Haryana Police has got a new chief. The state government has appointed 1992 batch IPS officer Ajay Singhal as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of Haryana. Ajay Singhal was till now fulfilling his responsibilities as the head of Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau. His name was announced on the same day as that of current DGP O.P. Singh retired after 33 years of service.

According to the government order, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department Sumita Mishra issued a notification regarding the appointment of the new DGP. Earlier on December 16, the state government had requested the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to send a panel of eligible officers for the post of DGP. After this, a UPSC meeting was held on 31 December, in which the list of eligible officers was prepared. Ajay Singhal’s name was approved from this panel.

UPSC panel and popular names

One name in the panel sent by UPSC was that of Shatrujit Singh Kapoor, who is considered to be the most senior officer in this list. However, after an FIR was registered against him in a case, he was sent on leave. Despite this, his name being included in the panel remained a topic of discussion. But the state government clearly gave priority to Ajay Singhal and entrusted him with the responsibility of the post of DGP.

Appointment under the instructions of the Supreme Court

The appointment of DGP in Haryana has been done as per the instructions of the Supreme Court in ‘Prakash Singh Case’. Under these instructions, UPSC first prepares a panel of eligible officers and then the state government selects a name from that panel. Following this entire process, Ajay Singhal has been made the new DGP.

Who is Ajay Singhal?

57-year-old Ajay Singhal is a 1992 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. Most of his service period was spent in Haryana. He originally comes from Rewari district of Haryana. Talking about education, Ajay Singhal is a B.Tech degree holder.

Ajay Singhal is known as a strict and disciplined officer in Haryana Police. He has worked in many sensitive areas of the state, where the law and order situation was always challenging. His experience in matters like riots, election duty and crime control is considered very strong.

In his police career of more than three decades, Ajay Singhal’s name has remained almost away from controversies. He has worked in important departments like Intelligence, Crime Investigation, Crime against Women, Human Rights, Railway Police and Vigilance. He has also held important responsibilities in the State Crime Branch and Anti Corruption Bureau.

Yogi government has given gifts to many IPS officers on New Year in UP. Officers have received promotion from the CM. In this many officers have become IG, DIG and many ADGs. An order for promotion of IPS officers was issued by the government. IPS officer of 2001 batch has been promoted from IG to ADG.

In this, Tarun Gaba, Ashutosh Kumar and Praveen Kumar have been made ADG. 2008 batch IPS Kiran S Anand, Anand Kulkarni, N Kolanchi, Amit Verma, Rajiv Malhotra and Dr Akhilesh Nigam have been made IG.

3 officers got the post of Additional Director General of Police

In the order, three IPS officers have been given the post of Additional Director General of Police. Among these IPS officers, Tarun Gaba, Anurag Kumar and Praveen Kumar (IPS Batch-2001) have been promoted to the post of Additional Director General of Police (Pay Matrix Level-15, ₹ 1,82,200 to ₹ 2,24,100) with effect from January 1, 2026 or the date of joining, whichever is later.

The Governor has gladly given approval in this regard. It has been said in the order that deployment orders of the concerned officers will be issued separately. The order has been issued by Principal Secretary Sanjay Prasad on the orders of the Governor.

Due to the decision of Yogi government, this gift has been given to the officials on New Year. Due to this administrative reshuffle, speculations are being made that the government may also make a major reshuffle regarding IAS officers.

Indian Police Service officer Sadanand Date will now be the Director General of Maharashtra Police i.e. DGP. He will assume office on January 3. Till now the head of the state police was Rashmi Shukla.

An official statement said – The tenure of Director General of Police (DGP), Maharashtra State Rashmi Shukla, Indian Police Service, on the post of ‘Director General of Police, Maharashtra State’ is ending on 03 January 2026.

The Haryana government has sent state Director General of Police (DGP) Shatrujit Kapoor on leave amid the opposition’s attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party government over the alleged suicide of former Indian Police Service officer Y Puran Kumar and demands from Kumar’s family for action against the accused officers. After this, the charge of DGP of Haryana was handed over to Om Prakash Singh. OP Singh has got the additional charge of Haryana DGP.

On the other hand, notices have also been sent to Puran’s wife and Indian Administrative Service officer Amneet P Kumar’s wife. Amneet P Kumar has written in his complaint to the police that he has handed over the laptop to the police. But according to Chandigarh Police officials, the laptop has not been handed over to the police yet, hence notice has been given to the family to handover the laptop. According to Chandigarh Police, the family in their complaint has talked about handing over the laptop but it has not been given yet.

IPS Y Puran suicide case: Haryana DGP sent on leave before Rahul Gandhi’s arrival

Kumar, a 2001 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, had allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself at his residence in Sector-11, Chandigarh on October 7. He had left an eight-page ‘final note’, in which eight senior IPS officers, including Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor and former Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Narendra Bijarania, have been accused of ‘caste discrimination, targeted mental harassment, public humiliation and torture’. Bijarania was transferred on Saturday.

Kumar’s post-mortem and last rites have not been done yet, because his family has refused to give consent for it until their demands are met. Haryana government and Chandigarh officials are trying to pacify Kumar’s wife.

Police has registered an FIR in the case of suicide of Indian Police Service officer Y Puran. However, now there has been a new twist in this matter. Puran’s wife and Indian Administrative Service officer Amneet P Kumar has written a letter to the Chandigarh Police officer making three serious allegations.

IAS Amneet Kumar has raised questions on the FIR lodged by Chandigarh Police at the suicide site of IPS Y Puran Kumar. In the letter given to SSP Chandigarh, he has written that the names of the accused have not been mentioned in column number seven in the FIR, whereas in his complaint he has written the names of DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarania, which is the main reason for the suicide. They allege that the sections of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act have also not been implemented correctly. He also wrote that the copy of Puran Kumar’s final note which was found in his pocket and which was in his laptop has not been given to him yet so that he can compare it with the final note in the FIR.

FIR against DGP Shatrujit Kapoor in IPS Y Pooran suicide case, will Director General of Police go on leave?

These three things were written in the letter

He has written in the letter that as per my complaint, the names of the accused (1) Shatrujeet Kapoor (2) Narendra Bijarnia have not been mentioned in the FIR, which led to his suicide. As per the prescribed FIR document format, all the accused should be listed under column number 7. Therefore, it is requested that the FIR be amended so that the names of all the accused are accurately reflected in the appropriate section.

IAS Amneet wrote that the section mentioned in the FIR under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been weakened. The applicable section applicable in this case is the amended section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The sections should be added accordingly to implement the correct legal provisions.

At the end of the letter, Amneet wrote that it is also requested that the ‘last note’ dated 7/10/2025 recovered from the pocket of the deceased (Late Shri Y. Puran Kumar IPS) and another note recovered from his laptop bag have not been made available to me till date. I have not received any copy of the said ‘final note’ which can be matched with the version mentioned in the FIR. I request that certified copies of both the ‘Final Notes’ be made available to me immediately for records and verification.

An FIR has also been registered against Haryana Director General (DGP) Shatrujit Kapoor in the suicide case of Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Y Puran. This FIR has been filed on the complaint of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and Puran’s wife Amneet. The FIR names 13 officers and former officers.

After the FIR is registered against the DGP of Haryana Police, it is believed that he may be sent on leave. Besides, Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarania can also be removed. The FIR lodged at Sector 11 police station, Chandigarh, is based on the written complaint of the IAS wife and Puran’s final note.

Names of these 13 officers and former officers in the FIR

Apart from Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor, Rohjat Superintendent of Police IPS Narendra Bijarania, former Haryana DGP Manoj Yadav, former IAS Rajeev Arora (former ACS Home), former Chief Secretary TVSN Prasad, former DGP PK Aggarwal, IAS officer Dr. M Ravi Kiran, IAS officer IG Pankaj Nain, ADGP Amitabh Dhillon, ADGP Sanjay Kumar, IAS Kala, apart from Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor, are included in the preliminary list. An FIR has been registered against Ramachandran, IPS Sandeep Khirwar and IPS Sibash Kaviraj.

In the FIR of this case, the words ‘as per the suicide note’ were written among the accused. The names of all IAS and IPS officers are mentioned in the text of the FIR.

All of them have been accused of instigating suicide. Late Puran’s wife Amneet alleges that DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and SP Bijarania forced her to commit suicide. The officers publicly harassed and humiliated the husband. The conspiracy to implicate him in a false bribery case was hatched on the instructions of the DGP. Their demand is that the DGP and SP should be arrested, otherwise the evidence will be destroyed.

IAS Amneet P Kumar, wife of IPS Y Puran Kumar, lodged a complaint with the Chandigarh Police. Demanded to register a case against Haryana DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijaraniyan for abetment of suicide and under the SC-ST Prevention of Atrocities Act. He gave his complaint in four pages.

Husband had to endure caste discrimination in the department – complaint

In the complaint, she has written that her husband had told how a conspiracy was being hatched to implicate her in a false case in Rohtak. She has also written that her husband had to endure caste discrimination in the department. Along with this, IAS Amneet P Kumar has also mentioned an eight-page suicide note in his complaint.

Demand for immediate arrest of DGP and SP

IAS Amneet also wrote that after returning from Japan, when she checked the laptop at home, her husband’s typed suicide note was saved in it. The hard copy of the suicide note was also found by the CFSL team from the spot. Amneet has also given a copy of the suicide note found from the laptop to the Chandigarh Police along with the complaint. There has also been a demand for immediate arrest of DGP and SP.

IPS officer Y Puran Kumar lived with his IAS wife and daughter in house number 116 in Chandigarh Sector-11. He was a 2001 batch IPS officer. Before committing suicide, he was posted in the Police Training College. His wife Amneet P Kumar is an IAS officer of Haryana cadre. At the time of the incident, she was on a Japan tour with CM Nayab Singh Saini. Police had also recovered a suicide note from the incident site.

The suicide of senior IPS officer of Haryana cadre Y Puran Kumar has stirred up the entire police department. An 8 -page suicide note has been found from an officer who shot at his house in Chandigarh, in which he has made serious allegations against 10 senior police officers of Haryana. These are said to be former DGP, current DGP, ADGP and SP level officers.

Let’s know 5 big things about this whole matter-

The deceased IPS Y Puran Kumar wrote in his suicide note that he was constantly being mentally tortured by many senior officials. In the note, he clearly said that these officers conspired to ruin his professional career.

In the suicide note, the names of some of those 10 officers are said to be former DGP, current DGP and ADGP level. Although the Chandigarh Police has not disclosed the names at present, but according to sources, the matter is related to the corruption case of Rohtak, which was started by Puran Kumar himself.

1. FIR of Rohtak case and root of controversy

The root of the case is said to be related to a corruption case registered in Rohtak’s IG office. On September 6, an FIR was registered by the Rohtak police, in which the role of some senior officers was questioned. At that time Y Puran Kumar was posted as IG Rohtak Range.

It is being told that the pressure on Puran Kumar had increased after the same investigation. In the suicide note, he wrote that my career is being ruined by making false allegations against me.

2. The corpse was found in the basement of the house in Chandigarh

On Monday (October 6) at around 1:30 pm, Chandigarh Police received information of suicide from residence number 116 in Sector 11. When the police reached the spot, Puran Kumar’s body was found in a room in the basement of the house.

He was shot in the head, and a weapon was recovered from the spot. Chandigarh police said that a ‘will’, a ‘final note’ and several other documents have been seized from the scene.

Forensic team (CFSL) carried out videography and photography of the entire house, as well as electronic devices and weapons.

3. Wife IAS officer, at that time was on a foreign tour

Amneet P. Kumar, wife of IPS Puran Kumar, is an IAS officer of Haryana cadre. She was currently on a tour of Japan with Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini. She was not present at home at the time of the incident.

According to the police, the post -mortem will be done only after his wife returns. A special board of doctors will do post -mortem so that there is no doubt.

4. Officers with long experience, were posted in police training college

Y Puran Kumar was a 2001 batch IPS officer of Haryana cadre. He was currently posted in the Police Training College. Earlier, he had held IG Rohtak Range, SP and many other important positions.

According to colleagues, Puran Kumar was considered an officer with an honest and strict image. He often opposed wrong things in the department, which led to differences with many of his senior officers.

5. Police investigation continues, investigation will be done from many aspects

Chandigarh Police has formed a special team to investigate the matter. The team is investigating suicide note, digital records, call details and CCTV footage. The Haryana government has also sought a report on the entire matter.

The video of the dispute between Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and IPS Anjana Krishna has taken political color. Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar clarified on Friday (5 September). He said that my focus has gone to some videos which are circulating in Solapur about the conversation with my police officers. I want to clarify that my purpose was not to interfere in the legal process, but to ensure that the situation remained calm and did not move forward.

Ajit Pawar wrote on X, “I have great respect for our police force and its officers, especially women officers who serve with courage and excellence. For me the rule of law is paramount. ”

He said, “I am firmly committed to transparent rule and also to ensure that every illegal activity including sand mining is strictly settled according to the law.”

What is the matter between Ajit Pawar and IPS officer?

In the video, Ajit Pawar talks to Anjana Krishna, the deputy mandalist police officer of Karmala of Solapur. Krishna does not recognize his voice. Subsequently, Ajit Pawar makes video calls from NCP worker’s phone and asks them to stop action against illegal mining of Murram soil in strict words.

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut has targeted Ajit Pawar on this dispute. He said that “he is so disciplined, right?” Where is your discipline? He is scolding them (IPS officer) to protect the thieves of their party (NCP). ”

Sanjay Raut said, “Illegal excavation of Muram soil is harming the government treasury. As it has become public, Ajit Pawar has no right to remain in the government. Even before, many (leaders) had to resign on moral grounds due to such incidents. ”
