Allahabad University, established on 23 September 1887, is the oldest university in Uttar Pradesh. It is also called Oxford of the East because of its higher education and influential students. Many IAS and IPS officers have been prepared from here, due to which it is also called the factory to make IAS and IPS.

This university previously worked as a branch of the University of Kolkata. But later it became the fourth oldest in India and the first university in Uttar Pradesh. Before the establishment of Allahabad University, there were only four universities in the country. Kolkata, Madras, Bombay and Punjab. After the 1857 soldier rebellion, the British had made Allahabad their administrative capital. After this, this university should get more resources. During British rule, this university was given better education in subjects like Hindi literature, history and philosophy.
