The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and several senior police officers of West Bengal. ED says that during a raid its officers were misbehaved and evidence was snatched. ED has demanded to hand over the investigation of this case to CBI.

ED accuses Bengal government of assault

A total of 6 people and institutions have been made defendants in the ED petition…

In the petition, ED has said that during the raid at Prateek Jain’s house, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee herself reached there with the police. The documents which were seized by ED officials were snatched away. Officials’ laptops were also forcibly taken away. ED officers were threatened and attempts were made to assault them. ED alleges that this is a clear case of theft, robbery, dacoity and tampering with evidence.

Allegations of forcibly registering FIR from the state police

ED has also said that to intimidate the ED officers, an FIR has been lodged against them by the state police. Senior police officers of the state are involved in the case and Mamata Banerjee herself is the Home Minister. For this reason the ED did not go to the state police to lodge an FIR. ED has demanded from the Supreme Court to order CBI to register a case in this matter. Also, Mamata Banerjee should be warned not to do such things in future.

It is also mentioned in the ED petition that Mamata Banerjee has been taking such action in the past also to put pressure on central agencies and even courts. ED says that this affects the investigation and violates the law.

A total of two petitions were filed by ED

The first petition is in the name of ED, while the second petition is on behalf of three ED officers involved in the raid on Indian Political Action Committee (IPAC) – Nishant Kumar, Vikram Ahlawat and Prashant Chandila. These officers were present during the raid and the incident that happened to them has been mentioned in the petition.

Political stir intensifies due to ED’s petition

This matter is related to ED’s investigation in West Bengal, where political turmoil has intensified. The Supreme Court can hear this petition soon. ED has said that this is an attack on the independence of investigation and justice is being demanded. No official statement has come yet from the West Bengal government or Mamata Banerjee.

According to sources, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee intervened during the ED raid on the premises of I-PAC on Thursday (January 8). Mamta Banerjee took the phone of I-PAC official Prateek Jain in her hand on the spot and kept it with herself.

This entire incident came to light when ED in Kolkata raided the premises of political consulting firm I-PAC as part of a money laundering investigation. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has reacted sharply to this and has accused TMC of theft of documents.

Threat of arrest to ED officials
Not only this, sources also say that the DGP told three ED officers not to record anything in the Panchnama and to show that nothing has been recovered. If not then they will arrest the ED officials. ED officials say that there were three ED officers at that time while on the other hand dozens of police officers and the team of Z Security given to the CM were present.

‘Forced to make changes in documents’
According to ED sources, an attempt was made to intimidate the officers and prevent them from writing the real thing in the report. Sources also claim that the DGP told the ED officials that now we will file an FIR and arrest you people. Sources say that independent witnesses were also present there. Kolkata Police and CM’s staff also tried to harass and intimidate him. According to sources, Enforcement Directorate officials say that they faced pressure and threats throughout the operation and were forced to make changes in official documents under pressure.

What did Mamta Banerjee say
At the same time, Mamata Banerjee rejected the ED’s statement outright. He claimed that the ED was trying to seize internal data, hard disks and strategy documents related to the election planning of Trinamool Congress, which had nothing to do with the money laundering investigation. Mamta termed the raid politically motivated and called it unconstitutional and an attempt to seize party data.

They had hatched a similar conspiracy in Jharkhand also and they got success in Jharkhand. I Pack is not a political consultancy firm.
