The mini auction of IPL 2026 was surprising in many ways. While on one hand the franchises spent a lot of money on uncapped players, on the other hand there were some veteran players who were sold at very low prices. Looking at the experience and record of these players, it was believed that they would get big bids, but the picture appeared different on the auction table.

david miller

Experienced South African batsman David Miller was bought by Delhi Capitals for his base price of Rs 2 crore. Miller, who has played more than 140 matches in IPL, has scored more than 3000 runs and has shown his ability to finish matches many times. Despite this, no big bid was made on them.

ben duckett

England’s aggressive opener Ben Duckett also came into the account of Delhi Capitals. He was also bought at the base price of Rs 2 crore. Duckett is known for scoring runs quickly in limited overs cricket and has a good record in the T20 format. In such a situation, this deal is considered beneficial for Delhi.

Sarfaraz Khan

The auction journey of Sarfaraz Khan, who scored consecutive runs in domestic cricket, was the most interesting. No team bought him in the first round, but in the second round, Chennai Super Kings included him in their team at a base price of Rs 75 lakh. Considering Sarfaraz’s batting ability, this deal is being considered quite cheap.

quinton dekock

South African wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock was bought by Mumbai Indians for just Rs 1 crore. De Kock is a big name in international cricket and his performance in IPL has also been excellent. Getting such a player at such a low price is like a jackpot for Mumbai.

sky lamp

Indian fast bowler Akash Deep was included in their team by Kolkata Knight Riders for his base price of Rs 1 crore. Akash Deep has shown his ability at the domestic and international level, so this deal can prove beneficial for KKR.

IPL 2026: What happened regarding Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Josh English in the IPL 2026 auction surprised everyone. After being released by Punjab Kings, it was believed that English would be able to play only a few matches due to marriage and honeymoon. However, on the day of the auction, there was tremendous bidding between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants and finally Lucknow bought him for Rs 8.6 crore. This huge amount changed the entire picture regarding the availability of English.

Decision on marriage and honeymoon may change

According to reports, Josh English is going to get married on April 18 and the plan was to have a honeymoon after that. However, now there is a possibility that he may postpone the honeymoon. Sources say that English may come to India at the beginning of the IPL season, then go back for a short time for the wedding and after that will join the team again. After such a big bid, his move can be a news of relief for both the franchise and the fans.

Team management was already ready

According to the report of Cricbuzz, Lucknow Super Giants coach Justin Langer and director Tom Moody were better aware of English’s condition. At the same time, Sunrisers Hyderabad coach Daniel Vettori and captain Pat Cummins also seemed confident about his availability. SRH bowling coach Varun Aaron said that after the auction, players often rethink their personal decisions and the same can happen with English.

Punjab Kings’ displeasure

Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia had already expressed his displeasure over this entire matter. He said that English informed about his unavailability just 45 minutes before the retention deadline, which was not professional attitude at all. The team wanted to retain him, but due to last-minute notice they had to release him.

LSG can get big benefit

If Josh English really decides to play the entire season in IPL 2026, then it will be great news for Lucknow Super Giants. His aggressive batting and wicket-keeping skills can give the team a strong lead in the tournament.

The auction for the Indian Premier League 2026 was held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday. CSK bought Rahul Chahar and Karthik Sharma in the auction. All-rounder Deepak Chahar has congratulated Rahul and Karthik on becoming a part of the CSK family.

In a video posted on CSK’s official

He said, “The biggest problem for our family is who to support now. It is good for both of us that we are playing for the best franchise. Ask any player, he wants to be a part of CSK or MI.”

Deepak said, “My father is the happiest at this time. Along with both his sons, a student, Karthik Sharma, has also become a part of CSK.”

The MI all-rounder said, “I want to wish Rahul and Karthik all the best that they are going to a good franchise. The environment there is very good. I have been there for a long time. I remember everything, but will meet on the field, in a different style.”

Deepak Chahar has been a part of CSK from 2018 to 2024. During this period he took 76 wickets in 76 matches. Deepak was released by CSK in 2025. MI bought him in the auction.

Rahul Chahar is the brother of Deepak Chahar. Rahul has played for Rising Pune Supergiants, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Rahul is a leg spinner and has taken 75 wickets in total 79 matches of IPL. In the IPL 2026 auction, Rahul Chahar, who had a base price of Rs 1 crore, was bought by CSK for Rs 5.20 crore.

Whereas wicketkeeper batsman Karthik Sharma, who had a base price of Rs 30 lakh, was bought by CSK for a record Rs 14.20 crore. Karthik is jointly the most expensive uncapped player in IPL history. Along with Karthik, CSK also bought Prashant Veer for Rs 14.20 crore.

Prashant Veer and Karthik Sharma were not even born at the time when Mahendra Singh Dhoni had become a star. When ‘Captain Cool’ was writing a new success story in the initial years of the Indian Premier League, both these cricketers were children.

Nineteen-year-old wicketkeeper batsman Karthik and 20-year-old left-arm spin all-rounder Veer would never have imagined that Chennai Super Kings would spend Rs 14 crore 20 lakh on them and they would share the dressing room with Dhoni.

Only time will tell whether Karthik will get a chance to play with Dhoni and Sanju Samson or whether Veer will be made an alternative to Ravindra Jadeja, but Chennai Super Kings have taken the decision looking towards the future.

The Chennai team, which has always emphasized on experience, has rarely invested in young players who have not been tried, but that was Dhoni’s era and if sources are to be believed, the team management is preparing the team according to the new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Those who know IPL teams closely know that AR Srikkanth, who spent fifteen years with Kolkata Knight Riders, has played an important role in identifying local and global talent.

Now he is the head of talent and player procurement of Chennai team. If they have selected Veer and Karthik, who have a total experience of 21 matches of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, then there must be something between them.

joy

Prithvi Shaw had posted a heartbreak emoticon on his Instagram story soon after going unsold twice in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction, but when Delhi Capitals added him for Rs 75 lakh, the 26-year-old player had to delete his Insta story.

The base price of Prithvi Shaw was Rs 75 lakh. His name appeared in the accelerated auction of unsold players. However, once again during the day no one bought them. After this Shaw posted a story on his Instagram account, in which he wrote ‘It’s OK’. Along with this, Shaw also added a heartbreak emoji.

After some time, his name came up for the third time at the end of the auction. Eventually, Delhi Capitals bought him. Shaw deleted his previous post within six minutes and instead posted a picture of himself taking a selfie with Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel.

Prithvi Shaw titled this new post with a heart emoji – “Returning to my family.”

26-year-old Prithvi Shaw has played 5 Test and 6 ODI matches for India since making his debut against West Indies in October 2018. On July 25, 2021, he played a T20 match for India, after which he did not get a chance in any international match again.

Prithvi Shaw has played IPL only for Delhi Capitals since 2018. He scored 1,892 runs in 79 matches at an average of 23.94. During this period, 14 half-centuries came from Shaw’s bat.

This right-handed batsman scored 479 runs in IPL 2021 at an average of 31.93, which also included 4 half-centuries.

Prithvi Shaw scored 339 runs for India in 5 Test matches with 1 century and 2 half-centuries, while he scored 189 runs in 6 ODI matches. Shaw could not open his account in the only T20 match of his career.

The IPL 2026 auction has proved to be unpredictable, with Cameron Green becoming the most expensive foreign player in auction history, while on the other hand, many big-name stars have remained unsold. Apart from Indian batsman Prithvi Shaw, many international stars have also gone unsold in the auction. Australia’s legendary player Steve Smith has also not found any buyer, while no one has bought Jonny Bairstow either.

Many famous Indian players were also included in the list of players who remained unsold. No one bought all-rounder Vijay Shankar, while no one bought spin bowler Karn Sharma, who was a part of the four-time IPL winning team.

On the other hand, the names of Sarfaraz Khan and Prithvi Shaw were present in the set first, yet they could not find any buyer. The base price of both the Indian batsmen was Rs 75 lakh. Devon Conway and England’s legendary batsman Jonny Bairstow also did not find any buyer.
