More than 8 lakh 40 thousand people die every year

According to the new report of ILO, every year more than 8 lakh 40 thousand people across the world die due to work-related psychosocial risks. These risks include problems like long working hours, job uncertainty and office harassment. This report titled ‘The Psychosocial Working Environment: Global Developments and Pathways for Action’ states that these risks are linked to heart disease, mental distress and even suicide.

The report also says that this problem is not only affecting the health of employees but also the productivity of organizations and the global economy. About 45 million DALYs (disability-adjusted life years) are lost every year and about 1.37 percent of global GDP is affected due to these causes.
