There was a lot of demand for uncapped players in the IPL 2026 auction. Chennai Super Kings caught everyone’s attention by bidding Rs 14.2 crore for India’s rising stars Karthik Sharma and Prashant Veer. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad surprised everyone by bidding Rs 3 crore on an Australian uncapped player. After all, what did SRH see in Edwards that the team bought him for 6 times more than the base price.

25-year-old Jack Edwards is an Australian all-rounder who can bowl powerful medium pace as well as bat. The base price of Edwards in the auction was Rs 50 lakh and Chennai Super Kings were the first to show interest in him. Gujarat Titans also bid up to Rs 1.50 crore on Edwards, but Chennai continued to bid for him. Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad jumped into this race, ahead of which CSK pulled out after a bid of Rs 2.80 crore. Finally SRH included Edwards in their team for Rs 3 crore.

What is the specialty of Jack Edwards?

The bidding on Jack Edwards went up to Rs 3 crore, there are many aspects to this. This Australian player is not only a strong batting and bowling player but is also an excellent fielder. SRH can also invest their money in him for several seasons, because Edwards can also prove to be a future captain. Edwards has captained the Australian team in the Under-19 World Cup, showing so much maturity at such a young age proves him to be a very special player.

Jack Edwards has so far taken 34 wickets in 64 matches in his T20 career and has also scored 761 runs in batting. He is coming off a strong performance in Australia’s domestic Sheffield Shield Trophy red-ball tournament. In the first match of the current season of BBL, he scored unbeaten 46 runs in 21 balls for Sydney Sixers, while he also took one wicket in bowling.

The IPL 2026 auction has proved to be unpredictable, with Cameron Green becoming the most expensive foreign player in auction history, while on the other hand, many big-name stars have remained unsold. Apart from Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw, many international stars have also gone unsold in the auction. Australia’s legendary player Steve Smith has also not found any buyer, while no one has bought Jonny Bairstow either.

Many famous Indian players were also included in the list of players who remained unsold. No one bought all-rounder Vijay Shankar, while no one bought spin bowler Karn Sharma, who was a part of the four-time IPL winning team.

On the other hand, the names of Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw were present in the set first, yet they could not find any buyer. The base price of both the Indian batsmen was Rs 75 lakh. Devon Conway and England’s legendary batsman Jonny Bairstow also did not find any buyer.

Sarfaraz Khan remained unsold in the first set of IPL 2026 auction, but he was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the second set. After this, CSK bought Rahul Chahar for Rs 5.2 crore, his base price was Rs 1 crore. Rachin Ravindra was also sold in the second bid, he was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders.

Sarfaraz Khan’s comeback

Sarfaraz Khan was bought by Chennai Super Kings for his base price (Rs 75 lakh). Sarfaraz has not played in the last 2 IPL editions, he was last part of Delhi Capitals in 2023. Sarfaraz has played for 3 teams (RCB, PBKS and DC) in IPL since 2015. In 50 matches played in IPL, he has scored 585 runs, he has been able to score only one half-century. If we look at his IPL record, he is still in search of his dream IPL season.

CSK also bought Rahul Chahar

Spinner Rahul Chahar was a part of Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last edition, although he got to play only 1 match. In that too he had bowled only 1 over. Before Hyderabad, he has played in Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians. He made his IPL debut while playing for Rising Pune Supergiants.

The base price of Rahul Chahar in the IPL 2026 auction was Rs 1 crore. His former franchise Punjab Kings also wanted to buy him, which went up to Rs 5 crore for him. But Chennai Super Kings included Chahar in their team by bidding Rs 5.20 crore. Chahar has taken 75 wickets in 79 matches played in IPL.

KKR bought Rachin Ravindra

New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for his base price. Rachin’s base price was Rs 2 crore, when his name came up, KKR made the first bid. Apart from them, no other team showed interest in buying Rachin. Rachin has scored 413 runs in 18 matches for CSK in IPL.

Regarding Josh English, it was believed that hardly anyone would buy him in the IPL...

Regarding Josh English, it was believed that hardly anyone would buy him in the IPL 2026 auction. In fact, even Punjab Kings did not leave him, because he played an important role in taking the franchise to the finals last season. But he had told that he will be able to play only 4 matches in IPL 2026, despite this he got a huge amount in the auction. He has been bought by Lucknow Super Giants.

When Punjab Kings released their retention list, everyone was surprised to not see the name of Josh Inglis. Actually, English had performed well last year, with the help of which the team reached the finals. Later it came to light that English had told that he would be able to play only 4 matches, so Punjab released him. Then the reason behind this was also revealed as to why England would be able to play only 4 matches.

Josh English sold for 8.6 crores

The base price of Josh Inglis was Rs 2 crore, but it was believed that all the franchises could avoid betting on him. But on the contrary, he got a huge amount. Lucknow Super Giants bought Inglis for Rs 8 crore 60 lakh. Sunrisers Hyderabad was also continuously increasing its bid to buy wicket-keeper batsman Inglis, he had reached Rs 8.40 crore.

Why will England play only 4 matches in IPL 2026?

Josh Inglis will get married during the IPL 2026 season, due to which he had already told that he will not be able to play all the matches of IPL season 19. He will be able to play only 4 matches, for which he had kept his base price at Rs 2 crore. It was expected that hardly anyone would buy the team, but on the contrary, they also got a huge amount. Lucknow Super Giants bought him for Rs 8 crore 60 lakh.

Josh English made his debut in IPL last year. In the 11 matches he played for Punjab Kings, he scored 278 runs with a strike rate of 162.57, which included a half-century.
