He said that building a mosque in the name of Babar is neither politically correct nor good for the society. The political importance of this statement has increased further because before the Bengal elections, the politics of temple-mosque seems to be active again.

Iqbal Ansari reminded that on 9 November 2019, the Supreme Court had given the final verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi vs Babri Masjid dispute. The court allotted 5 acres of land to the Muslims and the Muslim community across the country respected the court’s order. He says that today there is neither any tension nor any legal fight on this issue, hence raising it again during election time seems to be just a political motive.

Politics of temple-mosque for elections in Bengal- Ansari

Attacking TMC leaders, Ansari said that elections have not started in Bengal yet, but the issue of temple-mosque is being increasingly raised in politics. He alleges that TMC leaders are bringing up Babar’s name for electoral gains, whereas it has no connection with the current situation.

He said, “We consider this to be purely political. We believe that a mosque should not be built in the name of Babar because Babar was not a messiah.” In a statement given to ANI, Ansari said that Babar did not do any such social work in India. No hospital, no school, no welfare work for any community. Therefore, it would not be appropriate to build a mosque in his name.

While giving a statement, Iqbal Ansari said that Babar neither did any work for the Hindus nor for the welfare of Muslims. Therefore, building a mosque in his name is neither religiously nor socially appropriate. He clearly said, “No mosque should be built in the name of Babar, this is our declaration.”

West Bengal’s ruling party TMC MLA Humayun Kabir has claimed that the foundation stone of Babri Masjid will be laid in Beldanga, Murshidabad on 6 December. Meanwhile, on this matter, former Babri Masjid litigant Iqbal Ansari said that this issue is related to Ayodhya and when the Supreme Court gave its decision, Muslims across the country respected it.

On TMC MLA Humayun Kabir’s statement on Babri Masjid, Jagatguru Paramhans Acharya said, “MLA’s statement is an anti-national activity. The Supreme Court has resolved the Ayodhya dispute, Ram temple has been built and the consecration of Ram Lalla has been completed. On November 25, 2025, PM Narendra Modi will hoist the saffron flag and Mamata Banerjee has clearly encouraged such statements. I am giving a reward of Rs 1 crore to the one who brings the head of the MLA.” I declare to give.”

Along with this, on TMC MLA Humayun Kabir’s statement on Babri Masjid, BJP leader and Ram Mandir movement member Ram Vilas Vedanti said, “On December 6, no power in the world can now build another Babri Masjid anywhere in India. PM Modi has given the slogan for communal harmony, national unity and peace. Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas, on the basis of that thinking, we have taken a collective pledge to keep every section of the society together.”
