I don’t want you to make all this in India.” Trump said that India is a high -tariff country, so it is not easy to sell goods in the Indian market.

Why Trump does not want Apple to invest

During the US presidential election campaign, Trump promised to bring manufacturing jobs back to his country. Apple is now increasing production in India by reducing its dependence on China. In recent years, the company has been working very closely with its partner FixConn, Pagratron and Tata Electronics to increase the production of iPhone in India rapidly. From April of 2024 to March 2025, Apple has created an iPhone of 1.83 lakh crore in India. This is about 60 percent more than last year.

15 percent manufacturing of total production in India

About 15 percent of the total iPhones made by Apple was prepared only in India, which was sent to other markets around the world including America. In March of 2025, 3 million iPhones from India were exported to America. To increase Apple’s production in India, Foxconn has recently invested $ 1.5 billion. In such a situation, more Apple production in India will mean to reduce its risk from tariff stress between America-China.

Apple’s important supplier FoxConn has invested a huge invested of $ 1.24 billion, or about Rs 12,800 crore for the operation of its plant in India within the last five days. This investment has been made in Tamil Nadu Unit of FoxConn K, FoxConn, Ujhan Technology (India) Private Limited. The investment by the company was made at a time when Apple is moving forward to shift China’s own business to India under a big plan. Also, she is trying to increase its production with fast.

Big investment in apple

Apple CEO Tim Cook recently announced that most of the iPhones sold in the June quarters in the US would be made from India, while the phone made in China will be sent to other markets of the world due to uncertainties on tariffs. During the financial year 2025, FoxConn’s income from India was almost doubled $ 20 billion (1.7 lakh crore), which is especially due to increased production of iPhone. According to an estimate by S&P Global, Apple has sold around 759 lakh phones in the US market in the year 2024.

Rapid production capacity being increased rapidly

Only about 31 lakh phones have been exported from India in the month of March. In such a situation, to further increase exports, the company will either have to increase its production capacity or produce from another unit.

The government estimates that about 15 percent iPhone of Apple is made in India. Apple is trying to increase it to 6 crores during this financial year. Earlier, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav had said that during FY 2025, a record number of mobiles were exported from India, in which 1.15 lakh iPhones were exported.

Due to the tariff, Apple has made a plan to shift the main manufacturing hub China to India. After a confrontation between Washington and Beijing, Apple has planned to shift his business to India. About 300 to 500 iPhone units can be produced in the plot. According to media reports, the iPhone 16 and 16E will be produced in it.

According to reports, the plant is expected to be fully operated by December 2027. When this plant will run with full capacity, then about 50 thousand new jobs are being estimated to produce.
