In view of the critical situation in Iran, India has completed preparations to evacuate its citizens from there. Two planes carrying Indians from Iran are going to land in New Delhi on Friday (January 16, 2026). The first flight is of Mahan Air at 12:15 pm and the second flight is of Al Arabiya at 2:40 am. Although it has been called a regular commercial flight. This is the first regular flight to India after the violence and worsening of the situation in Iran.

The US has not ruled out the possibility of any military action against Iran in response to Tehran’s crackdown on nationwide protests. India on Wednesday urged all its citizens living in Iran to leave the country by available means and not to travel there.

Indian Embassy had issued advisory

About 10,000 Indians, including students, are currently living in Iran. On January 14, the Indian Embassy in Tehran urged all Indian citizens, including students, pilgrims, businessmen and tourists, to leave Iran through available means of transport. The embassy had also urged all Indian citizens and persons of Indian origin to exercise caution, stay away from areas of protests and remain in touch with the embassy.

America imposed fresh sanctions on Iran

America has imposed fresh sanctions on Iran on Thursday (January 15, 2026). According to the US Treasury Department, the Trump administration has imposed fresh sanctions on Iranian officials as well as Iranian shipping, trading and energy companies accused of suppressing the protests.

The 18 officials close to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei against whom America has taken action have been accused of strictness and violence against the protesters. The Trump administration accused these officials of being involved in secretly repatriating oil and petrochemical earnings and money laundering. US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said that we stand firmly with the Iranian people demanding freedom and justice.
