US President Donald Trump has said that the US and China agree that Iran should not have nuclear weapons and that it is necessary to keep the Strait of Hormuz open. Iran’s only active nuclear power plant, Bushehr, was attacked with a projectile missile on Tuesday evening (17 March 2026), causing panic in the area. He said that all the member countries of the United Nations should implement an arms embargo on Iran. Also, transfer and trade of missile technology should be banned and financial resources related to it should also be frozen. In response, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia accused America and its allies of creating unnecessary fear and tension over Iran’s alleged plan to make nuclear weapons.

He said that such claims have not been confirmed in the reports of the International Nuclear Agency. China’s representative in the United Nations, Fu Kang, also criticized America. He said that Washington itself is responsible for Iran’s nuclear crisis. According to him, during negotiations and diplomacy, America used force against Iran, which harmed the peace talks efforts.

Former oil minister Bijan Junganeh had also told in 2021 that action is taken against more than 400 petrol pump operators every year. The problem does not stop here only. A secret report published by Iran International in June 2024 stated that the imbalance between fuel production and demand in the country is increasing. To meet this deficiency, Iran is dependent on petrochemical-technical gasoline, which uses chemicals such as methyl turtle-butter ether.
