These were the reasons due to which BCCI had to issue strict advisories and now IPL teams are trying to follow them without compromising on privacy. The board’s anti-corruption unit warned about unauthorized guests in the hotel rooms of players, support staff and team officials and also cautioned that it could be a ‘honey trap’.

As a result, BCCI issued an advisory, in which it has been made mandatory for the players to inform the security authorities about their activities along with the ban on guests. The major cases of its violation involve players’ proximity to influencers, whose services are taken for short periods for the purpose of creating social media content for the participating teams.

In one incident, one of the team’s younger players asked a new member of the content team to help him create reels, take videos and photos to post on his personal social media accounts.

It is not new for a player to take outside help to create neo-media content but in this particular case, the blogger used some videos and pictures on his personal account to get ‘traction’.

The shoot was done within the boundaries, featuring scenes of team practice and other on-field activities. Later, there are also scenes from the player’s hotel room.

A franchise official told PTI, we have received instructions from BCCI about the new rules and measures are being taken to comply with them. New players are very active on social media and this is a modern trend which has to be accepted, but within the limits set by BCCI. It is not possible to monitor every activity of people. This is an issue. We are making players and content teams aware of BCCI rules and the consequences of breaking them.

He further said, we are also reducing the number of content team members. Especially those who are appointed for two-three months during the IPL season. Senior players know about the rules and how to follow them. Cricketers playing IPL for the first time are not aware of the seriousness of the situation. They want likes and comments on social media by following stars. Therefore they have to be made aware.

The board’s concerns over unauthorized guests in the rooms of players and support staff deepened when recently another player was found hosting a few people in his room, often late at night. BCCI’s ACU official summoned the team manager, but the reply was not satisfactory. The manager tried to defend the player by citing his seniority in the team.

A former official who has worked as a team manager in IPL for a long time said, I am not surprised. Many times players take advantage of their height and ignore the rules. I once told a player to meet his friends in the lobby restaurant and not in his room. On this he said, don’t worry, I will tell the board officials if they ask.

In another incident, a player did not respond to the call of the team official, who knocked on the door of his room to give information. The player came to the hotel late at night with his friends, but this matter was suppressed because the player is considered close to the team owners.

Shubman Gill Gave Statement Regarding The Impact Player Rule: Indian Premier League 2026 is starting from 28th March. Earlier, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has raised questions regarding the ‘Impact Player’ rule implemented by BCCI in IPL. He said that this reduces the importance of skill and challenge in the game. Earlier, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and recently Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel have also expressed objection to this rule. In the IPL captains’ meeting held in Mumbai on Wednesday, March 25, most of the captains including Gill demanded the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to review this rule.

What did Shubman Gill say on the ‘Impact Player’ rule?

The ‘Impact Player’ rule was implemented by BCCI in the year 2023 and it has been extended till at least the year 2027. Regarding this rule, Shubman Gill said, ‘According to me there should not be an ‘impact player’. Cricket is generally a game of 11 players. Adding an extra batsman or bowler takes away the real challenge and the importance of the player’s skill.

He further said, ‘There is a special skill in the game. If some of your main batsmen get out early, the team needs strategy and skill to score well, but with this one extra player the game has become one-sided and the challenge has also reduced. For me, chasing 180 or 160 runs on a challenging pitch is more exciting than chasing 220 runs on an easy pitch.

BCCI can take a decision on this rule after 2027

BCCI can take the final decision on ‘Impact Player’ rule only after the year 2027. Gill said, ‘This rule will remain in force till the year 2027. We had discussed this in the captains’ meeting. I understand that it makes the game a little more entertaining, but I don’t like it, but the decision will be taken by BCCI.

Just before IPL 2026, BCCI has implemented some new and strict rules for players and teams. Ban has also been imposed on cricketers’ family members and their practice. A new rule has also come regarding purple and orange caps, while players will no longer be able to wear sleeveless jerseys in the post match presentation. List of all the new rules of IPL 2026:

-Open net practice has been banned. Each team will be given 2 nets.

-If one team finishes practice early, the other team will not be able to use its nets.

-On the day of practice, it will be mandatory for the players to come to the field in the team bus.

-Family members are not allowed to accompany the players to the dressing room during practice. Only authorized staff will be able to enter the dressing room.

-If family members wish, they can come to the ground in a separate vehicle and sit in the hospitality area.

-Players have been asked not to hit the ball towards the LED boards. Sitting in front of LED boards will also be prohibited.

-Any player who has an orange cap or purple cap, it will be mandatory for him to wear the cap for at least the first 2 overs.

-Ban on floppy cap and sleeveless jersey and slippers in post match presentation.

-No fitness test will be conducted on the day of the match at the Main Square.

-For breaking the rules, first a warning will be given, then there will be a provision for punishment.

-New protocol regarding match day. There should be only 12 support staff including doctors and each staff member will have to bring an accreditation card.

-If any player wants to change his jersey number, he will have to inform BCCI 24 hours in advance.
