IMF Loan to Pakistan: International Monetary Fund i.e. IMF has given big relief to Pakistan. IMF has approved new financial assistance of about 1.32 billion dollars for Pakistan. This approval has been given despite India’s objections. India had raised issues related to terrorism financing and regional security in the IMF board meeting, but even after this Pakistan got approval to release this fund.

This approval has been given after the completion of the first review of Pakistan’s economic reform program under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) program of IMF. According to Reuters report, Pakistan will get about $1.1 billion under EFF and $220 million under Resilience and Sustainability Facility.

SBI’s mega loan blast, bank will distribute loans worth Rs 80000 crore, more than 1 crore people will benefit

Total aid increased to $4.8 billion

Let us tell you that after this new approval, the total amount received by Pakistan under these two programs of IMF will increase to about 4.8 billion dollars. IMF says that Pakistan has shown progress in stabilizing its economy and implementing necessary economic reforms.

Why was help given to Pakistan?

According to IMF, Pakistan has shown improvement on many economic fronts in recent months. These include such as…

reduction in inflation rate

improvement in foreign exchange reserves

improving fiscal discipline

implementing economic reforms

IMF said that after going through a serious economic crisis, Pakistan’s economy is now slowly getting back on track.

IMF gave advice

IMF has clearly told Pakistan that to maintain economic stability it will have to continue reforms. This includes…

increasing tax collection

reducing energy sector losses

maintain tight monetary policies

control inflation

India had expressed objection

India had expressed concern in the IMF board over repeated financial assistance given to Pakistan. India said that this funding could be misused and could affect regional security. However, the IMF Board approved the review despite these objections.

Pakistan LPG: In Pakistan, people are cooking food by filling gas in balloons, how much is the price of LPG cylinder there now?

Pakistan welcomed the decision

Pakistan government welcomed the IMF’s decision and said that this will strengthen the country’s foreign exchange reserves, will also give impetus to economic reforms and increase the confidence of investors. Along with this, Pakistan also said that it will continue to implement the reforms decided by IMF.

IMF Growth Prediction for India: Amidst the tension in the Middle East, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said something, which is not good for the entire world. Actually, IMF has cut the global growth rate estimate. It has also been said that the world is already moving towards a very unfavorable situation.

The situation may worsen further

The growth rate may be quite weak due to disruptions in shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. There is great uncertainty about the conflict in West Asia among the finance ministers and governors of central banks from around the world gathered during the Springs Meetings of the IMF and the World Bank in Washington. In such a situation, the IMF has presented three development scenarios – weak, worse and severe – which will depend on which direction the war progresses.

‘Good news’ for India

Let us tell you that the previous estimate of IMF regarding the global growth rate in 2026 was 3.3, which has now been reduced to 3.1 percent. However, for India it has been increased to 6.5 percent from the earlier estimate of 6.4 percent. The reason for this is the huge reduction in American tariffs and strong domestic demand, which outweighs the ill effects of the war between America and Iran. Let us tell you that under a trade agreement between India and America, the tariff on Indian goods has been reduced from 50 percent to 10 percent.

Additionally, both domestic consumption and demand in India remain strong, acting as a buffer against global shocks. Inflation is also under control in the country and the government has given relief from the rising prices of crude oil. IMF has considered this as positive for the Indian economy.

Middle East Crisis: Ever since America and Israel attacked Iran in February, there has been turmoil in the rest of the world. Although the war is being fought in Western Asia, no one is untouched by its flame. People are waiting for a solution to be found immediately and things to come back on track. However, there is no scope for relief right now. We are not saying this, but giants like IMF, World Bank and International Energy Agency have warned about this.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank issued a joint statement in Washington today, April 14, warning that fuel and fertilizer prices may remain high for a long time due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. This is being considered as the third major blow to the global economy. Before this, the global economy had already faced two major shocks in the form of Corona epidemic and Russia-Ukraine war.

These issues were discussed during the Springs Meetings of IMF and World Bank. The Springs Meetings of IMF and World Bank are held every year in April in Washington because the headquarters of both are here. In this, finance ministers and governors of central banks from around the world gather every year to discuss economic challenges. This time there were discussions on the war between Iran and America and the global energy crisis arising from it.

war all around

In a joint statement here, the three institutions said that the war has led to forced displacement of people, has affected jobs and has also led to a decline in tourism. It may take time to heal. “As noted earlier this month, the impact of the war is large, global and highly uneven, disproportionately affecting energy importing countries, particularly low-income countries,” the statement said.

The statement noted that due to this shock, prices of oil, gas and fertilizers have increased, which has also increased concerns about food security and loss of jobs. In the past, some oil and gas producers have also suffered huge losses in export revenues.

The effects of war will last for many years

The ongoing tension in the Middle East is causing disruptions in shipping on the Strait of Hormuz. IMF chief Kristalina Georgieva warned that the impact of this disruption in energy supply will be felt for the next several years. Due to this war, there has been a huge increase in the prices of fertilizers. The price of urea has increased by about 46 percent in March 2026. Due to this, food security is looming around the world.

The threat to emerging economies is even greater

In view of the war, the inflation forecast for the emerging economies of the world has been increased from the earlier 3 percent to 4.9 percent. In the worst case it can go up to 6.7 percent. The World Bank has also reduced the growth rate estimate for developing economies from 4 percent to 3.65 percent. Just before the release of IEA’s Monthly Oil Market Report and IMF’s World Economic Outlook, the heads of the three institutions shared their latest assessments.

“We also discussed the situation in the countries most affected by this shock, as well as the responses by our institutions. Our teams are working closely together – including at the country level – to leverage our respective expertise to assist countries with tailored policy advice and, in the case of the IMF and the World Bank, to provide financial assistance where needed,” the statement said.

Pakistan: The condition of Pakistan’s economy is no longer hidden from anyone. Pakistan itself knows how far its race lies. Despite this, Pakistan never lags behind in making big boasts. In this sequence, a statement of Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif is going viral rapidly, which is like daydreaming.

Pakistan is day dreaming

In fact, in a program of Geo News on Tuesday, Khawaja Asif said that Pakistan will not need help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the next six months. According to a report by Geo TV, Pakistan’s Defense Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that the orders for aircraft to Pakistan have increased after the clash with India with ‘Operation Sindoor’ in May. Making a strange claim in the programme, Asif said that during the war between India and Pakistan in May 2025, the whole world saw the determination of Pakistan and the strength of its army.

Pakistan defeated by Indian Army

The reality is that India had defeated Pakistan in ‘Operation Sindoor’. In this, the Indian Army had targeted terrorist bases in Pakistan and PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir). Nine terrorist hideouts of Pakistan near Muridke, Bahawalpur and Lahore were completely destroyed. These were the same locations where Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists were trained.

More than 100 terrorists were killed in this operation. 11 airbases of Pakistan like Mussaf, Noorkhan and Bholari were also damaged. 6 Pakistani fighter jets and 2 AWACS (Airborne Warning System) and a C-130 transport vehicle were also destroyed during this period. From this it can be understood that Pakistan was no match for the Indian Army and India’s defense system, but it seems that Khwaja Asif is far away from reality.

Where is so much confidence coming from?

In fact, recently Bangladesh Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Marshal Hasan Mahmood reached Pakistan and during this he showed interest in purchasing JF-17 Block-3 fighter aircraft from Pakistan.

Apart from this, Reuters has said in its report quoting two Pakistani sources that there are also reports of talks between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia to convert the loan of about $ 2 billion into JF-17 fighter jet deal. Perhaps because of these, a clear glimpse of over-confidence is being seen in Pakistan.

Pakistan’s economy depends on IMF

To bring its country’s weakening economy back on track, Pakistan has extended its hand to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) not once but many times. Pakistan has a debt of 7.41 billion dollars, due to which it is at third place among the most indebted countries in the world. Argentina is at number one and Ukraine is at number two.

In September 2024, the IMF had approved a bailout of $7 billion for Pakistan under its Extended Fund Facility (EFF). After this, a separate loan of $1.4 billion was given under its Climate Resilience Fund in May 2025. Its objective was to strengthen the economic stability and climate resilience of the country.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), crying about the economic situation of his country, appealed to the IMF managing director Christalina Georgree for mercy. The country, which always cry about the economic situation, has made an excuse for flood this time. The Prime Minister of Pakistan has urged the IMF to take into account the economic situation of his country before the review of the IMF on Thursday (September 25, 2025).

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said on Wednesday (September 24, 2025), “Whatever commitments are being done with the Pakistan International Monetary Fund (IMF), continuously fulfilling them, but IMF is urged to take care of the damage caused by the recent floods in his upcoming review.”

UNGA Shahbaz Sharif commented during the 80th session

Shahbaz Sharif made this comment during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. The 7 billion bailout package given by the IMF i.e. Expended Fund Facility (EFF) is to be reviewed on Thursday (September 25, 2025). The fund was approved in May 2025. This review will assess Pakistan’s performance for the 2025 March-June quarter.

There was a second review about this in August, but Pakistan had failed to achieve three targets. The Finance Ministry had stated in its financial report that no provincial government could achieve the target of savings of 1.2 trillion Pakistani rupees. At the same time, Pakistan’s total fiscal deficit was 5.4 percent (6.2 trillion rupees) of GDP, below the target of 5.9 percent of the IMF.

Imf 50 conditions were placed in front of Pakistan for bailout package

The IMF laid around 50 conditions under the Bellout Package, some of which are reviewed on quarterly and annual basis and the approval of the next $ 1 billion installment to Pakistan depends on these.

A report by Pakistan’s brokerage house topline securities claimed that Pakistan is on the way to fulfill all the seven quantitative performance norms (QPC) set by the IMF.

Pakistan’s Information Department issued a statement

According to Pakistan’s leading media group Dawn, the Pakistani Information Department (PID) issued a statement after a meeting between Prime Minister Shahbaz and Georgiya. It said that Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif urged in the meeting that it would be better if IMF reviews the impact on Pakistan’s economy due to the recent floods. According to PID, Georgiya expressed her condolences to all those affected by the floods.

World Bank on Rising Poverty in Pakistan: The whole world knows about Pakistan’s financial condition. The Pakistani government is begging the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and many countries of the world to run their country’s expenses. On the other hand, the government does not have money to feed the citizens of its country, but it has to fight the war with India.

Amid the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, a report of the World Bank has now surfaced, Pakistan’s financial condition has been completely exposed. According to the World Bank report, General Sales Tax (GST) has the biggest role in increasing poverty in Pakistan, while the country’s poorest families have been the greatest impact in reducing the inequality of the monthly Cass transfer program.

The report of the World Bank titled ‘The Effects of Taxes and Transfers on Iniv ways and Poverty in Pakistan’ stated that GST payment in Pakistan is more than 7 percent of the pre-tax expression. This is the reason that the situation of poor and weaker sections in Pakistan is getting worse.

Pakistan’s GST is the reason for increasing poverty in the country

Pakistan’s newspaper Don on Sunday (May 25, 2025) cited the report of the World Bank, saying that when an individual fiscal instrument estimates the marginal contribution of an individual fiscal instrument or a marginal contribution of a marginal contribution of individual fiscal instruments, the effect on the poverty or inequality, when all the fiscal instruments are mixed together, it is clear. That GST has the biggest role in increasing the poverty of the country. Apart from this, it was also told in the report that the second biggest impact on inequality in the country is due to the expenses incurred on pre-primary and primary education.

To reduce inequality in the country Bisp effective

At the same time, Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), which provides monthly cash assistance to the poorest families, has proved to be the most effective in reducing inequality in Pakistan. According to the report, BISP does the largest marginal contraction in reducing cash transfer inequality.

International Monetary Fund: Pakistan was given a financial assistance of $ 1 billion recently under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under an extended fund facility of $ 7 billion. Apart from this, funding of $ 1.4 billion was also given under the Climate Rejylines Loan Program. Now according to the report of Reuters, Pakistan can get a loan again from the IMF. It has also been confirmed by the International Monetary Fund that the next funding for Pakistan is to be reviewed in the second half of 2025.

This is Pakistan’s goal regarding economy

On behalf of the IMF, it has been said that their top project is to keep inflation in the Medium Term Target Range of State Bank of Pakistan 5-7 percent. Its purpose is focused on the ongoing economic stabilization efforts in the country.

According to the IMF, Pakistani officials have also expressed their commitment to managing the country’s revenue properly. Under this strategy, the government there is carrying a target of keeping GDP surplus 1.6 percent in FY 2026. To achieve this, it is necessary to ensure massive economic stability. GDP surplus means production in the economy, being higher than consumption.

IMF completed Pakistan’s staff tour

IMF is helping Pakistan in this era of increasing inflation, declining foreign reserves, declining local currency in this era of economic upheaval so that the falling economy there can be brought back on track.

The IMF also said on Saturday that they completed their staff tour of Pakistan. During this period, Pakistan officials were discussed with the budget proposal of FY 2026, economic policy, reforms from funding. The IMF has also talked with Pakistani officials to continue the matter towards agreed on the budget in the coming days.

International Monetary Fund: Despite the refusal of India, in May 2025, when the IMF approved the second installment of $ 1 billion to Pakistan under the extended fund facility of $ 7 billion, it had to face a lot of criticism. Along with this, $ 1.4 billion was also given to Pakistan under the Climate Rejylines Loan Program.

During this time, India kept itself away from voting at the IMF board meeting. At the same time, the argument about this funding of IMF has been- Pakistan’s track record of IMF programs is poor and Pakistan can use these money to support terrorism. Now after all, the IMF has broken its silence on this. The IMF explained why Pakistan was given financial assistance despite India’s opposition?

That’s why IMF helped Pakistan

The IMF reported that the financial assistance given to Pakistan was part of the previous agreement and it was followed by general procedures. Julie Kosec, director of the Communications Department at IMF, said, “The Executive Board of IMF approved Pakistan’s EFF program in September 2024 and the first review done at that time was planned for the first quarter of 2025.” According to the same timeline, on March 25 of 2025, the IMF staff and Pakistani officials signed a staff-level agreement on the first review for EFF. Then that agreement was presented before our Executive Board and our Executive Board completed its review on 9 May, after which Pakistan was funded.

IMF cleaned

Julie further said, our Executive Board found that Pakistan has completed all the fixed reforms on time. The country has also taken some important steps towards economic reform. Due to this, the board approved the next installment of bailout.

Where do IMF come from money?

Along with this, there is another question, which will often come to our mind that where does the IMF who helped the countries struggling with the economic crisis come from? Let us also give you information about it today. IMF has three sources to get money.

The first is that when the IMF gives loans to a country, it also charges interest on it. Apart from this, it also charges some fees- it is a source of its earnings.

Many times the money near the IMF falls short, then it takes loans from other rich countries so that a needy economy can be helped.

IMF is an organization of 190 countries. When a country joins it, then he has to deposit a fixed amount in it. This is called quota. Every country puts money in this quota system according to its economy. The largest contributor (about $ 83 billion) in the IMF is the US.
