Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Saturday (October 11) expressed grief over the alleged suicide of senior IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, terming it a very unfortunate incident. He assured the family of the deceased IPS of strict action and justice.

CM Nayab Singh Saini said, “No matter how influential the criminal is, he will not be spared. If injustice has been done to the family, our government will work to provide justice.”

According to HT report, while speaking at the BJP state executive meeting in Panchkula, CM Saini paid tribute to the late IPS officer by observing two minutes of silence. During this, the CM also said, “This matter will be thoroughly investigated and if anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken against him.”

IPS Puran Kumar committed suicide on 7 October

Y Puran Kumar was a 2001 batch IPS officer. He was found dead in his residence in Sector-11, Chandigarh on October 7 and bullet marks were found on his body. He had reportedly committed suicide by shooting himself with a service revolver.

Case registered against many officers including DGP

Chandigarh Police on Thursday (October 09) registered an FIR against Haryana DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor and 10 others on charges of instigating IPS officer Y Puran Kumar to commit suicide. This came after Kumar’s wife, IAS Amneet P Kumar, and her family had demanded registration of an FIR into the death of the IPS officer.

In this case, the police also found an 8-page suicide note. In his last note, he had named several senior officials, accusing them of caste-based discrimination and harassment.

FIR has been registered in IPS Y Puran suicide case. A case of abetment to suicide has been registered. His IAS wife Amneet P Kumar had filed a complaint. Chandigarh Police said that a case has been registered against the people whose names were in the ‘final note’ of IPS. A case has also been registered under SC-ST Atrocities Act.

Before committing suicide, he was posted in the Police Training College. His wife Amneet P Kumar is an IAS officer of Haryana cadre. At the time of the incident, she was on a Japan tour with CM Nayab Singh Saini. Police had also recovered a suicide note from the incident site.

Although the Chandigarh Police has not disclosed the names at present, but according to sources, the matter is related to the corruption case of Rohtak, which was started by Puran Kumar himself.

1. FIR of Rohtak case and root of controversy

The root of the case is said to be related to a corruption case registered in Rohtak’s IG office. On September 6, an FIR was registered by the Rohtak police, in which the role of some senior officers was questioned. At that time Y Puran Kumar was posted as IG Rohtak Range.

It is being told that the pressure on Puran Kumar had increased after the same investigation. In the suicide note, he wrote that my career is being ruined by making false allegations against me.

2. The corpse was found in the basement of the house in Chandigarh

On Monday (October 6) at around 1:30 pm, Chandigarh Police received information of suicide from residence number 116 in Sector 11. When the police reached the spot, Puran Kumar’s body was found in a room in the basement of the house.

He was shot in the head, and a weapon was recovered from the spot. Chandigarh police said that a ‘will’, a ‘final note’ and several other documents have been seized from the scene.

Forensic team (CFSL) carried out videography and photography of the entire house, as well as electronic devices and weapons.

3. Wife IAS officer, at that time was on a foreign tour

Amneet P. Kumar, wife of IPS Puran Kumar, is an IAS officer of Haryana cadre. She was currently on a tour of Japan with Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini. She was not present at home at the time of the incident.

According to the police, the post -mortem will be done only after his wife returns. A special board of doctors will do post -mortem so that there is no doubt.

4. Officers with long experience, were posted in police training college

Y Puran Kumar was a 2001 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. He was currently posted in the Police Training College. Earlier, he had held IG Rohtak Range, SP and many other important positions.

According to colleagues, Puran Kumar was considered an officer with an honest and strict image. He often opposed wrong things in the department, which led to differences with many of his senior officers.

5. Police investigation continues, investigation will be done from many aspects

Chandigarh Police has formed a special team to investigate the matter. The team is investigating suicide note, digital records, call details and CCTV footage. The Haryana government has also sought a report on the entire matter.
