In 2025, there has been a stir in the technology industry once again. Legendary companies like TCS, Microsoft and Intel have said goodbye to their thousands of employees and the biggest reason for this is being given the increasing role of AI and automation. According to industry experts, this trend is intensifying due to “AI Restructure” or “AI Transformation”, where many old roles have now become non-essential.

How many people took out which company?

TCS has confirmed that it will pruning about 12,200 employees in this financial year. These are mostly happening in mid and senior level positions, especially the rolls where traditional skills or non-AI tasks were included. The company’s focus is now on projects with AI and new technology. At the same time, Microsoft has evacuated around 15,000 people in 2025, the highest trimmed in July. Microsoft says it is investing in addition to cloud, AI and automation sector, which has reduced positions in old sales, support and gaming divisions.

Talking about Intel, the company has started the process of trimming up to 25,000 people. Intel said that due to slow profit growth, semiconductor markets and reality in AI projects, they have to decrease workforce. In July alone, more than 5,000 employees have been removed.

Why is AI and automation being trimmed?

This time not only in these three companies, but also big names like Google, Amazon, Meta have also trimmed thousands of people in 2025. The reason is clear – AI, workflows shifting on machine learning and automation. Companies are now preparing more automated, future-red work processes than manpower, which are reduced to manual, representative and old technology rolls.

Who is the most damaged?

Market trends show that mid and senior level employees are the most affected, especially those who have not yet learned skills such as AI, data, machine learning or cloud. Apart from this, in the global market including India, this wave has reached IT, support, project management and even gaming divisions.

American technology company Intel plans to reduce its workfoses more than 20 percent. It aims to eliminate bureaucracy and balance the management. This will be the first major restructuring since the new Chief Executive Officer of Intel, Bu Tan last month.

Bloomberg news Report In a source who has been aware of the company’s plan, it has been told that Intel’s target is to recreate the focus on engineering. Last year too, the company had informed about retrenchment of about 15,000 workers. The total number of workers of Intel is around 1,08,000. The company’s stock has declined by about 43 percent in the last 12 months. Intel’s stock closed at $ 19.50 on Tuesday. In the last few years, rivals like NVIDIA have made a dent in the company’s stake in the market of semiconductors.

It is also lagging behind in the segment of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The company’s sales have declined in the last three years. Tan, who spent many years in the Cadence Design Systems, has planned to separate Intel’s assets that are not according to their vision. Last week, the company informed about selling 51 percent stake in its programmable chips unit Altera to Silver Lake Management.

In a recent conference, TAN said that Intel needs to improve its balance sheet and improve the manufacturing process. The company’s first quarter results will be announced on Thursday. However, analysts believe that the worst phase of revenue reduction has passed for the company. About two years ago, Intel cut the salary of management and senior staff including CEO. The decision was taken due to a decrease in the company’s revenue and profit. The company’s mid-level workers were deducted about five percent in the base pay and 25 percent for the then Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger. Apart from this, there was a 15 percent reduction in the salary of the company’s executive leadership team.

Samsung has now emerged as the world’s largest semiconductor manufacturer in 2024. Whereas in 2023, Intel won this. The Korean Tech giant won the largest 10.5% share in the market with a total revenue of $ 66.5 billion last year. Due to the increase in the price of memory chip, the company made a strong growth of 62.5 percent in its shipment year after year.

Report AccordingFrom Samsung Dram, HBM and Nand to CPU and GPU chips, the main supplier of various chips has been. However, due to the problem of overheating with Samsung’s HBM memory chips, the company had to lose contracts with some high-profile clients such as NVIDIA, with great demand in AI GPU manufacturing.

The case has allegedly resolved and Samsung has already received NVIDIA certification, which will increase Samsung’s sales even more this year. Nevertheless, Samsung is having some difficulty in refining its 3Nm process. It is slightly behind by other chip manufacturers like TSMC. So it is trying to bring 2Nm chips to the market early next year.

Samsung came to the first time in 2024 with a 10.6 percent stake in 2024 last year. Intel has come second with 7.9 percent stake. NVIDIA finished third with a 7.3 percent stake. SK HYNix stood fourth with 6.8 percent stake. Qualcomm has made its place in the top 5 with 5.3 percent stake.

Micron Technology has secured the sixth number with 4.4 percent stake. Broadcom was at number seven, with a market share of 4.4 percent. At the same time, AMD got the eighth position with 3.8 percent stake. Apple came with three percent stake at number nine. Lastly, Infineon Technologies achieved tenth with 2.6 percent stake. Overall, these 10 companies have managed to hold 43.9 percent stake.
