The exact number of oil wells in Iran still remains a mystery. Iran has never publicly shared an official count of its active wells. However, according to various international reports and intelligence data, there are between 3500 and 4000 active oil wells in Iran. In case of war, it is almost impossible for powers like America and Israel to monitor or destroy these thousands of wells. Any modern army can get tired counting such a large number of wells.

Which states have the highest abundance of oil wells?

Iran’s oil reserves are mainly concentrated in its southwestern parts. Khuzestan province can be called the oil capital of Iran, because it has the largest number of wells. Apart from this, oil is also extracted on a large scale in provinces like Bushehr, Ilam and Fars. Iran has also established its presence in the offshore areas of the Persian Gulf. These areas are very sensitive from the point of view of war, because it is from here that Iran’s economy gets its lifeline and America’s eyes are also fixed on these strategic locations.

World’s largest oil and gas fields

Iran not only has oil wells but also some of the largest hydrocarbon fields in the world. According to the discoveries so far, a total of 145 hydrocarbon fields have been found in Iran, which includes 102 oil and 43 gas fields. Names like Ahwaz, Marun, Aghajari and Gachsaran are counted among the largest onshore oil fields in the world. The depth and spread of these fields is so much that despite the stringent sanctions imposed on Iran, it is able to maintain its energy power. This energy potential of Iran is a big challenge for America and its allies.
