5, heavy metals and free radicals present in smoking damage sperm DNA. An AIIMS study found azoospermia (absence of sperm in the sample) and OATS syndrome, such as lower than normal sperm count, mobility or size, were the most common causes of male infertility among men.

When should one get tested?

Experts advise couples that if they are unable to conceive even after trying for a year, then men should also get themselves tested immediately. For correct assessment, three different semen reports at an interval of 2 to 3 days are considered necessary. In the normal report, volume more than 2 ml, count more than 20 ml, motility more than 50 percent and normal forms more than 30 percent are considered standard.

What is the treatment?

Problems like blockage in the reproductive tract can be cured by surgery. In many cases, it is possible to become a father with the help of only one sperm through assisted reproductive technology like IUI or ICSI.

Sperm Donation Process: Sperm donation has become an important process in today’s time. This is a ray of hope for those who are unable to get child happiness. Single women, gay couple and infertility couples can complete their family’s plans through sperm donation.

Qualification and health to give sperm

To give sperm in sperm bank, first you have to check your qualification and health. In this, your age, physical and mental health, family history and lifestyle are assessed. Usually, healthy men aged 18 to 39 are eligible for sperm donation. The lifestyle of the donor should be healthy, which should not consume smoking, alcohol and drugs.

Process of donation

In the process of donation, you are first given medical advice. Doctors ensure that you are prepared physically and mentally for this process. After this your sperm is sample and tested. In this test, the number, speed, size and other biological properties of sperm are examined. If your sample is eligible according to the standards, it is preserved.

Collection and use of sperm

During donations, the sperm is kept in liquid nitrogen so that its quality remains for a long time. It is later used in procedures such as IVF (in vitro fertilization) or IUI (intrauterine inscription). The donor has to sign a legal agreement, in which it is clarified that the donor will not have any right over the child. At the same time mental counseling is also given so that the donor can understand the emotional aspects related to this process.

Expenditure and compensation

Talking about spending in sperm donation, the donor is compensated for this. In India, the donor usually gets Rs 1,500 to 4,000 rupees per donation. At the same time, for a person receiving from sperm bank, a sperm viil costs between 8,000 and 20,000 rupees. This price depends on the donor’s profile, education, blood group and other properties.

Major sperm banks and facilities

There are many major sperm banks in India that make this process safe and transparent. These banks provide facilities and guidance for both donors and recipients. For the donor, it is not only a social service, but also mental satisfaction.

Through sperm donation, the donor contributes to the society and causes the happiness of a family. However, it is necessary to understand all health and legal aspects before donation. The correct information and responsibility donation is not only safe, but it also proves beneficial for the society. If you are a healthy, responsible and helpful person, sperm donation can be a suitable option for you. This process brings the joy and hope of building a family in the society.

The era may have come in the 21st century, but it is still considered a shame to say ‘child is not happening’. Even today, there is no open talk on this, neither in the house nor in the society. However, the reality is that fertility in women is declining rapidly and there are many reasons behind it.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 18.6 million people worldwide are struggling with infertility in some form or the other. The rate of primary infertility in India also ranges from 3.9% to 16.8%. At the same time, this rate is even higher in some states like Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. On the one hand, technology has increased breeding options, but due to reasons like lifestyle and mental health, the natural fertility edge of women is being affected.

Late marriage and postponement of becoming a mother

Today’s women are giving priority to career, self -reliance and other targets of life, which is absolutely right. However, the truth is that after the age of 35, the egg quality and number of women start declining. According to Dr. Reema Sirkar, Clinical Director of Indira IVF in Dehradun, after the age of 35, the probability of pregnancy decreases by 25 %. At the same time, after the age of 40, it remains only 5-10 %.

Hormonal Disbalance and Changing Lifestyle

Polycystic ovary syndrome, thyroid, irregular periods and obesity affect the condition fertility. Today’s runaway routine, junk food, lack of sleep and stress are promoting these problems. If BMI (body mass index) is above 25 or below 19, then the possibility of delay in pregnancy increases.

Effect of stress and mental pressure

Women passing through IVF are common problems related to stress, depression and sleep. In a study, it was found that women who had more mental strengths, they experienced less stress and better mental state in the first attempt of IVF. If the first attempt fails, then stress and sadness increases.

Social expectations and loneliness

‘When will the child be?’ This question still has to face every married woman. This pressure of the society and the silence of the family makes women mentally tired. According to a study, women who got social and family support reduced the possibility of depression by 25 %.

Myths and misconceptions

Many people still believe that if one child has been done then the other will happen on its own, but secondary infertility is also a big issue. Also, thinking that infertility is only the problem of women is a very dangerous myth. Statistics show that men also have a role in 30–50% of cases.

What should women take care of?

Every woman has a different fertility journey. If this path is easy for someone, then for some, full of emotional and physical challenges. However, knowing and understanding these things in time can be beneficial.

After the age of 30, monitoring the fertility can be a sensible step.
Do not delay if the periods are irregular or have problems like thyroid, PCOS.
Basic things like healthy diet, regular sleep and stress prevention also have a big impact on the body.
Taking timely information about options like IVF or egg freezing is not a hurry, just understanding.

In today’s era, infertility has emerged as a big challenge, due to which many couples are not able to get the pleasure of becoming parents. In such a situation, modern assembled reproductive technologies like these vitro fertilization bring a ray of hope for them. IVF has completed thousands of families, but with the rapidly growing expansion of the region, some immoral and professional practices have also emerged, which raise serious questions about the rights of patients and misuse of their body parts, especially eggs and sperm. Today we will talk on this serious topic and know what you should take special care of while doing IVF, so that you should not take special care of your biographical materials, so that you do not have any fraudulent.

Take special care of these things

Choose a reliable clinic: First of all, you should ensure that the clinic is registered and recognized under the Assisted Reproductive Technology Act, 2021 of the Government of India. The Act controls the operation of IVF clinics and donor centers. Take complete information about the success rate of the clinic. Also, keep complete transparency about the total cost of treatment, hidden costs and payment schemes. Also ensure that the clinic has experienced and board-certified breeding endocrinologists and other experts.

Documentation and Consent: Your written consent is very important for every stage of the IVF process. Especially if egg donor or sperm donor is being used. Get complete and clear information about your procedure, medicines and potential risks from the clinic. Explain that egg and sperm donation is an anonymous process in India, but confirm the age of Donor (between 23 and 35 years), health and other basic norms from the clinic.

How to avoid fraud?

If a clinic or agent guarantees a very low cost or a very high success rate, be cautious. 100% success in IVF cannot be guaranteed. Avoid illegal egg donor centers, which are running without registration or include minors in this process. In some unfortunate cases, incidents of changing samples of sperm or egg have come to light. The choice of a reliable and morally working clinic is very important. Such fraud has been revealed through the DNA test. If you are asked to buy unnecessary tests or expensive medicines, consider taking another opinion.
