Iran Stock Market: Iran has reopened its stock market today, May 19, 80 days after the American and Israeli attacks. This is the first time in the recent history of Iran that trading in the stock market was halted for such a long time.

The Tehran Stock Exchange was officially closed on February 28, 2026. On this day, America and Israel had declared war on Iran. During that time, trading was halted in the entire market in an attempt to prevent panic buying of shares, protect millions of small investors and keep the financial markets stable in this period of severe geopolitical and economic uncertainty.

Market will remain open one hour more

Trading in the market will start again gradually. Even before the start of this weekend, trading in shares, equity funds and equity related derivatives will resume. Iran’s stock market is open from 11:00 am to 2:30 pm (IST). However, companies were given additional time to disclose significant financial information about what happened during the war and the time limit for trading was extended by one hour.

Impact on global market

The opening of the stock market in Iran is an indication that the situation in the Middle East is somewhat improving. During this time, investors will keep an eye on whether the supply of crude oil and LNG through the Strait of Hormuz is normal or not. This is the same sea route from where more than 20 percent of the world’s energy is supplied.

Impact on Indian stock market

If crude oil prices remain high even after the stock market opens in Iran, then India’s Current Account Deficit (CAD) will increase. Due to this, there will be a risk of further increase in the prices of petrol and diesel in the country and inflation, which is negative for the stock market. Investors in America and Asian markets are currently in a ‘wait and watch’ situation. Their focus right now is on how much loss Iran has suffered due to the war, what is the financial condition of the companies etc.
