The situation is continuously worsening amid the fierce protests that have been going on in Iran since December 28. According to human rights activists, more than 2,000 people have died so far, while some reports put the figure at more than 2,500. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump gave a stern warning to the Iranian government, saying that the killing of protesters will not be tolerated and help is on the way.

Trump has appealed to the people of Iran to continue protesting, while the Iranian government has partially lifted some restrictions, allowing people to make phone calls abroad after several days. However, internet and SMS services are still down, due to which connectivity inside and outside the country remains extremely limited.

Death toll in Iran reaches 2,571

According to the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), the death toll in the ongoing protests in Iran has increased to 2,571. At the same time, Iranian state TV also admitted that the country has suffered a loss. Ahmed Mousavi, head of Iran’s Martyrs Foundation, was quoted as saying that the country has suffered huge losses due to armed and terrorist groups. However, international human rights organizations allege that most of the deaths occurred due to the actions of security forces.

US President Donald Trump’s message to Iranians

Donald Trump issued a sharp message on his social media platform Truth Social, calling on Iranians to intensify protests. He wrote that the Iranian people should continue to protest, occupy their institutions. Protect the names of murderers and torturers, they will have to pay a heavy price. Until the killings stop, I have canceled all meetings with Iranian officials. Help is on the way.

Appeal to Iranian government to show humanity

Trump said he is meeting frequently with his national security advisers and is confident that the scale of the killings in Iran is extremely serious. “They are misbehaving very badly,” he said. They should show humanity. This is a very big problem. Trump indicated that if the situation does not improve, America will take action accordingly.

Iran’s counterattack

Iran has accused Trump of spreading political instability, inciting violence and endangering the country’s sovereignty. Iran’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, wrote a letter to the Security Council saying that America and Israel are responsible for the deaths of innocent civilians, especially youth.

Trump’s threat on news of hanging

In an interview with CBS News, Trump warned that the United States would take “very strong action” if Iran hangs protesters. He said, ‘My goal is to win. I like to win.’ In response, Iran alleged that America was looking for an excuse for military intervention.

Europe and Britain take tough stance, ambassador summoned

Many European countries have summoned Iranian ambassadors regarding violence and internet shutdown in Iran. Finland called the internet shutdown a silent repression; Netherlands, France and Germany have called the violence inhumane and unacceptable. Britain and the European Union have announced new sanctions on Iran. EU chief Ursula von der Leyen said that the increasing deaths in Iran are horrifying.

UN appeal: Violence should be stopped immediately

UN human rights chief Volker Turk appealed to Iran to stop violence against peaceful protesters and stop calling them terrorists. He said Iranian citizens have the right to demonstrate peacefully and their grievances should be heard, not suppressed.

Amidst the ongoing protests in Iran, the country’s exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has issued a new emotional message to the Iranian people. Reza Pahlavi released a video message on Sunday (January 11, 2026). He appealed to the people not to step back from the movement and remain on the streets. He said that the voice of the Iranian people is no longer limited to the country only, but is resonating all over the world.

Reza Pahlavi, son of Iran’s last Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, said in his message that the current movement has weakened the repressive system of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. According to him, dissatisfaction is also increasing within the security forces and many soldiers are refusing to obey orders to take action against the protesters. Pahlavi said that now Khamenei is left with only a limited number of violent elements who consider the Iranian people as their enemy. He warned that those who commit atrocities on civilians will have to face consequences.

Know that you are not alone. This month, all over the world, your voice shouts with pride that the pictures are surely counted and widely seen through the television screen. The world today stands beside you on the sidelines of the national revolution and praises your courage. Especially President Trump, as the leader of the world… pic.twitter.com/D3JjErJ7QM

 — Reza Pahlavi (@PahlaviReza) January 11, 2026

Special appeal for protesters

Reza Pahlavi advised people to remain united on the main roads and not to move away from the crowd into narrow streets or side streets, as this could increase the risk of life. He said that the strength of the movement lies in unity and discipline. In his message, Reza Pahlavi openly praised US President Donald Trump. He said that Trump has recognized the courage of the Iranian people and has expressed support in the fight for freedom. Pahlavi claimed that the world community, especially America, is keeping a close eye on the developments happening in Iran.

Internet shut down, death toll increases

Meanwhile, internet blackout continues in Iran, due to which information about the real situation inside the country is reaching outside in limited form. According to international news agency AP, at least 116 people have died so far during the protests and violence.

Government’s strict warning

The Iranian government has taken a tougher stance against the protests. Iran’s Attorney General Mohammad Movahedi Azad has warned that those involved in the demonstration will be considered enemies of God, under which there is a provision of even death penalty. After this statement, human rights organizations at the international level have expressed deep concern.

Economic crisis became the root of protest

The main reason for the protests in Iran is considered to be the serious economic crisis. In December 2025, the inflation rate had reached 42.5 percent. The situation worsened after the American attacks in June, due to which the everyday life of common people has been badly affected. This dissatisfaction has now taken the form of a big mass movement.

A large number of protests are taking place in Iran after the economic crisis that has been going on for the last one month. The appeal of exiled Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi is being considered an important reason behind the sudden protests that broke out in many big cities of the country on Thursday night (January 8, 2026). The situation became so bad that the Iranian government had to shut down internet services in the entire country.

These demonstrations got a new direction when Raza Pahlavi released a video message on the social media platform X and appealed to the people to take to the streets at 8 pm. Within a few hours of the appeal, thousands of people came out, due to which the intensity of the movement suddenly increased. Reza Pahlavi said, ‘The Iranian people have demanded freedom and in response the regime has closed the Internet and all means of communication.’

My fellow countrymen, today, Wednesday January 7th, your presence across Iran was unprecedented.

And this constitutes a declaration of readiness for tomorrow’s plan (the call for Thursday January 8th, at 8 pm).

Of course, reports have reached us that the regime is deeply… https://t.co/JJiTNZ8cxW

 — Reza Pahlavi (@PahlaviReza) January 7, 2026

Who is Reza Pahlavi?

Reza Pahlavi is the son of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran. He was born on 31 October 1960. He was officially declared Crown Prince in 1967. However, after the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the royal family had to leave Iran. Currently he is living in America. He has received education in political science from America and describes himself as a supporter of secular, democratic and human rights Iran.

Why did public anger erupt?

A large number of people took to the streets in Tehran, Mashhad and other major cities on Thursday night. The protesters raised slogans against the religious leadership of Iran. Slogans like ‘Death to the dictator’, ‘End of Islamic Republic’ and ‘Pahlavi will return’ kept echoing till late night. According to experts, there is a deep economic crisis at the root of the movement. At present, the Iranian currency Rial has fallen to a historic low. Inflation and unemployment are at their peak. The economy is in a dilapidated condition due to international sanctions. In these circumstances, the anger of the youth and middle class is now coming out openly.

Government’s response

As the protests intensified, the government shut down internet and landline services. Increased deployment of security forces. There are reports of use of force in many areas. During this period, 42 people have also died. According to human rights organizations, the number of casualties in the repressive action may increase.
